(Isaac POV)
"So you won't come in the evening round?" Madison asked me as I shook my head while chewing my food.
"I am sorry. I have a family function I need to get to" I said as she frowned but still nodded.
It has been a week since I met Madison. She was such an innocent girl who has a fun personality. We have lunch whenever I am not held up with my duty. But even if that happens we find time to meet each other.
Either it will be in the corridors or it will be in my rounds. Madison starts to call it destiny and secretly I felt like it too.
Today I won't be going for my usual round since I am taking an afternoon left. The party is in the evening and I needed to get ready and pick up my parents. It's a mafia tradition that we should always go as a family. If the son or daughter of the family is not married or has no date then they should accompany their parents. I prefer going with parents because taking anyone as my date is the last thing on my mind.
"Ok. Then I will see you tomorrow?" she asked as I nodded with a smile.
"Of course. And you have my number, you can call or text if you have an emergency" I said as she beamed at me.
"Ok! I will text you then!" she said as I laughed taking in my burger.
Yea, I am having a healthy lunch.
Once we are done with our lunch, I made way to my Office. Usually, since I don't have afternoon lunch, I go home and have them. But I wanted to see Madison before I go. She will be wondering where I will go.
"Are you going to the birthday, Isaac?" Margaret asked coming into my office.
Margaret was the daughter of a smaller mafia family but since we both are best friends, I made a business alliance with her family.
"Yes. You know how it is. All of us should go, Maggie" I said as she nodded.
She watched as I packed my bag and got ready to go. I raised my eyebrow at her as she shrugs. I knew she wanted to ask me something.
"What is it?" I asked as she sighed.
"You had lunch with her today," she said as I nod my head.
"Yes I did," I said as she stared at me.
"You don't usually do that. You go early home when you have functions to attend" she said as I shrug.
"So?" I asked as she walked to me.
"You like her," she said as I looked at her with a raised eyebrow.
"What do you mean?" I asked her as she sat on the table.
"Isaac, I know you for so long. You changed a lot after you met her. I mean, sitting in the common room and eating? I never ever see you go to a commoner area" she said as I frown.
"That doesn’t mean anything," I said as she huffed at me.
"Yes right. That means everything. Isaac, who are you lying to? Yourself?" she asked as I was starting to get pissed off.
"Margaret, you know I won't date anyone related to work," I said as she stared at me. I took stern and made sure my eyes were void as she stared more.
"Fine. I will see you at the function" she said to me as she waved her hand and walked out.
After that, I made my way home. I was so frustrated after the talk with Maggie. Why does she have to ruin everything?
She knows I will not date anyone related to work. She is so irritating.
Madison is special to me. Yes. But it is not like or anything like that. She is a good company and a good friend. She likes to be around me and since I don't feel irritated, I don't tell her off.
After I dressed in my expensive suit, making sure my cuffs and collar were beautifully laid, I made way to my family mansion. I had a bit of wine to ease my mood since I was irritated.
After I pick up my parents I made way to the family gathering.
"Happy birthday, Samuel," I said as I handed him a gold wrapped present. He thanked me and put it with a bunch of other presents before smiling at me wide.
"Let's grab some beer," some of my mafia friends told as I nod. Definitely need a beer to calm down my nerves.
I was on my 2nd beer listening to my friends rant about their boring mafia business when I got a text. Taking out the phone I chuckled at the message.
'It is not a message but just thought of texting. PS: If you are busy you don't have to reply!' it said.
'Hello to you too, Margaret' I typed back. Almost immediately she messaged back.
'I hope I didn't disturb'
'Not at all. I was bored hearing my friends talking about business. I am a sucker at that'
'Oh. I see. Did you take leave to go out with friends?'
'No, family function. Did you eat dinner?'
'Yes. Just had dinner'
"Are you texting your girlfriend?" James, one of my friends asked as I looked up from the phone.
"You were smiling hard," he said as I cleared my throat and quickly text her reply before switching off the phone.
"No, I wasn't," I said as they looked at me with a smirk.
"Come on. Tell us the details" he said as I rolled my eyes.
"Tell you guys what?" a familiar voice came as I turned.
"Hai, Kat," I said as my ex-girlfriend sat next to me.
"Hey, Mags," I said as she sat next to her boyfriend Marcus.
"He has a girlfriend," James said as Kat's eyes widen.
"You do?" she asked as she turned to me.
"No, I don't," I said as James laughed.
"Oh, then your crush," he said as I glared at him.
"She is a girl I met from the hospital. My patient's daughter. You know I don't" I said but was cut off by him.
"Yes yes. We know. You don't date anyone related to work. Heard it a zillion times" James said as I roll my eyes.
"It's his famous line" Marcus, my other friends said before my notification boomed.
'I have to go help my mom in preparing her bed. I will talk to you tomorrow. Good night and don't drink much' she typed and I couldn’t help but laugh.
"I told you, he is talking to his crush!" James shouted as groaned and stood up.
I looked at him before my eyes went to Maggie who was silently staring at me.
"Enough alcohol for me," I said as James laughed.
"Because she told you?" he asked as I rolled my eyes.
"No, because I am driving," I said as I walked off.
Why is everyone trying to annoy me?
