Ava's POV
My heart pounded in my chest as I bolted out of Alpha Luke's office.
I didn't know what to think at the moment as my head was completely hazy of thoughts.
Alpha Dylan, the handsome devil was my mate? Or was it another prank by the moon goddess?
A high ranking wolf like him would never want me. He'd reject me without another glance. I wouldn't even bother to be rejected, his loud growl says it all.
I stood at a corner in the pack house for a moment, my hands placed on the wall. The realization of what had happened was sinking into my head.
Why does my life have to be so messed up?
Why does the moon goddess choose to taunt me this way? And to think Jake was there watching it all created a sick feeling inside of me.
That arrogant man would never choose an Omega like me. His loud growl was a sign he would reject me without a second glance.
I cleaned my eyes as I turned the last bend around the inner courtyard. I didn't want pack members seeing the tears that had welled in my eyes. The last thing I wanted now is anyone throwing pitiful glances at me. I hate being in that position.
Just as I made another bend around the courtyard, I bumped into a wall and I suddenly stopped in my tracks.
“Are you blind?”
I looked up to see Layla scowling down at me.
“Damn! Not today.” I muttered under my breath. Before I know, I felt something sting my face.
“Learn to speak to your superiors with respect, b***h!” Layla sneered, giving me a disgusted look.
My mouth hung open as I stared at Layla's hand still hanging in the air. She was with some men I didn't recognize. I brought my hand to my cheeks, not believing this loathsome woman before me just hit me. But her hands still burned hard on my cheeks.
My stomach rumbled at her insolence. I try to block out her curses from my head but that seems to be an herculean task.
“Stupid girl, did you understand what I just said?” She lashed at me, but I didn't gave her a response.
I turned around to leave, not wanting to let Layla get to me. I've had enough for today. If it was any other day or it was any other person I'd have deal with such person in my own way.
After taking some steps, I felt a hand tug at my hairs, drawing me back forcefully to my earlier position. The pain from the sudden pull went into my brain and I yelped out.
“You don't leave while I'm talking to you.” Layla snapped, her hands still on my hairs.
I wrench off her hand from my hairs and turned to face her, my eyes glowing in fury.
“I have tried to play cool with you but I won't be that foolish next time you lay a finger on me,” I spat, eyeing her then added, “FOOL!”
She stood back for a second, probably too shocked I could say something like that to her, but I don't care anymore. When people push you to your limit, you have to unleash the beast in you.
I have never like it when people in the higher social ladder bully the less fortunate ones. In fact, I have loathed it and even promised I wouldn't let myself be a victim of such circumstances.
“Did you just call me a fool?” Layla finally asked in disbelief, her tone rising from pain. “A stupid Omega like you dare insult me.”
She charged for my cheeks once again but this time I saw it coming, I blocked her hand just in time, holding it in the air then push her back. She staggered backwards then dramatically fell on the ground.
She pointed accusingly at me, her voice coming out in sobs. “Y-you, how just lay a hand on yo…ur future Luna.” Her voice breaks as she tried to get up.
The guards seems to be shocked at the turn of events. I couldn't care less by the outcome of my actions. I looked down at Layla, she was still faking a sob from her position. Two of the guards were trying to help her up but she was faking being hurt.
I scoffed at her antics and turned to leave the scene when I heard her voice.
“Seize her!” Layla commanded, making me stop in my tracks.
I turned back I and could see the conflicting look on the guards face. They seem hesitant to carry out her orders.
“If you don't seize her this minute,” Layla paused giving me a scowl from where she now stood. “I will have Luke strip you all of your jobs.”
Layla's threat seem to immediately spring the guards into actions as the four of them suddenly charge for me. I looked straight into Layla's eyes, a victorious smile seem to creep up her lips.
“If you lick my boots this instance and beg,” Layla said, bringing her mouth to my ears, “maybe I might just be merciful enough not to have you rot in jail.”
I scoffed, then my lips formed into a smile. I regarded her from head to toe, making sure she observed the defiance in my eyes. “Never will that happen, not even in your wildest dreams.”
Her mouth hung open briefly as she observed me. Then a smile crept up her lips but before I could understand what was happening, her hands landed on my cheeks.
The pain seared through my cheeks and I fought to set myself free, but the guards firm hands only tightened. The slap burned harder than the first making my face instantly red.
“Let's see how long you can keep up with your fat attitude,” She paused, then turned to face the guards. “Go lock the b***h away.”
I clenched my teeth and forced myself to remain on the spot as the guards tried to drag me, “You can only try, but a stupid bully like you only hide behind your status to punish innocent people. Without all the power, you aren't worth a dime.”
I spat at Layla as the guards begin to successfully drag me away.
“Wait.” The guards stopped in their tracks after hearing Layla's voice.
Layla strolled closer and handed a bag to the eldest of them. The bag seems to be full of cash as the guard was already grinning.
‘Can this b***h go any lower?’ I scoffed inside of me.
“Dag, I want her taken care of.” Layla instructed, her eyes fixed on me. “Make sure she experiences hell and your reward will be massive.” She winked at the guard before sauntering off.
