CHAPTER EIGHT..

CHARLOTTE’s POV The rays of the sun made its way into my room and shone directly on my face. Creasing my forehead into a frown, I dragged my body to a sitting position and for a minute, I was trying to make meaning out of my environment. This didn’t look like my room back in England… My thoughts were interrupted when the door pushed open and someone ventured into my room, the moment I saw her, I immediately remembered where I was. I thought i was having a bad nightmare but I was actually here, In the lions den. “Good morning, charlotte” Ariel’s soothing voice filtered into my ears. “A good morning to you, Ariel” I responded to her, “you look very happy this morning” I added, “care to share?” “Of course not” she replied, “I have always been cheerful” “Oh I see” Without further ado, I climbed out of bed and just then, I caught my reflection in the huge mirror in front of me and reality dawned on me, I actually forgot that beast had cut my hair. “Come, I will give you a haircut” Ariel told me but i would here none of that. “Do not bother yourself with that” I told her, “I will send some men to my father, Alice should know what needs to be done” “Alice?” A look of confusion flashed through her face and I can not help but chuckle a little, did they not have any sense of fashion at all? “Alice is my modiste” I finally told her, “she should know what needs to be done with my hair” “This English brat” a voice said from outside the door and threw it open to see Victoria sauntered into the room. “Good morning Victoria” Ariel greeted gently but she ignored her and turned her full attention to me. “Do you think you are in your father’s house?” She hissed at me in anger, “you think you can do as you please?” “I don’t think I have done anything to anger you this morning, lady Victoria” “Oh, I am not your lady and neither am I from your forsaken country, do you hear me?” I can’t even fathom why she carried so much hate in her towards me but one thing is for sure, I was not going to let her hurt me or so I thought. “All I said was to bring my Modeste here, I didn’t…… The words hung in my throat when she grabbed my neck and yanked me closer. “In this place, you don’t get to chose what you want to do, princess” Victoria spat and shoved me off. With that, she turned on her heel and walked out of the room while Ariel turned her attention back to me with a sorry look on her face. “A piece of advise, charlotte. Stop acting like royalty when you are here” I didn’t say anything as I lowered myself on the vanity chair and allow her to trim my hair for me, my mind wandering off to different places and things which I didn’t even want to think about. After Ariel was done, I looked at myself in the mirror and nodded a little. At least, I still looked presentable. “Short hair does suit you” “Yes, I can see that” I managed to answer my I miss my hair, my long wavy hair. The door pushed open again and this time Rose sauntered into the room looking all angry as usual. It seems everyone hated me. “Here” she finally brought my luggage. “Thank you so much rose” She rolled her eyes but didn’t say anything but as her eyes came in contact with Ariel, they both smiled at each other and she ventured out of the room not bothering to spare me another glance. “I left a dress in your closet, you should get ready and come down” “Sure” i nodded and she made her way out of the room while my attention is turned back on the mirror. From all the members of the Ton, I was the one who had the most beautiful hair from amongst them, now it was all short and ugly all because of that danmed man. My eyes drifted off to the necklace on my neck and I couldn’t help but clasp it over my hand for a moment, a lot of secrets were buried in this and it was going to take a lot of time for me to finally adjust to everything. My eighteenth birthday came with a lot of surprises which I was yet to unravel yet but one thing was for sure, my life would never be the same again. With that at the back of my head, I pick up my comb and I started to comb my hair again, even if i would never be able to do it like Alice does. ***** The moment I came out of the room and hallway, my mouth open wide in awe when I saw the fleet of beautiful barouches that was gracing the lawn and Zeth was leaning lazily against one while telling Victoria something. There were the most fine set of barouches i have seen and with the way the men were even dressed, I couldn’t lie, they looked good. Still mesmerized with the sight in front of me, someone whizzed past me and when I saw who it was, I almost lost my breath for a moment. Dressed in a pair of black flay pants and a crisp button up shirt which was neatly tucked away in the pants, Adonis had a pair of corset gracing his lean waist making him look extra tall and handsome, how could a man be this beautiful? The more I look at him, the more I wished things were different. “Charlotte” I heard my name from afar and immediately jolted back to reality. Adonis was standing in front of me and he had a weird look on his face. “Were you talking to me?” I had to ask which made his forehead crease into a frown. “I have decided to take you with me” Adonis announced much to my contestation and the look on Zeth and Victoria’s face changed. “Pardon?” “Get in the barouche” he ordered but before I could even protest, he grabbed my hand and led me towards the vehicle. “Why is she coming with us?” Zeth demanded, “she shouldn’t” “She will be my price tonight” Adonis announced with a creepy smile lingering on his face which made me to cringe in fear. “Where exactly are you taking me?” I had to inquire from him but instead he pulled at my hair and leaned closer to me. “Like I said, you do not get to ask the question” Before I could even say Jack, he lifted me up and flung me into the barouche making me hurt my index finger in the process but I dare not say a word, not when the lady in the barouche behind me was glaring daggers at me. I was dressed in a cream colored dress and luckily it was paired with a hat this time to keep the sun away while. Funny how I was missing the corsets I always hated to wear. As we drove through the streets of the town I didn’t even know, i couldn’t help but marvel at the beauty of the town: most of the men were dressed like Adonis but none of them could compare with him. “I know you dislike me for reasons best known to you Mr Adonis but I think it will be better if you tell me where we are going” I began to say, even if my insides were churning with fear and anxiety, this man beside me was not one to take for granted. “Do you always talk this much?” He hissed in anger. “My mother taught me how to stand up for myself” i managed to reply. “But she didn’t tell you who you were until your eighteenth birthday” he mocked and I gulped, I didn’t want to remember anything that happened that day. To me, it was gruesome enough. “Well for your information we are going for a ball” “A royal ball?” My eyes lit up, finally i could get to be among my kind again. “Don’t get too excited charlotte” the man beside me mocked as a wicked smirk appeared on his lips, “you are only going there on my terms and you will do as I will tell you” “And what exactly will I be doing there, sir?” I asked him again, “you should at least tell me so I won’t act out of the ordinary” He angrily grabbed my neck as he pulled me closer, “I will tell you when I want to tell you, do you hear me?” His eyes were blazing hot and I couldn’t lie, I was a bit scared. “Yes master” I managed to respond and he shoved me off before turning his attention back on the road again.
