A week later
Mischen has been having nightmares ever since the incident with her tutor. We had to stay in the house for one more day to pack everything up and I ended up buying a storage thing that we were able to attach to the car. Usually, we don't keep more than we can easily pack away but we didn't think we were going to have to leave this town so we got more stuff to keep. Mischen got more movies and books when she used to just check them out from her school's library.
I stared at Mischen, making sure she was okay, as we drove through another town. She was quiet as she had mostly been for the past week. Her favorite book, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, in her hands. She flipped through the pages not seeming to fully read them.
"Mischen?" She put her book down and nervously looked at me. I looked back at the road, not wanting to crash into anything. "Are you okay?" I watched her nod out of the corner of my eye and go back to her book.
"You know you're safe now, right? I'm not going to let anyone hurt you again." She nodded and put her book away, laying down in her seat. I saw an exit sign on the side of the road and smiled. "Are you hungry?" She shrugged and I turned to the exit. I smiled when a certain diner came into view along with the hotels and shopping center a bit off in the distance. I parked in a random spot and opened my door. When I noticed Mischen wasn't getting out I went and opened her door for her. "Come on Mischen. You're going to love this diner, I swear." She sighed and got out of the car. She held her hand out and I placed mine in hers, sparks going up my arm and a comforting feeling most likely going through her.
Any time we were outside this past week she clings onto me in someway. She said she doesn't feel safe if she's not holding onto me.
After what happened I had this small hope that she would be okay. I had a small hope that she would be back to her usual self the next day. Yes, I expected for her to have a few new fears or be overall scared for a day or two but that didn't really happen. Yes, she has new fears now but she's been quiet, she hasn't really been caring about things she usually does, and she wakes up every night screaming and sometimes crying. I guess that hope was too small.
We walked into the diner and sat at a random booth after a waitress handed me two menus as Mischen wasn't paying attention. When we sat down I handed her menu to her, looking out the window. I checked my phone. Nothing. I sighed and looked at the menu.
"What can I get you two?" I smile at the waitress and look to Mischen. She just pushes around a packet of sugar.
"I'll have a steak burger with water and she'll have. . ." I look to Mischen, begging in my head that she will say something. "She'll just have a regular burger with hot chocolate." The waitress nodded and gave me a look of pity before walking off.
"I'm not really hungry," Mischen whispered. She started to play with the end of her braid, yanking on it sometimes.
"You need to eat. Just a little please." She shrugged and I took out my phone, waiting for something.
"Here you go," the waitress said as she handed us our food and drinks. "Anything else I can get for you two?" She looked to Mischen, obviously trying to get her to talk.
"I think we're good. Thank you." She walked off and I looked back to see a sight that brought a small smile to my lips. Mischen was eating. For the past few days she's eaten about once a day, sometimes not at all. For the first two days she ended up getting sick every time she ate.
When we were almost done my phone started to vibrate. I looked at the message with a smile on my face. "Come on Mischen. There's something I think you'd like to see." I put money on the table, took her hand, and left the diner.
When we got outside Mischen froze. "Is that. . ." I nodded and squeezed her hand. She quickly let go of me and ran to Alpha Weiss. I smiled as I watched her throw her arms around him and as I watched Luna Joli wrap her arms around her as well. I walked to them, a smile never leaving my lips.
"Thank you Salvus," Luna Joli told me with tears in her eyes.
"Please don't thank me. I should be apologizing." She got up, a look of confusion in her eyes. Mischen and Alpha Weiss got up as well but Mischen didn't let go of him.
"What happened?" Alpha Weiss looked down at Mischen, trying to find any scars or physical injuries. Even if there was any physical injuries left behind, he wouldn't be able to see them due to her baggy Harry Potter sweater. Mischen had visibly stiffened and she backed up from Alpha Weiss, her hand automatically reaching out for mine like she has been doing this past week. I took her hand in mine, giving Alpha Weiss and Luna Joli a sad smile.
"I don't think it's the best idea to talk about it right now." He nodded, pulling his mate to his side.
"We have two connected rooms at the hotel right over there. Why don't you meet us there. We'll take Mischen so you can get your car." I gave him a grateful smile and let go of Mischen's hand. "It's room 72." They walked back to their room and I walked back to the diner to get the car. I parked it in the hotel parking lot and quickly looked around for room 72, finding it in about ten minutes.
I knocked on the door and it opened in less than a minute. I smiled at Alpha Weiss. "Where's Mischen?"
"Watching a movie with Joli. I want to know what happened. Now." Alpha Weiss is not usually like this but someone has messed with his family, he can tell, and that is something you never want to do. Not with any werewolf. They were protective of their own. It’s especially a bad idea with an alpha.
"Then go get Joli because this isn't something you would really want to repeat." He nodded and went to get her, Mischen staying in the other room.
"She fell asleep. Is she sick Salvus? It's really early." I sighed and sat down on a sofa that was in the corner of the room.
"She hasn't been sleeping a lot lately. She gets three, maybe four hours a day." I put my head in my hands, not wanting to go over this.
"What happened Salvus? No more holding this off," Alpha Weiss growled out. "She is my niece and I want to know what is going on." I nodded.
So I explained what happened. I explained why he was at our house, I explained why I left, and then I explained why I will forever regret leaving the house. I told them about what happened when I got home and a sob broke out of Luna Joli's lips. I told them what I did to him, how I left him to die painfully in the woods and hoped an animal would come along to make it more painful. Then I told them about how she has been this past week, not getting to finish before a scream broke out in the other room.
I quickly ran to the other room, going to Mischen's side before Alpha Weiss and Luna Joli could even get into the room. When I got to her I held her to my chest. She began to cry hysterically and clawed at my shirt, trying to grasp on. I put one hand on the back of her head and guided her head to my chest while my other hand rubbed soothing circles on her back. I looked to the doorway, seeing Alpha Weiss and Luna Joli standing there. The looks in their eyes are something that will haunt me forever.
