A few months later
"Mischen, stop whining. You should be used to having a tutor by now." Mischen glared at the ground and marched off to her room to get her backpack from wherever she 'hid' it. I heard a knock on the door at exactly four. "Mischen hurry up or no ice cream after dinner!" Every Wednesday and Friday Mischen and I would go out to get ice cream or I would buy some at the store the day before and have it at the house.
"You wouldn't dare!" I heard her shout from her room and I chuckled.
"Just watch me!" I go to open the door and smile. "Hello Mr. Gruselig, it's nice to see you."
"Nice to see you too Salvus. How's work?" He gave me a smile, showing his slightly crooked teeth but I wouldn't judge him for that. Humans have so many flaws, none of them are perfect.
"Boring as always but it's almost impossible to find any job that isn't completely boring." He chuckled, shaking his head of light brown hair as he agreed with me. I stepped to the side and let him in.
"Where's Mischen?" Usually Mischen is in the middle of getting all her work out by the time he gets here so his confusion was understandable.
"She tried to hide her backpack so she wouldn't have to work on math so she is in her room finding it." He laughed and went to sit at the kitchen table.
"Do you want something to drink?" I get out two cups, intending to give him water even if he said no.
"Just water, thank you." I handed him his glass and sat down to talk to him until Mischen got here.
When Mischen first met him, she absolutely hated him and the idea of tutoring. She thought he was weird looking, which she wasn't all that wrong about since at the time he had long naturally greasy light brown hair tied back into a ponytail and with his crooked teeth, and thought it was stupid to spend more time learning when she was out of school. Luckily though, he cut his hair so that made him less weird.
"Where is she? Just give me a minute please. I'll go see what's keeping her." I got up from my seat and went to Mischen's room. It was a mess. Her pillows, clothes, and blankets were thrown everywhere. "Mischen. . . What is going on?" She turned to me and slowly blinked.
"I uhhh. . . I don't exactly remember where I put my bag." I rose an eyebrow as she twirled a strand of her dirty blonde hair around her finger nervously.
"Seriously?" She nodded making me sigh.
"I may have hid my organizer in a different place from my backpack too."
"Then hurry up. It's rude to make people wait." I started to help her look for her stuff. I found her organizer in the back of her closet and she found her backpack behind her dresser. "Now go work, you've already lost some time. If you ever do this again I'm taking away your Harry Potter movies."
"You wouldn't dare," she sneered.
"Watch me," I hissed. She ran out of her room and I could hear her and Mr. Gruselig talking, math eventually being brought up making Mischen groan. I chuckled and went to the kitchen. "I'll be in my office if you need me." I walked to my office and took out my laptop. I started to work on some random forms that I was too lazy to do at work. It was about thirty minutes later when I got a phone call.
"Salvus," my new co-working Amy said in a worried voice. Since she was new I gave her my number for if she ever needed help. She was a typically nervous person but when I saw her with her husband one time, she was possibly the calmest person ever. "I uhhh. . . accidentally exited out of my files and now none of them are appearing and I can't figure out how to get them back and I don't know what to do because the boss wants to see them by tomorrow and what happens if he fires me? I can't be fired! I mean, my husband is a teacher and that's pretty crappy pay. How will I pay my rent? Salvus, I don't-"
"Amy," I interrupt her. "Take a deep breath. I'll be there in a few minutes and see what I can do." She says goodbye and I can hear her taking deep breaths as I hang up. I stop by the kitchen to see Mischen glaring at her math textbook as Mr. Gruselig tries to explain something to her. "I have to run to my office downtown really quickly and I should be back in about twenty, maybe thirty minutes. Is that okay?"
"Of course," Mr. Gruselig says with a smile and then goes back to explaining something.
I drive to my office and find Amy pressing random buttons on her computer. "Amy, stop that before you break the computer. I'm pretty sure you can't call repeatedly slamming buttons an accident." She chuckles nervously.
"So can you help me?" She pushed her bob cut ginger hair behind her ear and started biting her nails.
"Let me see what I can do." I took her computer and started to mess around with her file system. In less than ten minutes I've gotten back every file making Amy sigh in relief.
"Thank you so much."
"No problem. Now, I've got to go home. I left Mischen with her tutor and knowing her she'll put a hole in her textbook with his head." She laughed and we said goodbye to each other.
I got home, realizing that I should make dinner soon when I heard a sound come from the living room. "Shut up!"
"Please! Get off of me," I heard Mischen let out a whimper and immediately I ran to the living room, worry clouding my mind. The sight in front of me turned my eyes black. Mischen's tutor was on top of her, one of his hands covering her mouth while the other one going up her skirt. I sped over to him and ripped him off of her.
"What the hell do you think you're doing!?" He scrambled up and looked at me with wide eyes. My eyes were black, my chest heaving in anger, and my fist clenched tightly. "You sick f*****g perv! She is a f*****g eleven year old girl! I swear I'm going to f*****g kill you, you sick son of a b***h!"
"What the hell are you?" He tried to push himself up but I kicked him down. "Your eyes are black! You freak!"
"You just touched an eleven year old girl and you call me the freak!" He started to shake and I yanked him up. I brought him closer and whispered in his ear. "I'm feeding you to the animals mother fucker." I quickly sped out of the house and far into the woods where no one could her him scream. I threw him to the ground and stomped on his leg, hearing a beautiful sounding snap and then his wonderful screams. I did the same to his other leg, enjoying his pained screams.
"Stop!" I smirked at him and punched a hole in his chest, letting his disgusting blood pool around him as he gasped to get air to his now punctured heart. I stayed until I heard the final beat of his heart.
"Rot in hell," I said and my eyes went back to normal.
Mischen quickly came to my mind and I ran back to the house. I went to the living room and I couldn't find her. "Mischen!" I double checked the living room and checked her room. I noticed the sound of the shower and sobs. The door was open and I slightly pushed it open. "Mischen," I whispered. The shower curtain was fully open, Mischen inside with her clothes on, her arms wrapped around her knees as she cried into her knees. I stepped into the shower/bath and held her in my arms. She turned around and buried her face in my chest. "I'm sorry," I whisper. "I never should have left." My arms tightened around her as the water started to get colder.
I quickly turned off the water and grabbed a towel. I wrapped it around her and walked to her room. I set her on her bed and looked at her eyes. They were gold. "Why don't you get changed into something else. I'll be right back. No more than a few minutes." She nodded and wrapped her blanket around herself tightly.
I grabbed a blanket and put it in the dryer for a few minutes while I changed out of my damp clothes. I heard the machine go off and quickly grabbed it out, running back to her room. She was crying the the corner of her room, clutching her blanket. I slowly walked up to her and gently pried the blanket from her fingers, wrapping the warm one around her instead.
"Hey Misha, you're going to be okay. I promise." She nodded but her tears didn't stop flowing. I picked her up and held her in my arms, moving to her bed. I laid down next to her, holding her hand until she fell asleep.
I should have been here. I should have protected her. If only I hadn't gone to the office then she would have been fine.
"Salvus?" I looked to Mischen who I thought was asleep. "I don't like it here. Please don't make us stay here." I nodded.
"We can leave tomorrow morning. Take a nap and I'll go make dinner. What do you want?" She shook her head.
"I'm not hungry. I feel like I'm going to be sick." I rubbed her back.
"I'm so scared Salvus," she whispered.
"I know Misha but I promise nothing like that will ever happen again."
"Promise?" Her tears had glued her hair to her cheeks and her face was pale. I hated seeing her like this.
"I promise."
