Chapter 8

1558 Words
Ava's POV I jerked up suddenly, my eyes scanning around the dark prison. I didn't know for how long I've slept nor do I know what time it was. My stomach rumbled from hunger and my eyes feel heavy despite I just woke up. I try to lift myself, maybe I could call on the guards to help with a little food but just as I try standing, I fell back on the ground, my head hitting the wall beside me. “Please… any..y,.one there.” My words came out slurred. No answer came. My stomach were burning, but the bruises on my body burned even harder. I try to numb the pain, summoning all my inner strength but that didn't work. Even my wolf seem to have desert me now. I'm alone in this! I breathed in and out, trying to inhale as much oxygen as I can but even that cost me to exert a lot of energy. Damn it! Being in hell would be better than this unfortunate place. This place must have built for the most hardened criminals. I couldn't see around me but I know definitely, there’s no window in this God forsaken place. The air felt too clogged to point otherwise. This isn't just a random prison. No wolf can survive this place for long. I breathed in and out again, trying to steal as much oxygen as I can. But even that did little or nothing to provide the most prized asset I needed. My throat was parched and dry, I could do anything for even a drop of water right now. I forced myself off the wall, then tried to remove my cloth, but the pain that seared through my back made me stop. I remembered all too well, when the guards had thrown me into the prison, they had flogged me severally with a wire that seem to have a sharp edge. ‘Those cowards!’ I cursed inside of me as their evil grins appeared somewhere in my head. I must have pass out from the intense pain. And they must have brought me here to this hell. My mind raced as I thought of the possibilities of them leaving me to die. No way! I can't die here in this dark, forsaken place. I have to find one way or the other to get out of here. I still have much more to live for. My mother, being the number one reason, and I'd want to see the look on Layla's face when she see me defy death. With a sudden rush of determination, I sprang up once again. This time, making sure to numb the pain. After I manage to drag a few steps, I stumbled upon a wall of metal. This must be the gate. ‘There must be a lock somewhere, hopefully I'm able to get it opened.’ I fumbled around with my hands, but that seem to be a waste of my waning strength. I banged on it, then shake it hard, making sure I could be heard by people from far away. I'm not sure how long I keep that up but I collapsed on the floor after my strength had wane out. I didn't know for how long I was on the ground, but the next thing I feel was a hand jerking me up. “You dare to cause a nuisance here, you will pay for your insolence bitch.” Although, my body feel so weak, I could still recognize the voice of one of the guards as he hoisted me up. “W-water, please.” I begged as I felt myself being dragged by the guard. A dark chuckle escaped his lips as he continued dragging me. “You have to earn it, prove yourself useful to earn it.” Earn it? What the hell does that even mean? These questions rolled in my head but I was too worn out to ask the guard. Even with my half closed eyes, I noticed the environment has changed. I almost feel blinded by the light here. The air also flowed freely compared to the choking nature from the hole I was held. Suddenly, I feel myself being hoisted by the guard, my blouse tearing in the process. My upper body became visible, revealing some part of my chest. I sat down on the ground, my eyes had now adjusted to the illumination. The guard was now standing just a few feets away from me. “Firstly,” he began, closing the gap between us. “You have to get yourself useful to earn even a drop of air in here.” I forced myself to look at his face, there was a dark scowl that spoke of all the ill intentions running in his head. “I'm sure she have something to offer us,” I looked sideways to see another guard in the corner of the room. “Don't you?” He asked licking his lips lustfully. I feel my stomach tighten as I begin to understand their intentions. A pang of dread suddenly rose in my heart. The guard directly in front of me was already loosing his pants. “Please, don't do this.” I muttered, but the evil man only chuckled. “Harold, wait.” I heard the other guard say, “I wouldn't want the b***h passing out when I'm not yet satisfied, let's give her some water.” The one called Harold seems to think for a while, his eyes glued to my body. “Fine, I wouldn't want the b***h killing the fun too.” He responded, and quickly went across the table in the room. He returned to me with a bottle of water in hand. He opened the bottle and brought it to my lips and I drank it greedily, but he soon took it away from my mouth. Even my body appreciated the few drops that passed my throat as I now feel a little rejuvenated. “Now strip!” The guard in front of me commanded after dropping the bottle of water. I looked at him defiantly, my eyes summing him up all over. “Are you deaf?” I clenched my fist, then pinned my gaze hard on him before giving him a glare. I wasn't about to let this cowards have their way with me. I would rather die than have that happen. “Maybe she wants it the old fashioned way.” The other guard scoffed, his hands folded on his chest. The guard in front of me nodded, a devilish smile now plastered on his lips. Suddenly, he charged straight at me and I fell backwards, my back now pinned to the ground. His weight was pressed tightly on me. His hands reached for my blouse, trying to shred it off my body but I fought back with all the energy left in me. One of his hands hit me hard on my cheeks, almost knocking the breath out of me. But I forced myself to ignore the pain. Instead, I let rage consume me. With a sudden burst of energy, I arched my knees and kicked him hard on the groin. The impact made him cry out and he rolled off my body. “b***h, now I have no choice but to kill you.” The other guard said after seeing what I did to his partner. He was now charging at me, a hammer in hand. I closed my eyes, willing myself to fate. There was no way I could deal with this one. Not with all my energy seeped out from the previous encounter. Just when I expect to feel the hammer crush hard on my skull, the door pushed open and a voice reverberated across the room. “What the hell is going on here?” I opened my eyes to see the guard rooted to his feet, the hammer just a few inches from my skull. A sigh of relief escaped my lips. That was almost a close call to death. “Melvin, I asked what is going on here!” The man asked again and I looked up to see he was the guard Layla had settled the other day. “She attacked Harold,” he answered pointing to the other guard on the ground who was still writhing in pain. “I have to do something before she could kill him.” He lied, pointing accusingly at me. I looked at the man who had just come in, his eyes was focused on me. He appeared to be a superior to the other guards. I didn't bother to explain or clarify the i***t had just lie. I knew there was no point doing that. After all, they say birds of a flock always fall together. I'm sure he wouldn't be any different from them. “Don't take decisions without my consent,” he warned, throwing the one called Melvin a disapproving look. “Now, return her back. Lady Layla would be coming to see her soon.” He commanded and the other guard immediately carried out his instructions, dragging me back to the hellhole. There was only one thoughts in my head as he began to drag me back. I have to deal with the obnoxious Layla yet again!
