I was an orphan, not really sure why, but I hung out in an orphanage.
There were all sorts of folks there; we were a diverse bunch.
An elf's took care of us, treating us like family, so nice it always brings a smile to my face.
I recall this one time when we were younger, this big ol' ogre came at us - he must have been at least 8 feet tall, a real meanie.
Man, your breath is so foul, it wiped out a whole field of flowers.
Oh, but we had actually planted those ourselves, mind you, you should find a whole bunch of mint or a crate full of them.
You think you can make fun of me? Well, guess what, I'll wipe you out first, you little girl.
He yelled and started walking closer, waving his club around. That breath will kill me before you do," she exclaimed, covering her nose and sprinting towards the other orphans. They looked terrified, unsure of what to do. They had heard tales of ogres, but could never have imagined this. "We have to go."
Just as they were about to flee, more ogres appeared. It was clear how primitive they were, dressed in basic clothing and wielding clubs. That day, we were all filled with fear, but I especially remember how terrible it smelled.
"How old were you?" Ruby asked.
"I was fourteen years old, Ruby," Kitten replied.
"Kitten, you are so brave. I may be new here at the orphanage, but I'm glad you're here to help," Ruby said.
Kitten thought to herself, "Yeah, Ruby is new, but that was four years ago when that man saved us."
"Is everything okay, Kitten?" Ruby inquired.
"Yes, it's fine. Now, let me tell you about the man who saved us," Kitten said.
She pondered how to explain it. "Listen, he was six feet tall and had pure white hair. His eyes were silver and possessed a mystical energy. However, he wasn't much of a dresser – just a white shirt, black pants, boots, and a brown cloak.
Oh, he sounds so interesting. I want the chance to meet him."
"Well, Ruby, he resides within the confines of the forbidden forest, an area off-limits to all."
"Why is that the case, Kitten?"
Ruby displayed a look of astonishment, contemplating the identity of this individual, questioning his presence and the authorization to inhabit the restricted region.
"Well, Ruby, the presence of ghastly creatures and the menacing big bad wolf deters anyone from venturing there."
"But truth be told, Kitten, I find your cloak to be more lovely . His, on the other hand, appears unattractive."
"Why do you keep your face covered with that hood.
Kitten removed her hood, revealing her cascading red locks, adorable feline ears, and an overall aura of innocence in her emerald gaze.
"You are so beautiful, Kitten."
"I appreciate your kind words, Ruby."
"Now, allow me to continue with the story. This man arrived, and the sequence of events was truly remarkable. An ogre assailed him, causing a colossal dust cloud that obstructed our view.
They all commenced swinging their clubs, and there seemed to be no possible chance of survival for anyone present. Eventually, they ceased and burst into laughter, but the silence suddenly fell amidst the cloud of dust. An ogre charged at us, and fear engulfed each one of us. Despite my trembling knees, I bravely stepped forward. The ogre seized me, and inquired, 'What did you do, kitten?' I responded, 'There was nothing I could do, Ruby, but miraculously that man managed to stop him. I do not know how.'"
"The wise individuals from the council of elves arrived. One of the wise ones pronounced, 'He is back - the big bad wolf himself.' Astonishingly, he did not resemble a wolf or a monster, but instead appeared kind and amazing. We had all heard tales of the Big Bad Wolf - a monster, an outcast, a killer. Yet, there he was, saving us. I was finally free from the clutches of the ogre. The ogre bellowed, 'Kill him, I cannot move!' The man smiled and stated, 'You haven't realized it yet, have you?'"
"The ogre looked around, as did all of us, and we discovered that they were all dead. The ogre had been defeated with ease. He disappeared that day, along with the remaining ogre. It has now been four years since that moment, when I was only fourteen years old."
"'So, you are eighteen now, kitten. Why haven't you left?' questioned Ruby. I replied, 'Because there is so much to do in order to take care of all of you, and I feel the need to give back in any way I can.'"
"'Alright, Ruby, now it is time to return home.' Kitten and Ruby strolled through the village together, encountering many friendly individuals. They perused the various shops and savored the sights as much as they could."
"Later that night, they arrived back at the orphanage and began preparing for bed. Ruby expressed her gratitude to Kitten for sharing the story, admitting, 'I know I am new here, but I do not really have any friends.' I reassured her, 'You are mistaken, Ruby. We are friends.' Ruby beamed with immense joy and gratitude, thanking me profusely."
"I embraced Ruby and comforted her, assuring her that she would have plenty of friends. 'Now, get some sleep, Ruby.' I let go of Ruby's embrace, and we both retreated to our individual rooms for the night."
"Suddenly, Kitten was jolted awake by a loud bang outside. She hurried toward her window and could not believe her eyes: the village was engulfed in flames. 'This is not right. Why is there fire?'
