Dylan's POV
“Alpha, the meeting with Bloodborne officials would be starting anytime soon.” Kane's voice brought me back to the present from where I stood lost in thoughts.
“They will have to wait.” I replied, while throwing a shirt over my body. “After all, they have everything to gain from this meeting.”
Kane nodded his head, not bothering to pursue the matter any further. He knew when I feel like talking less. We had been together that long so he understand me quite well. Kane was my childhood friend. He had always trusted and stayed true to me.
Growing up with a cruel father and a mother who cared less, Kane was the only one I could truly call a family. Hence, I had made him my Beta not only because of these qualities, he was also a strong wolf.
“Do you think she's scared of me?” I looked at Kane, wanting to hear his opinion about my mate.
“Who?” Kane asked, shooting his head up to look at me.
“My mate.”
I responded and Kane seems to be lost in thoughts for a while. He furrowed his deep grey eyes and placed his long hands on his jaws. He was like that for a moment but then, his eyes lit up when I thought he'd had no solution.
“I feel someone may be hiding her.” Kane pointed out, dropping his eyes on me as he explained. “She wasn't seen anywhere around the pack house where she works, none of her friends in school know of her whereabouts and even her mother claimed not to have seen her. There's definitely more to this!”
My mind reeled with possibilities of what Kane had said. Everything was right and all the boxes ticked. It wasn't possible she leaves the pack without the patrol guards seeing her. Even if she tried to leave in the wee hours of the night, they'd still figure her out. They are specially trained wolf and her wolf has no ability to evade such professionals.
Or?
“What if she's the one one hiding?” I sat down facing Kane. “What if she doesn't want me to find her? I mean she'd be scared knowing my reputation.”
Kane shook his head, “No, that's not what's at play here. She wouldn't hide on her own,” Kane paused, quickly flipping through his phone. “Here's her mother, from my findings she seems to cherish her more than anything. She wouldn't be so foolish to hide because of a mate bond.” Kane explained, pushing the phone to my eye level.
At the moment he called her foolish, my wolf kicked up inside of me defensively. “That's your future Luna, show some respect when talking about her!” My voice came out stern than I intended.
Kane chuckled, patting me on the shoulder. “You know I can be blunt sometimes, pardon me Alpha.”
I nodded, my face expressionless. It was true Kane can be blunt most of the time. He never hide his feelings no matter who he was talking to. Even in the face of danger, he'd still speak his mind. One of the things that made me admire him.
“So who do you think may be hiding her?” I folded my arms, an inquisitive look plastered on my face. “Alpha Luke?”
“No, he had everything to lose if he was the one hiding her.”
“Jake then? He seemed quite suspicious, must be him.” I concluded, drawing up a plan in my head to make Jake pay.
But Kane had a contrary opinion. “We can't be too sure. I highly doubt it, what would he stand for gain if he do that?”
“You should find that out, everything about him reeks mischief.” I commanded, remembering the young man's action in the meeting.
“Rest assured I'd do that Alpha, but right now, we should head to the meeting. We are running a little late.” Kane stood up, glancing at his wristwatch.
***************
When Kane and I got to the front of the meeting hall, Luke's Theta was waiting for us outside. The hall was a grand one that span across some feets wide with huge pillars supporting it.
Immediately we get in, everywhere turn silent and the officials rise to their feet. There were two large chairs provided as the head chairs, Luke was already sitting in one. The Theta directed me to sit on the other one.
“Let's begin,” Kane spoke out, settling beside me.
I looked at the faces of each of the officials as they introduced themselves. I could sense a little nervousness in them but I didn't dwell on that too much. My mind was filled with another issue entirely—my mate.
I had been restless the whole of the night, no thanks to my wolf, Gaya. I had only managed to sleep in the early hours of the morning. That was when I successfully shut Gaya out.
“Alpha Dylan, what's your conclusion on the signing procedures?” Kane's voice brought me out of my thoughts.
I raised my heads up and met Alpha Luke's face. He seems to be restless from where he sat. His eyes were darting around the room. Was he afraid of the decision I'd made towards the deal. I chuckled within myself.
“Let's get this settled, I have other important matters to attend to,” I nodded to Kane beside me and he handed me some documents, “your pack take forty percent of the proceeds and sixty belongs to mine.”
“What? Forty percent!” One of the officials gasped.
“I thought Alpha said he's offering only thirty percent.” Another whispered, eyeing Luke as if he's a common criminal.
I wish I could smack some senses into them but I have no time for that right now. “I offered thirty percent before, I just changed my mind.” I cleared the air and the noise went down.
“Alpha, how come your pack officials are not disciplined enough to keep shut during a meeting.” I threw a disapproving gaze towards Luke.
He instantly cleared his throat and say,
“They just found it hard to believe you are actually offering the forty percent, initially you offered thirty percent.”
“I could take it back to thirty then,”
Most of the officials gasped and started pleading but I have no intention of reverting back to thirty percent. I was just pulling their legs.
“Please don't do that Alpha, I apologize for my officials uncultured attitude. Thank you for this deal” Luke responded swiftly.
After we both signed the paperwork, I decided to ask about Jake, “I didn't see your brother here today.”
“He's not here, he should be in school right now.”
“And about my…” I was saying when a voice bursted into the room.
“Alpha, I have something urgent to report.”
Damon rushed in, instantly getting everyone's attention. I was immediately surprised seeing him here. Damon is my Gamma and hadn't come with me to this pack. I left him in charge of all pack matters.
“What is it?” My attention was instantly focused on him, seeing the urgency in which he spoke.
He brought his head closer to my ears and my mood suddenly dampen. I fisted my hands beside me feeling the urge to snap some necks.
“We have to leave now,” I declared, facing Alpha Luke. “An urgent matter needs my attention. Don't forget what we discussed before.” I regarded him briefly then turn to leave.
