May’s P.O.V
After Susan, Walter and Angie left I carried on with the work I had to do and the next thing I knew it was time for me to go home. I waved goodbye to Walter and Susan, telling them that I would see them tomorrow as I left the store and got into my car, heading to Erick’s pack. It still felt so weird that I was mated to a werecat, but I was beginning to understand it all a bit more, especially now that I’d had time to get used to the idea and everything that came with it. I was dying to see how they were doing with my house and if they had moved it yet, but I was also a bit worried in case it hadn’t been possible. I drove there, wanting nothing more than to take a shower and change out of my clothes and then I realised that all of my stuff was still in my house, even my clothes. I would need to get them out somehow without disturbing the house as it needed time to settle like Erick’s dad had said, but hopefully I would be able to. When I pulled up to the gates at the entrance of the pack territory or land, whatever it was called I was greeted by two guards who both smiled at me.
“Welcome home, future Luna May.” One guard said, making me smile.
“Thank you.” I replied as I drove through the gates and down the driveway. When I reached the front of the pack house I parked my car and got out, taking a look at the land surrounding it and that's when I saw my house, instantly making me smile. They had managed to move it and they looked like they were running the pipes to it. I looked around and saw Erick walking towards me, but before I could ask him about my clothes he beat me to it.
“Don’t worry, I got your clothes upstairs in my room, that way you can shower and relax. They have already been put away in my dresser.” Erick said, making me smile even wider.
“Thank you, I definitely need a shower and want to relax.” I replied as he kissed my cheek and hugged me before I went into the house and up to his room. I found my clothes exactly where Erick said they would be and grabbed a pair of shorts and a shirt before going to the bathroom. I took a long relaxing shower, letting the water fall over my body, before getting out, drying off and getting dressed. I went back into the bedroom and flopped down on the bed, turning the TV on, but after flipping through the channels I turned it off and decided to go out onto the balcony. I sat down in one of the chairs overlooking the woods and let the fresh air relax me some more. It seemed so peaceful out there and the way the breeze hit the tops of the trees was mesmerising. It just blew it a little, but when it did I noticed that there was some movement and then I saw Erick coming out of the tree line with a large brick in his hand. I was curious as to what he was doing, so I watched him and then saw that he was putting it under the house for the pipe. I watched him as he worked, admiring how good he looked, but when he caught me watching I turned my attention back to the woods. It was pretty cool how high up I was and I could actually see rabbits, deer and a bear, but the bear looked really weird. It looked like it was deformed and then it happened, it started to form into something else. I stood to my feet and started to watch as the bear was changing into a man. His face changed first and then the rest of his body, but it was a scary sight and I had to hold my hand over my mouth so that I didn’t scream out. I didn’t think I could watch something like that again after Erick shifted and I saw and heard how much it hurt him, but when the man had fully changed I realised he was now naked, so I quickly averted my gaze. I waited for a few seconds, hoping he was getting dressed and then I looked over at him again, but he was gone. I looked down to where Erick was and saw the same man coming out of the woods, just as Rune got there. The three of them started talking and although I couldn’t hear what they were saying I was praying that there wasn’t any drama because if there was I didn’t want to hear about it. I sat back down in the chair and started to drink the lemonade that was already set out. After almost an hour I began to get tired, so I went back inside and shut the balcony doors behind me. I laid down on the bed and turned the TV back on, then started to watch the Goonies. I caught it where they found the old restaurant and the villains were inside, then the old lady gave them water that was the colour of light brown mud. I leaned back to watch it, but soon I was dozing off and before I knew what was going on I was being gently shaken awake.
“Are you hungry? Dinner is ready if you want to eat.” Erick said, making me blink a few times as I sat up in bed.
“Yeah, I could eat something.” I replied, getting off the bed and going to the bathroom. I did my business, washed my hands and face to wake myself up before going back into the bedroom. Erick and I went downstairs and walked into the dining hall to sit down just as the food was being brought out. There were plates of hamburgers and fries, with cucumber salad, plus mac and cheese and corn. Everyone started to dig in, so I did the same, putting a hamburger on my plate with some cucumber salad, then I put some A1 sauce on my plate, cut up my hamburger and started eating with everyone else.
“Hey Erick, who was that man that came out of the woods and what did he want?” I asked, just as we had both finished our dinner, but he didn’t answer me straight away. He grabbed his plate and mine, then stood up and went to the kitchen, so I followed him. We washed the plates up, dried them off and then put them away, but the whole time Erick was silent. We went up to Erick’s room and as soon as the door closed behind us he cleared his throat, but for some reason I had a bad feeling about what he was going to say.
“Listen, the man you saw earlier is a werebear and he was patrolling the area. He’s called a protector and he’s one of many. There's plenty more out there and you will meet them soon enough. They already know that you’re human because they could smell your scent, so every now and then you will see some odd things happen around here and some odd people too, but they are here to watch and to protect you. Sometimes you may see them and sometimes you won’t even know they are there, but he came to talk to me to ask me what I was doing to your house, so we explained. He will be back tomorrow to finish up and then we can move into your house together. We made some adjustments, but don’t worry I’m sure that you will like them.” Erick replied, but it only made me even more curious.
“Okay, so what the hell else is out there? Why didn’t you just say that when I asked? What kind of adjustments? I wanted to do the adjustments.” I said, pouting slightly, but he just chuckled.
“I didn’t tell you downstairs because protectors are very guarded people and they don’t like being talked about in public. There are lots of creatures out there and I will teach you about them as we go along. Don’t worry, you can make as many adjustments to your home as you like, we just built onto the back like you told me before and we made the room bigger. You will love it, I promise.” Erick replied and I nodded.
“Our home. I can’t wait to see it tomorrow. It's my day off, so when I wake up I want to head right over there and take a look.” I said, correcting his previous statement of it being my home and he smiled.
“Okay, my love.” Erick replied, smiling. I got up and changed into my night clothes and laid back down on the bed, with Erick. I knew I was tired, but I couldn’t help wondering what else was out there that I still hadn’t seen. There was still so much to know about and so much to see.
