Chapter 6, Father Cole:
There was once a time when Cole loved this time of year. If not for the cloud of his missing son, the Celebration of Unification remained one of the better parts of leading the Brotherhood and ruling the city of Abaraka.
Not too long ago, this was the only part of the year the men and women of the Brotherhood could openly ask each other to bond to create a child. Not that the Brotherhood preached celibacy per se, but since the union of a loving couple might replace the union to the temple, such long-lasting relationships were once and still normally discouraged. Technically, though the dogma of the temple didn’t prevent it, few monks of the order found the motivation to be married.
