CHAPTER NINE..

The barouche finally came to a halt in front of a big mansion and i can not help but gasp in amazement. This is one hell of a building, I won’t lie. The extravagance of the building made me almost smile like an i***t, even my house back in England did not look like this.

I glanced over at Adonis and he had no expression on his face, well I can not blame him. He must have seen this extravagance from time to time. Even zeth and Victoria didn’t look fazed at all, I must be the only one coming here for the first time.

After walking to the door, the servants gently bowed to use and ushered us into the room and my eyes almost fell out. The setting of the ball room was so exquisite, the family must be even richer than the king of England put together.

After walking for a few seconds, the four of us came to a halt when a man started walking up to us and I turn my attention back on Adonis and there it was, a frown was sitting on his forehead and he didn’t look happy at all.

“Oh Adonis” the old man had a huge grin on his face as he walked up to us, “i didn’t know you would be able to make it” he added.

“I am a very busy man but what can I do?” A fake smirk appeared on his face and I can’t help but scoff, who is he kidding?,

“If king George has invited me for his daughter’s birthday ball then I have to be here right?”

So this man is a king? Well, he looked like one.

“And who is this beautiful lady beside you?” King George asked as his attention turned on me, he had a bit of anger in his eyes when he saw me which made to to shudder in fear, I don’t think I have done anything to anger him?

“Charlotte” Adonis also turned to me, “this is king George and king George, this is Charlotte, my mate”

The moment he said that, I almost puked, thus he just call me his mate? How can he say this so casually and with a straight face?

“Your mate?” Even the king was surprised, “are you sure?”

“You think he is lying to you?” Zeth asked as he came out of nowhere.

“Not at all” the old man was really baffled, “I was just surprised, none of us were aware that he already had a mate, I thought”

“We are not here to discuss that your majesty” Adonis immediately interrupted him, “I don’t think we should be discussing such matters during your daughter’s birthday, we should do it later”

“ of course” king George gave a weird smile, “we should talk about it later. Why don’t you make yourselves comfortable, Benita will be down in a few”

“Of course”

After he was done talking, he walked away while I turned my attention back on Adonis and zeth. None of them looked like they even wanted to explain what just happened. How could he casually call me his mate like that when we didn’t even discuss anything? Why would I even have a mate as obnoxious as him?

The thought of that made me to roll my eyes to the back of my head, he must be joking.

“Don’t flatter yourself Charlotte” his words filtered into my ears while his head turned to me, “you are nothing to me”

“I…” I opened my mouth to say something and this was when Victoria walked up to him and began to whisper in his ear, they both made to move but Adonis turned his head to my direction for a split second,

“Blend in and enjoy the party Charlotte and you are my mate if anyone asks”

And without bothering about my response, he immediately walked away with her and zeth.

Now I am standing In the middle of a king I don’t even know the name of his kingdom with over a hundred guest with bizarre and weird clothes.

The ladies were dressed in less pronounced clothing like we have in England and the only thing they caught my attention is the beautiful scarfs they had on them, I was so loving it.

While the men were not dressed exceptionally but they still passed the check test.

The only man who was dressed to my taste today was Adonis, how I love his sense of dressing.

My thoughts are interrupted when two men walked up to me and from the look of things, they were English men. Even their eyes betrayed them.

“Hello” the one with blue eyes greeted while his associate just nodded at me.

“Hello” I returned his greeting while maintaining a straight face.

“I saw you walk in with Adonis..” he was still talking and I used this opportunity to study him from head to toe, the only thing that betrayed him was his accent and his eyes, he must badly want to rid himself of anything that looks or sounds English.

“My lady” his friend finally spoke up, “you looked tensed, what is the matter?”

“And what do you care, pray tell?” I asked while folding my hands across my chest, “because it is weird for two English men to walk up to me and try to start a conversation when I know very well that you do not even want to be associated with anything English”

The other one laughed, he must understand what I mean.

“Is that why you are so vexed my lady?” He inquired but instead of answering, I roll my eyes and for a moment, the hairs at the back of my neck stand on edge, it seems like someone was watching me.

“Why don’t we take a walk and talk, I am sure you have a lot of questions”

“Excuse me, Mr…”

“You can call me Austen” he responded, “my name is Austen”

“Look Austen, I think you should go back to where you are coming from. I don’t want to talk to you

and I certainly don’t want to take a walk with you”

“Feisty English girl?” His other friend mocked and i hissed in pain, my leg was hurting badly and some cunts were talking to me.

“I will take my leave now, gentlemen”

As I turned to go, I immediately landed on the hard chest of a certain someone and when I realized who it was, a silent gasp escaped my lips. I was not aware of the fact that he has been standing behind me for a while now.

“Adonis” I hear the men call out to him.

“Sorry” I mouthed and made to move but he halted me, his attention still on the two English men in front of him.

“What is going on here?” Adonis asked, his voice devoid of any emotions.

“We were only talking to her Adonis” Austen replied, “but I don’t think she is in the mood to talk to us, we will just take our leave” with that, they both bow and walk away while the now angry man turned his full attention to me.

“I am sorry” this were the only words that came out of my mouth, I knew he was going to punish me again and I was already dreading it.

“You….” His voice trailed off when a lady walked up to him and threw herself into his embrace, everyone in the banquet hall froze,
