Cooper’s P.O.V
I can’t believe that Gordon got himself killed. How f*****g stupid could he be? I told him not to go after humans, not to kill them, I even told him the law about killing them and the consequences, so why did he do it? Someone must have told him to do it, to kill humans, but whoever did has made it so that all of the packs will be going after the mutts I’ve bitten. All I ever wanted was to have the loyalty and trust of my own pack, to lead them as an Alpha should, but those two have been ruining it because some dumbass told them to kill humans and now the biggest and most powerful werecat pack is after my pack and if they find out who I am they will surely be after my head as well. I’m not sure if I should stay out of this and let it happen so that my pack will be saved or try protecting her. I want to be a good Alpha, but I honestly have no idea how the hell I am going to put this right, I thought, shaking my head as I got into my car. I started the engine and drove back to my pack, needing to talk to my Beta to see if we could figure out a solution to this massive mess.
Carol’s P.O.V
For the past six years, ever since we were turned and Cooper left, my brother has been telling me that Cooper said we needed to kill humans so that we could be in his pack, but now I have found out that it was all a lie. Why would he tell me such a thing when it wasn’t even true? Why would he lie to me, his own sister, when he knew how dangerous it was for us? How the hell am I supposed to make this right? I thought to myself, but then I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket. I reached for it and looked at the screen to see who was calling or texting me and I rolled my eyes when I saw that it was Caroline. What the hell did that stupid greedy b***h want now?
“What do you want, Caroline, I’m kinda busy right now?” I asked, rolling my eyes as I answered her call.
“Well you’re not too busy for my call. I see that May and Erick have come back together, so my guess is that the shotgun rigged up to the door didn’t work like you said it would.” Caroline said, stating the obvious.
“No, it didn’t work, she pushed him out of the way just as the gun was about to go off. Don’t worry, I’ll figure something out.” I replied, wanting to be rid of this b***h.
“Yeah, you had better because I didn’t pay you ten grand just to keep them alive.” Caroline said, pissing me off with her snooty attitude.
“Caroline, if you don’t watch how you speak to me then I’m going to bring your cash back to you and shove it right up your ass.” I replied, then hung up the phone. I threw my phone across the room, frustrated with how everything was going and how my own brother had lied to me, plus Caroline wasn’t really helping matters either, she was f*****g things up for me even more….wait, I think I know how to make things right, I thought as I quickly grabbed my phone up from the floor and looked through my contact list.
“I have that girl's number and if…if…” I muttered to myself, looking at my phone. I found her number and clicked the call button. It started to ring and I waited until I heard her voice.
May’s P.O.V
We had just gotten home and were still pretty shook up from the whole shotgun incident, but as we were walking up the steps I could have sworn I saw Caroline peeking through the curtains of her room. What the hell is that b***h up to now? I thought, going into the kitchen and pouring myself a glass of wine. I went to the living room and sat down on the couch, watching as Erick poured himself a glass of bourbon and then sitting down next to me.
“Are you okay?” He asked and I nodded.
“Yeah, I’m fine, but I can’t help thinking that we were so close to her and yet still so far away. I felt like someone was watching us while we were in that room, but there was no one else there. She’s a slick one, I know that much.” I replied as Erick sat there drinking his drink.
“That's how rogues and mutts are, they are sneaky, sly and you never know when they are going to attack. It's one of the main reasons why we have warriors and guards. The guards patrol the woods and the border of the territory, making sure that no one has crossed our borders and the warriors fight in the wars and battles. It's a hard world for us, but we live it and we love it. We fight for our family and sometimes we win, sometimes we lose, but we never stop fighting for them.” Erick said, but just as he stopped talking my phone started ringing. I picked it up off the coffee table and looked at the screen, but I didn’t recognise the number.
“Hello, who’s this?” I asked, answering the call.
“Hello May, you don’t know me, well you do and you don't, but I know you. I need you to listen to me because this is extremely important to your mates and your safety. I was paid to get rid of you and your mate, Erick, that’s where the shotgun came into the picture. I was paid ten grand to get rid of both of you, but I honestly thought that I was doing the right thing. I was bitten by a wolf and then my brother told me that we were supposed to kill humans, but now I know that it was all a lie. I know this doesn’t help you get your closure, but I….” The woman started to say, rushing her words out, but I cut her off.
“Who the f**k paid you to get rid of us? What is your name?” I asked, listening intently to the voice on the other end of the phone.
“My…m…my…my name is C…Carol and I’m the one that….nevermind. If you want to know who was the one that paid me off her name is Caroline and she’s been trying to get rid of you ever since Erick found out that you were his mate. She couldn’t get rid of you on her own, so she hired me and then she said that you wouldn’t leave, so that’s when she told me to get rid of both of you, but I can’t do it. The one that had bitten me told me that the number one rule is to never kill a human unless they try to kill you first, but I swear I didn’t know about that because my brother and I were told differently by another wolf. I was told to kill your parents, May and I am so deeply sorry that I did. I know that I can’t fix anything by saying this, but I am hoping that me telling you who is trying to kill you is a start. My Alpha told me to fix it, but I don’t know how to.” The woman I now knew as Carol replied and I listened to her carefully. It wasn’t until after she had finished talking that I realised who she really was. She was the female mutt we had been after.
“Listen Carol, this is a start, but I’m going to say this to you and I’m only going to say it once, if I ever meet up with you then I will rip your f*****g head off your shoulders and shove it up your f*****g ass.” I replied and hung up the phone. I turned to Erick and he had a confused look on his face as he raised his eyebrow.
“It seems that our favourite person, the one that has been trying to get rid of me first and now both of us, lives right across from us.” I said, standing up from the couch. I walked to the front door with Erick following behind me and walked towards Caroline’s house.
“What’s going on, May?” Erick asked, still confused.
“The phone call I got was from that b***h that tried to kill you today. She just called and told me that Caroline has been trying to get rid of us, she even paid for her to do it.” I replied and Erick tried to grab my arm to stop her, but I jerked away from him.
“No Erick, I’ve had enough of this girl's bullshit.” I said, walking up onto her porch and knocking on the door.
Caroline’s P.O.V
I was looking out my window when I saw Erick, May, Hope and Rune return, but all it did was piss me off. I told that girl that the shotgun rigged to the door was a bad plan, that May was too smart for that and I was right because they are both alive and well. I called her and threatened her telling her what she needed to do as I had paid for it, but that filthy dumbass mutt had the nerve to talk back to me and then she hung up on me. ME! I should have known that she would back out of it, especially after I told her and her brother that they needed to kill humans in order to be a member of Cooper’s pack, but then it all back fired when her stupid brother died. Dumb f**k. Things only got worse when Cooper came back into town after hearing about the humans that had been killed by mutts, which yet again made things worse for me. I threw things around my room, getting pissed off that they were still alive and then I heard a knock on the door.
“Who the f**k is that? Everyone knows that I don’t like company in the middle of the day.” I muttered to myself, but then I smelled Erick’s scent. I quickly started picking things up before I went to the door to let him in. I hope that Erick has changed his mind about that b***h and is coming back to me. I hurried to open the door, but just as I laid eyes on Erick I was grabbed by my hair and dragged out of the house. I landed hard on the ground, feeling the surge of anger around me, which only confused me. Erick would never do that to me, but then I saw May.
“WHAT THE f**k, b***h?!!!” I screamed at May, getting up from the ground. May didn’t say a single word to me as I approached her and then she just swung her fist back, punching me in the face. I looked over at Erick, but cowered back when I saw how angry he was glaring at me. Oh s**t, that mutt b***h must have told them everything after I called her. It's the only way that Erick could be so angry with me.
