After my dad made me promise to tell him next time I decided to go for a walk, I went to my room and turned on my radio. I opened my closet and pulled out a few outfits my mom took me to last year. I was going to start wearing skirts and midriff shirts but I felt like it was something I couldn't pull off. I tried on a black skirt that came to my knee and a black midriff shirt and I didn't really like it. I tried on my green and black plaid skirt with my black off-the-shoulder midriff shirt and I liked how I looked in it. I tried on my tan and brown plaid skirt with my tan half-sleeve midriff shirt and liked it too. The last one I tried on was my black and grey plaid skirt with my light grey midriff t-shirt and liked it as well. I decided I was going to start wearing them when school started and see if changing my appearance would make a difference this year since I have always been a tomboy and wore baggy pants and t-shirts.
I was also going to ask my dad if he could take me to the store so I could go pick out some make-up. I don't normally wear it and I don't want to get anything that is too bright or dark. I figured more natural tones would be a better look for me since I have an olive tint to my complexion. I grabbed all the clothes I picked out to wear and a few other pieces of clothing and took my laundry to the laundry room to wash. I started my load of clothes and my dad starts yelling for me. When I walked into the living room He was leaning back in his chair and asked why I was doing my laundry right now.
I told him because I decided to change up my wardrobe this year. He told me he was glad I was wanting to do something different and said it seemed like I was starting to come out of my shell a little. I asked him if he could take me to go buy some make-up and he looked at me crazy. I told him nothing bright or dark dad. I just want some natural colors to compliment my skin tone. I told him I'm 17 and I have only make-up once and that was when I was 8. He laughed and said he remembered when he walked in from work and saw me wearing my mom's bright red lipstick and blue eye shadow. I said I am a little older and I am sure I can manage to put it on correctly now. He shook his head while laughing and said he would take me tomorrow.
I asked what was for dinner and my dad said we were going out tonight. I asked where we were going and he said to get wings. I gave him a hug and said oh my god yes! thank you! I went and changed and got ready to go out. When we got back from dinner I was sitting out on my back patio writing in my journal when I heard a whistle. I looked up and saw Brooks out on his backstep. I smiled and he motioned for me to come to him. I walked out into the yard a little and he came down to where his fence stopped. I asked what was up and he said he just wanted to hear my voice. I smiled and started blushing.
"I love how I make you blush every time I say something like that to you."
"I am still not used to it."
"I hope that never changes though. Hopefully, I'll see you tomorrow." And he blew me a kiss.
I said maybe. I walked back to my patio and the smile didn't leave my face until I was in bed asleep. I woke up sweating and looked at the time, it was only 2 am. I got up and cracked my window and sat in front of it for a few minutes to cool off and I saw the back porch light on at Brooks and I saw a figure around his height standing there. I got up and locked my door and went out the window. I walked over to where I was earlier when I saw talked to him so I could see if it was him or not. It was Brooks and I smiled at the sight in front of me. He was shirtless and had on PJ bottoms.
I whistled and got his attention. He walked down to the end of his yard.
"What are you doing up?" He asked.
"I couldn't sleep I woke up sweating."
"Why are you outside?"
"I opened my window to get some air and cool off and saw you out here so I figured I would come out and see what you were doing up."
"I had a lot on my mind and it was hard to get comfortable so I came outside to get some air and clear my head."
"So you decided to sit on the back porch which just so happens to face my window instead of sitting on the front porch which is right there at your door? He gave me a cheesy grin.
"I think better on the back porch."
"So it doesn't have anything to do with me? I laughed and he shook his head.
"Well, I guess I need to get back inside and try to go back to sleep."
He said he was going to do the same but before I walked away he asked me to come closer and when I did he pulled me by my shirt towards him and kissed me. When we pulled apart he smirked at me.
"Good night cutie." I waved and headed back to my window.
