Chapter 10

I have problems to think of. One of them is how it always makes me all sappy and sad just thinking about how I lost to Damien White. That's a problem. I'll come over at six. -H Hailey replied instantly and I pocketed my phone back once I read her reply. I got inside the room only to find Clara typing away at her phone. "Where's everybody?" "Not here yet. You're early, Lottie." She said without glancing at me and I looked at my watch. I still had twenty minutes left before Mr. Hawking comes. "Oh," I said to myself in realization. I sat down on my seat and took out my notes from yesterday. This is a little routine I do upon arriving at my classes. But while I was scanning my notebook, I couldn't help myself but think about the incident with Damien earlier. I wasn't taking anything, but shortcakes. It was given to me. Are you gonna argue about that? It's not fair. He's so annoying. I know I didn't give it to him. He took it without permission. Maybe if I had done something when it happened. Maybe if I didn't keep quiet about it and told someone before he told everyone. Maybe I could've kept what's mine "Lottie," I hate thinking about what happened. I hate thinking about the what-ifs and the maybe. I just hate it. Therefore, once again, I am closing this part of my brain that keeps remembering memories that should have never been reopened. "Charlotte." Clara pulled me out of my daze and I was thankful for the distraction. "What?" "I talked to Adrian yesterday and—" "Whoa, hold on, you talked to Adrian?" She swore she would never talk to him ever again. After, what did he do to her? I thought that was the end of their relationship. "Yes, I talked to Adrian. Don't be too surprised. I move on, Charlotte. That's something we should all do." She lectured and I had to keep myself from rolling my eyes at her. She's such a know-it-all. "He was looking for you. He wanted to apologize." "He isn't." Suddenly they're best friends, talking and all? Plus, she's taking his side. Why is that? Did they get back together or something? Maybe Clara owes Adie something. "Yeah, he is. Give the man a chance, Lottie." "I have given him one too many, Clara." "I do think you should talk to him." You know what I think, Clara? You're not thinking right. Besides, what does he have to do with you anyway? I thought to myself. I want to talk sense into her, but I don't want to make this a big deal. "My hand just did." I giggled like a little girl. "What?" "I slapped him right across his thick face." "Dude, why would you do that? The man's trying to say sorry." She exclaimed. "He lied to me," I stated. She looked at me like I'd grown a second head. "So what? Everybody lies, Charlotte. What's your problem with that?" I furrowed my brows at her. So she takes it that lying is normal and everyone should just lie? It's normal, but doing it often and in critical situations isn't acceptable! "Maybe that's the problem, Clara. Everybody lies and I don't know what to believe anymore. Forgive me for protecting myself, Clara." "Protect from what? You're being silly, Charlotte. Okay? Adrian has been clear about his feelings ever since. That's not a lie." "And you believe what he's showing?" "Yeah, I do." She answered confidently. So does she know Adrian better than me now? "It's funny." Their relationship struggled to reach three months. What does she know about Adrian other than the best position to sleep with him? "What is?" "You believe him so much that I think you're forgetting he lied and cheated on you, too." Clara gaped at me, shocked. "Wow." "Yeah, be surprised that I know." "I know you know. I just didn't think you'd blow that back on me," she said. "I'm trying to help you here." "Sorry if I'm crossing the line here. But Clara, we're over and done with. And I have moved on. As you said, it's something we should all do." "I meant you should accept and forgive what he did, Charlotte! The guy likes you. You gonna let that pass?" She cried out. When will she get over it? "He did like me. I liked him as well. But I'm over it. I hope you get over it, too." I shot her a genuine smile and turned my attention back to my notebook. Students started arriving. It didn't take five minutes to fill the room with people and noise. I couldn't see Clara from the crowd and I was happy because of the lack of sight. I know for a fact that between me and Adrian, she has always preferred Adrian. She dated him. Why shouldn't she? But after what they've been through, I just thought maybe she'd change her opinion of him and side with me. I guess that's not happening. Clara and Adrian dated a while back. They didn't last long but they were close and intimate. It got awkward between me and her, but when Adrian was through with her, everything went back to normal. Well, as normal as it gets between us. Mr. Hawking arrived and the class started. Time passed by quickly and before I knew it, English was already over. "Don't forget your reports next week, guys. It's your last week," he said before scurrying out. I sighed. I haven't proofread my papers for Spanish class and now I have to start writing on this other one. I'm glad it's almost Christmas break. The holidays will give me a refreshing view of my life. And it takes away the stress from school. "Stupid papers," I muttered. "If you can't do it, it's not the papers that's stupid, it's you." Someone spoke from behind me. It instantly made my blood boil and I turned around to see who had the nerve to talk to me like that. "Excuse me?" I scowled. This girl had better say sorry or she's getting her brains kicked. "I said you're being lazy." She calmly stated, not even slightly intimidated by the deathly stare I was giving her. Containing my anger was a hard task. I don't have the longest patience with brats. "Do I know you?" "I sit behind you every single afternoon. You don't know me?" She chortled sarcastically. Since I'm asking. I stopped myself from rolling my eyes at her, even when I didn't care what she'd think if I did.
