May’s P.O.V
I kept hearing loud beeping noises and something that sounded like a drain, but as I slowly opened my eyes I saw the bright white ceiling that made me quickly shut them again. I blinked a few times, adjusting to the light and then opened my eyes again. I saw that I was in a hospital room and it was the machines that were hooked up to me that were making the loud beeping noises, but where was the noise that sounded like a drain coming from? I tried to sit up in bed and felt a little pain as I did so, but when I looked to my right I realised that it was Erick making that noise. He was asleep in the chair next to my bed and was snoring loudly. He looked really uncomfortable, his head leaning forward, causing him to snore, but when I reached out and gently touched his hand he suddenly woke up.
“How are you feeling? Are you okay? Are you hungry? Are you feeling any pain at all?” Erick quickly said, holding my hand in his. I softly chuckled at his concern and quick fire questions.
“I feel okay. Yes, I feel a little pain, but I’m alright, it will pass. No, I’m not hungry.” I replied and then I looked down at my arm that had a huge needle sticking out of it. There was blood going into my arm and when I followed the tube attached to the needle I found a blood bag hanging up and whoevers blood it was had nearly run out. I started to panic when I looked at the blood and prayed that it was human blood.
“Erick, whose blood is this? You know how I feel about changing right now, I don’t want to yet.” I asked, but Erick just chuckled.
“Don’t worry, it’s not mine or any other werecats, it’s human blood. We had to do this because you lost a lot of blood,s o we had to give you a transfusion. There’s no need to worry, I already told the doctor that you didn’t want to be turned yet and to give you human blood.” Erick replied and I nodded, just as the doctor came through the door and smiled at me when he saw that I was awake.
Doctor Dini’s P.O.V
I walked over to Luna May and began checking the monitors, before turning to face her.
“Hello Luna, my name is Doctor Dini. So, how are you feeling? I bet you’re ready to go home, huh?” I asked and she quickly nodded.
“I feel fine, a little pain but nothing to worry about and yes, I’m ready to go home, but how long was I out for?” Luna May asked, curious.
“You were out for a week, dear. You had very bad cuts on your legs and arms, but the lacerations on your back were very deep and we needed to stitch them up, so I need you to be careful when you move and especially when you lay down.” I replied, looking back at the monitor. There was so much more that I wanted to tell her, like that I had used supernatural blood instead of human, but I knew that she’d had too much stress and would blow a gasket if she knew. Besides the pills that I was going to give her would not only reduce her pain, but they would also keep the creature, if it was still alive, down inside of her so that she wouldn’t shift. I had used a werecats blood, even though I knew as well as everyone else that she didn’t want to become like us, not yet anyway, but it was the only way to heal her, without it she would have been in a coma for weeks, maybe even months and the pain would have been unbearable for her.
“Well if you’re ready to go home then you can, but I have a bottle of pills to give you. They are pain pills to help you heal and you need to take them every four hours, as and when needed. If you feel any pain whatsoever then take two pills, but no more than that at a time. Is that clear?” I said and she nodded. I left the room and grabbed the pills and the paperwork for her discharge, then went back in. May signed the paperwork and I handed her the pill bottle.
“I’m afraid you won’t be able to wear any tight or close fitting clothes for a while, just in case they rip your stitches or aggravate the wound.” I said, looking at Alpha Erick.
“It’s okay, the nurse told me earlier so I got you a pair of sweatpants and a sweatshirt.” Alpha Erick replied, looking at May.
“Right then, I’ll leave you to get dressed and then see you back here in one week to check on your stitches or sooner if there are any problems.” I said and they both nodded.
Erick’s P.O.V
Doctor Dini was behaving a little odd, but I just put it down to the fact that he was nervous about treating my mate and the future Luna of the pack. I helped May off the bed and into her clothes, being extra careful with her back. I could see the stitches running down her back in long lines and it made my heart clench that she had gone through that because of a member of my pack. Well, an ex member now. We left the hospital and although we only lived a mile away I still drove, not wanting her to walk home and end up getting hurt or pulling her stitches. I made sure to drive slowly, avoiding any bumps along the way and when we finally got home I quickly rushed around to help her out of the car. I decided a car would be better to save her having to strain getting into my truck, but just as her feet touched the ground and she was standing her eyes went wide and she gasped. I thought that she was hurt or had caught her stitches or something, but then I saw that she was looking behind me and when I turned I saw that everyone from the pack was walking towards us. I knew that they were all happy that their future Luna was finally home and it made me proud to call them my family and friends. My mom and dad came over and gently hugged May, knowing that she had to be careful and making sure that she didn’t hurt her.
“Erick, go take her into the house and make sure that she is comfortable, then come to my office, we have paperwork to do and I’m afraid that it can’t wait.” My dad said and I nodded. I took May’s hand and helped her up the steps and into the house as pack members wished her a speedy recovery. She thanked each of them, but I knew that she was drained from all of this, so I took her straight to the bedroom and helped her get into bed. As soon as her head hit the pillow she was out like a light and I knew that it had seriously worn her out just walking from the car to the house and up the stairs.
“I’ll be back soon.” I whispered and kissed her forehead. I knew that something was going on when my dad asked me to come to his office for paperwork, instead of telling me to stay with my mate, especially as we did the paperwork the other day, so what’s going on? I left our house and made my way to the pack house, going straight to my dad's office.
“Hey dad, what’s going on?” I asked, curious as to what this was all about. My dad sighed as he looked up at me and then shook his head. s**t, this must be serious.
“Son, we have a problem, a huge one. There are rogues after May now, some of them didn’t like the fact that she, a human, beat one of our own, so they want her dead to prove that humans are weaker. We both know this is a load of bullshit because May beat Caroline fair and square, plus she is the future Luna of this pack and we all love her, but there are rogues out there that don’t like this and consider it an abomination. We need to figure out who they are and when they are going to attack so that we can get rid of them because if May gets hurt anymore than she already is right now then she could go into shock and die and we both know that you don’t want that to happen.” My dad said, shocking me. I knew what dad was talking about and I seriously didn’t want that to happen to May, knowing that the only way to save her would be to change her and she wasn’t ready for that, she didn’t want that, not yet.
“Who the f**k is after her? I need to get back, I left her alone and unprotected.” I said, starting to get out of my chair, but my dad held his hand up and stopped me.
“She isn’t alone and she is protected, after you left I had five guards stay near the house, keeping an eye on things, don’t worry I would never put her in danger.” My dad said, making me feel relieved, but also guilty.
“I’m sorry, dad, I just panicked.” I replied, sitting back down.
“There's no need to apologise, I understand and am exactly the same when it comes to your mother.” My dad said, waving his hand and dismissing it.
“Right, so we need to figure out who these bastards are, find them and get rid of them just like you said. I don’t want anything to happen to May and I know she is a strong woman, but she has already been through too much.” I replied and my dad nodded in agreement. My dad and I started going through files, searching the records we had on the rogues and trying to figure out who was wanting to hurt my mate once again. It seemed that just as we had gotten rid of one threat another would pop up and now she was in danger yet again.
