10 In Trouble

Roger took Lola to the restaurant he had mentioned, and she passed the interview without difficulty. He then led her to a room, where he had carefully cleared up everything that might hinder her from walking inside. He held her arm and let her touch all the furniture one by one so she could get used to this place. “It’s a little bit shabby. Let me know if you need anything. I’ll buy it for you.” “Don’t bother. It’s good enough for me to have a place to stay.” Lola immediately shook her head. As she didn’t want to be a burden, she rarely troubled anyone. Doctor Lance had helped her a lot, so she swore to herself that she would repay him one day. The pleasant look in her eyes made Roger feel heart-wrenching. She was so easy to satisfy! It was said Lola’s family was well off and she was the apple of her parents' eye before that accident. But now, she was alert all the time like a frightened bird. “Doctor Lance, I want to tide up the room. Go ahead with your business if you’re busy. I’ll treat you to dinner when I get paid.” Roger nodded with a smile. “Then it’s settled!” When the manager who had been waiting outside saw him walk out, he asked, “Mr. Lance, is Lola satisfied with her room?” “Yup!” Seeing his flattering smile, Roger reminded him with a frown, “Treat her like any other employee. Even if you want to give her some special attention, don't make it too obvious, or she might find out that the restaurant is mine.” “Got it.” Roger nodded and left. As Lola had nothing to do at home during the past three years, she had been playing the piano to kill time and almost become a piano master, so the guests were very pleased with her. What’s more, because she was so pretty that she was a wonderful scene even if she only sat there in a white dress without doing anything, many guests came to eat again just to see her. When she went to the bathroom during her break one day, a waitress stopped her, saying, “The bathroom in the lobby is under repair, so you’ll have to go to the second floor.” “Thank you!” With that, she went upstairs on her crutch. Watching her walk away slowly, the waitress revealed a guilty look. After coming out of the lady’s room, Lola was ready to return to the lobby when a man’s voice suddenly rang out. “Guys, is that the chick who was playing the piano downstairs?’ “I thought she was pretty when I just saw her from a distance. Now I found her even more gorgeous up close! It’s a pity that she’s blind!” another man said. “So what? She can’t see, so all her other senses must be heightened. Then we’ll have more fun!” Hearing his lecherous laughter, Lola seemed to have seen him staring at her with lustful eyes. She unconsciously took a step backward, clutching onto her stick. “Who are you? The second floor is the VIP area. If you interrupt those guests, they won’t go easy on you.” Now that the VIP guests were either powerful or wealthy and no one had ever dared to stir up trouble on this floor, Lola didn’t expect herself to get in trouble here. “Ha! Nobody dares to address himself as a VIP guest in front of us.” Lola grew tense when she heard that. Apparently, these arrogant guys had someone powerful behind them. What should I do to get rid of them? she wondered.
