Chapter 11

"Should I know you?" "I'm Kenny Hastings." He handed her a hand and I thought him crazy. He must be crazy if he thinks I'm shaking hands with her after she insulted what I'm capable of. "With all due respect, I don't give a damn about who you are, Kenny Hastings." I spat out before walking out the door where Clara was waiting. What does she want now? "But I do about you," he says even after I had left to walk out of the room. Turning around, I glared at him, annoyed to the core. "I just wanted to tell you that it would be lovely to see you at the fundraiser my mom is organizing. I heard your daddy is one of the competitors to watch for in the company." "That's great except I don't care about you or what you do or how you feel. I would love to leave for my next class, though." "Kenny, I swear if your lips utter one more syllable, I'm going to make it swell up so big you won't even feel it tomorrow," Clara interjects before Kenny could say anything more. Needless to say, her threat made him shut up and we walked peacefully to our next class together. "Who was that?" She asks, rummaging through her backpack, looking for something specific. "I don't know. He mentioned his mom worked with my dad. I don't know. He just seemed off and very weird. Why would you ambush a person and degrade or throw insults at them? It wasn't very sociable of him." We walked down the hallway to see students scattering about. “I have to meet Adrian,” She muttered in a low voice as we left the picnic tables and made headway towards the exit. “Oh,” I said, surprised. I was more speechless than mad. I don’t know if Adie worked his charms on her again or she was just bluffing to get a reaction out of me. “You’re not going to ask me why?” “No, why should I? I have nothing to be concerned about between you and Adrian, Clara. I am not sure I understand why you always goad me into reacting about that.” I tell her with all honesty and she doesn’t take it well. “I am not goading you, Charlotte. I am a concerned citizen that wants you and Adrian to patch up. If only you knew how much trouble he has gotten under for trying to win your favor back.” I don’t even know how to respond to that one. I had minimal to no contact with Adrian at all. How he managed to get into trouble because of me spoke volumes about him, and not me. I refuse him to be the victim in this scenario. “I don’t owe you, Adrian, or anyone a piece of my time, okay, Clara? Let’s get something straightened out once and for all. Adrian was my ex-boyfriend and that is over now. Why do you keep on bringing that up? I don’t know. I am not going to give him any more chances to hurt me, even if he begs for it with his life. I don’t understand why you’re rooting for him when you’re dating him and have you not seen how bad a person he is? Do you want me to befriend that pig after getting to know him?” I ranted on. She was getting on my nerves. Day after day, all I heard from her was how amazing Adrian was. How he wanted to apologize to me. Well, guess what, sweetie, if he was sorry? He would not have cheated on me and lied to me ever since. “I am sorry for pushing that on you, Lottie,” She said after a momentary silence. “I never thought of it that way. It’s just that I owe him some things and I think he’s starting to turn his life around, I swear. I thought helping him patch things up with you was one way of repaying him. But now that I think about it, he’s not very nice. He still needs to work on himself. I’m glad you broke up with him when you did.” She replies.
