A few months later.
"Happy birthday Misha," I whisper softly as I nudge her awake. Her eyes open to reveal reddish orange eyes. I chuckled as she groaned in frustration.
"I'll tell you my wish now," she hissed. "It's to let me sleep in." She yanked the blanket back over her head. I wrapped the blanket around her and threw her over my shoulder, hearing a squeal leave her lips. "Salvus, I hate you!"
"No you don't." I throw her over the couch and walk to the kitchen. I hear her turn the TV on as I grab her breakfast. "But just in case you do," I said coming back into the living room, "I made you your favorite breakfast. Strawberry and blueberry pancakes, vanilla yogurt, and homemade cinnamon muffins." Her green eyes widen as she looks at her plate, her eyes slowly turning to a solid green.
"Did I ever tell you how great you are?" She asked as I handed her the plate. I chuckled and sat down next to her, starting to get a headache. After awhile my body starts to reject the blood I have since it is not fresh but it's Mischen's birthday today so I refuse to go anywhere. I can always go hunting tomorrow.
"How does it feel being 14?" I hope she doesn't understand my true questions. How does it feel being a 14 year old werewolf who has yet to shift? How does it feel being a 14 year old who has to stay away from society? How does it feel to not truly be a 14 year old?
Mischen stopped going to regular schools the day she blacked out and had the incident. I was too worried about her blacking out in front of other students and possibly hurting them. She doesn't even remember what she did, she doesn't remember drinking my blood, she doesn't remember any of it. For awhile she was mad at me, not understanding why she had to be torn away from her friends.
"No different than 13 except I think you woke me up earlier this time." She looked up from her breakfast to glare at me. "I was not okay with that by the way."
"Ah ha! You said was," I exclaimed. "That means you are now. I win," I gloated. She shoved her now empty plate away and laid back down.
"Whatever, can I go to sleep now?" I nodded but I knew she wouldn't actually go to sleep. She usually can't after she wakes up.
I stared at the TV, not bothering to change the news. "Police have yet to find anything on any suspects in the murders from these past two weeks. The bodies were found near the Elder National Woods, all having similar looks. While the police can not reveal any further information they are requesting that any females in their teenage year with any shade of blonde hair please be careful. If you know anything that can help the case please call the number on the screen. The families and the police are asking that you turn in any information that you may have so these girls can be put to rest." I zoned out, recognizing the area the screen was showing. That wasn't too far from us. I quickly grabbed my laptop which was sitting on the coffee table and looked up the list of victims. All of them had a few things in common. Like they said, they all had some shade of blonde hair but what they didn't say was that they all had green eyes.
I quickly got up and shut the curtains. I need to get her out of here. Why is this happening now? It's her birthday damn it.
"Should I start packing?" I look to Mischen and shake my head.
"No, it can wait. It's your birthday after all." She sighed, tugging on her hair. She got up and hugged me, sparks going throughout my body. She still can't sense them, she can't tell that she's my beloved, even after her vampire side came out. It didn't truly come out though. Nothing has happened after that so right now she is still like an advanced human. She is still breakable. She hasn't shifted yet either so I can't rely on that. I know how upset she was when she realized that she wasn't going to shift halfway through her thirteenth year. She stayed in her room for days. It hurt to see her in that situation and not being able to fix it.
"It's okay Salvus. I saw your computer screen. I'm sorry. It's my fault we have to keep moving and running. Did I do something Salvus? Why are they always after us?" I sighed. I sat her down. She was old enough to know.
I took a deep breath. Where do I even start? “Do you know the story of your parents?” Her eyes widened a bit.
“What does this have to do with my parents?” Her voice was truly curious.
“From that response I am going to assume you don’t. Your parents weren’t normal mates,” I said slowly. Her eyes turned purple, showing just how confused she is right now. “Mischen, your mother was a vampire.”
“Wh-”
“That makes you a hybrid,” I interrupted her. “A hybrid of a werewolf and a vampire. To the werewolf council, this is illegal. The last known hybrid went berserk and made hybrids outlawed. However, your family loved too much to kill you like they were supposed to.” She looks down, her eyebrows furrowing together. “So when you were younger, a member from the werewolf council found out about you and told your uncle that you were to be killed. So he instructed me to take you and run. Protect you.” Her eyes snapped up to me, worry clearly in them.
“But that puts you in danger doesn’t it?” I frowned at her, taking her hand. “I don’t want you getting in trouble because of me. . .” At that I chuckled.
“Trust me, I will be fine. I can handle myself. So much that Alpha Weiss also instructed me to train you when you have shifted and your vampire side come out.” A smirk came to her lips.
"So. . ." She paused. "What I'm hearing is that once you train me, I can kick some serious ass?" I chuckled and rubbed my head. My headache was getting worse.
"I guess you can see it like that.” I needed to tell her my side of the story but I don’t want to worry her even further. It’s her birthday. Perhaps another day. . . “Let's try not to focus on that right now. What do you want to do? We can start packing tomorrow so don't fight me on that." She nodded and grabbed the remote. I laughed as she turned on the first Harry Potter movie. She wasn't really the kind of girl to want to leave the house. She preferred to stay indoors.
I ordered from her favorite Chinese food place for lunch and for dinner we just had pizza. I was going to make an actual meal but she refused to let me miss more than three minutes of the movie. I had made her an ice cream cake the night before after she fell asleep and infused some blood into the cake. That was one thing I had been doing for the past few months to keep her anger down. I infused blood once every two days into one of her meals and that seemed to keep her calm. Around midnight she had fallen asleep and I carefully took her to her room. I started to grab boxes that we had saved in the closet. I started packing my office first. Time to find a new town.
