"What? You must be kidding, Liam!" Duke exclaimed, he shook his head then took another sip of the wine in his glass.
"No, I'm not," Liam said seriously. Along with his deep sigh, his jaws were also raging. He gripped the glass so tightly that if it wasn't hard, it would have broken in his hand.
The detective he paid for couldn't be wrong. His six months of investigating to make sure Mia is the one he's looking for can't go wrong.
"Wait, are you serious, Dude? Mia Salazar? You're not just making a mistake, are you? I mean, I don't know her background but-" Duke just shrugged his shoulders as he looked at his best friend.
"What? Go on, tell me more about her," he coldly continued.
"Well, I think s-she's nice, and.. excellent when it comes to her career. Imagine, she's never absent and has plenty of overtime! She's passionate about her obligations. I also heard that she's a woman with patience so many patients are happy with her." He happily exclaimed. Hoping that Liam will be disappointed and that he will tell him that he made a mistake and that he was not referring to their nurse Mia earlier.
But Liam just grinned at him.
"Of course she is! She needs money." He spoke meaningfully while looking at the ice and wine in his glass.
Duke decided to be silent. Liam seems to be serious.
"But you don't need to become crippled just to get revenge on her. Why suffer when I can fire her whenever I want and make sure she will have this miserable life afterwards," he suggested.
Liam glanced at him again, as was often the case, his eyes were lifeless and he had gotten used to being cold from his once cheerful friend.
"This is not your fight, Duke. It's not about you so stop pressuring yourself. All I want you to do is to offer her a great deal so she will work for me. I need her with me, in my house, in front of my eyes where I can reach her so I can do anything I want. The closer she is, the better."
He swallowed at the fierce look on his friend's face. He has really changed. He became the opposite of young Liam who is his best friend. Sudden tragic events that probably caused so much anger to him.
Duke knew that Liam was talking to no one else but him. He didn't leave the house for three months and kept himself locked in. He can't blame Liam, he suffered a lot. Even him felt very affected but because he was also busy with work, he was able to move on easily. While Liam was consumed by intense sadness and longing.
He shook his head..
"You know, I want to support your decision, Liam. But I'm pretty sure, my conscience will devour me for doing this," He said sadly.
He has never cheated anyone so he has a hard time agreeing to his friend's wishes. What he said earlier about willingness to get rid of Mia, he can easily do that. He will only fire Mia from his hospital but he will give her financial help and recommend her to another hospital. Of course, without Liam's knowledge.
"You don't have to feel guilty, Duke. You should feel happy. You can help give one of your great nurses a better income." Liam said sarcastically.
Now, he's the one who grinned.
"Giving her to my 'beast' friend to treat her like a rag? I don't think so, Liam." He shook his head in response. He purposely made the word beast harder, just in case his friend resisted. But it still had no effect. Arrogance has become natural to him.
"Why? Do you feel sorry for her?" With sadness in his eyes, Liam asked. His only best friend can't disappoint him this time. After all that's happened, this is the first time he asked for someone's help.
Duke shook his head one after another.
"Nope. But, as her superior, I think it's not fair for her. She has nothing to do with everything."
Liam laughed. He couldn't seem to believe what his best friend was saying.
"And you really have the guts to say that in front of me, huh? Tell me, Duke. Did I have anything to do with what happened too? Why am I suffering now? Why do I need to feel like this is the best option for me to feel better? Her family, her, they make me beast, Duke. All of them! there's no fair in this world. Now, it's the right time for them to taste the consequences of their own sin!"
Duke couldn't help but feel pity for his friend. He has told him several times to get tested by an expert but he always refuses. His reason is he can heal himself as long as he is given time and chance. He never thought that Liam's way of healing was to plan a revenge.
He looked at Liam sadly, his jaw was constantly raging. Even if he didn't want to, he still tried to make him calm down. He's the only one he had and he doesn't want to let him down. He just hoped that he would change his mind eventually.
"Okay, I will support your wish, Liam. I promise, you will have Mia before this month ends. But, to make it clear, I do not agree to this. You know, you're more than a friend, Liam. You're my brother and whatever that makes you feel better, I'm just here to support you." he said sincerely. He patted his friend on the arm and decided to leave and go back to his office at the hospital.
He needed to create a fake document that would say that Liam is indeed paralyzed due to illness. As it was wanted, no one else should know it was fake except the two of them. Duke sighed violently. He searched Mia's resume but there was no background to read there. He leaned his head on the swivel chair and thought.
I need to know her background so I will have an idea what I will offer her...
FIRST DAY OF THE MONTH..
Liam carefully estimated the picture on the wall of his room. It was stuck to his dart chart that he had been playing with for a while. After securing the distance, he threw the dart pin he was holding. The pin directly points at the middle of the picture! The sharp object hit the forehead of Mia's photo.
He grinned and slowly approached where the dart board was.
I will make you suffer, Mia. You will suffer from what your family did to mine! he angrily said in his mind, then violently pulled the dart pin and moved away again to throw it.
He did nothing else for three hours but that thing. It is almost impossible to recognize who is in the picture because it is torn already.
He couldn't wait to see the girl in person. He smirked as he remembered what Duke had said last night. That girl really needs money. He will make sure that what he pays for her will be worth it.
He glanced at the wheelchair next to him, the sacrifice he was going to make was not easy but that was the only way he could do to get the revenge he wanted. He doesn't regret the decisions he made, he will get the justice his parents deserve.
He was in that thought when he heard a call from the gate. Because he was on the second floor and his window was open, he heard the woman's voice. He realized it was girls calling. He felt an indescribable excitement. That's right, excitement because he can't wait to make her suffer in his hand!
He immediately turned on the monitor in his room. A 52 inch TV where he can see all the cctv inside and outside the house. His eyes immediately went to the cctv monitor opposite the gate. At what he saw, he shook his head and smiled. Mia tried to reach for the doorbell but it was so high that she couldn't reach it.
Well, let's start with that. Liam was talking seriously to himself. Amused by Mia's little suffering outside his house.
But he immediately frowned a few moments later when he saw Mia talking to the man who just passed by in front of his gate. The thing is, he also helped Mia to ring the doorbell!
