Chapter Six - Savages Rule Mrs. Winchell walked over to her son and swung her hand as she hit Myles across his cheeks in a quick motion. Henry stood there, stunned. Myles looked away from his mother for a few seconds before he locked gaze with his mother. "How dare you stand Vanessa up yesterday? Lady Marcia was so mad yesterday, Myles. How dare you?" She yelled angrily at Myles. "Are you done or you're going to hit me again?" She went pale at the fact that her son had talked back at her. "You are talking back at me?" "Henry, show her the way out, I have to go to work," Myles said calmly and went into his bedroom to dress up. He was driven silently to his office. He was calm today and he replied Henry with either a nod or he shook his head. "Let me meet Frank as soon as possible." "He's gone to the college. He has his day off remember?" "College?" "Yes." It hit Myles. He remembered that Danger mentioned that Frank was her helper. He pushed the thought aside. "Your mother asked me about the reason for your change of attitude, Myles. She wants me to keep a very close eye on you." "You can report whatever you want. What she has to understand is that I'm twenty-six and I'm not a kid anymore. She shouldn't be yelling at me like that." "Alright. But is that girl the reason?" Myles said nothing, he continued to look outside the sleek car. "Find her for me, Henry. Can you bring her to my office? I want to have a conversation with her please," Myles finally said, startling Henry. "What?" "Yes. I want to know why she left without even a word. Please." *** "Class is dismissed." Professor Frank dismissed his class as the students scrammed away. Diana was waiting for him outside his class. She knew that Sir Frank was going to scold her and ask about Myles so she wanted to come and clear things. Frank stood there until the last person left the class. Diana walked over. "Professor, I can explain....." "I'm not going to meddle in your private life, Diana. What I want you to know is that you need to know you're too young to be doing adult things. In fact, you should join the class and learn something." "No. I won't anymore, please I want to continue working." "Why? Did someone talk you out of this?" "No, but I made the decision on my own. Thank you for everything, then." Frank couldn't say anything. "Alright but if you want to come back, you're free to." The college was a very small one which educated the young in the slums and that was where Frank worked. "I hope you haven't forgotten your dreams, Diana?" She shook her head. "Never." "Danger?" A small girl ran inside, interrupting them. "They still call you that?" Frank asked in disbelief and Diana shrugged. "What is it?" "Someone's looking for you down there." "Really?" "Yes, Danger. He owns a very posh car." Diana frowned. "It might be Myles. I'd like to warn you about the Winchell's, Diana. They are very powerful and they despise people of your caliber, no offense." "Not at all, professor. I understand. And I'll say that there's nothing between me and their son. Whatever it was, it's over." She smiled and excused herself. She followed Tito downstairs and she saw the black posh car with a young man waiting beside it. The students were watching. She hurried there. Henry scanned her from head to toe. She was in a black faded crop shirt and faded shorts. Her black hair was in a messy bun and her whole appearance screamed poverty but Henry couldn't deny the fact that in this rags, the Danger girl was beautiful with flawless skin and a cute face. She had a black handbag around her neck, crossing over her chest which made her look fierce and poised. "Are you looking for me?" Henry scanned her one more time before he nodded with a smile. "What do you want?" "Myles sent me. I'm his personal bodyguard and friend. I'm Henry." "What does he want?" Diana asked, ignoring the way her heart skipped a beat when the guy mentioned Myles name. "He wants to see you, Miss Diana," Henry said politely. "Well, I don't want to," Diana stuttered, looking away. She was scared that it was a trap to have her arrested. "It's important he speaks with you, Miss. It won't take long." "Where will you take me?" "Considering your appearance right now, you can't go to his office looking like this so...... " "That's it, I'm not going anywhere, tell him to leave me alone." Diana stomped off but Henry caught up with her quickly, blocking her escape route. "I'm not trying to insult you, I just want to know if you can change into something better." "No. I have nothing like that." "Then can you wait for him in his suite?" Diana weighed the chances. If she refused this offer and walk away, she'll have to go and work before she'll be able to buy herself dinner but if she goes to Myles suite, there'll be food to eat and to save for tomorrow. "I'll take that option, then." Henry smiled and they went back to the car. He opened the front door for her and she got in. He ran to the driver's seat, driving away. Diana thought of what Myles wanted to talk about. She didn't take the camera, that's for sure so she can defend herself there. The drive to the other side of the city was long and Diana wanted so much to turn on the radio or sing because the silence was too much. Henry's phone rang which broke the silence. "Hello, yes, I did. I'm taking her to your suite so when you're done at the office you can come to speak with her." "No, bring her straight to my office, Henry. I want to see her here," Myles said vehemently. "But?" "Bring her here. Did you have a hard time convincing her?" Myles asked curiously. "Yes. She didn't want to come at first." Henry threw her a look before looking ahead. "Alright, I'm on my way there." "What? What about your meeting with the board?" "I've postponed it already," Myles laughed. Henry rolled his eyes at him and said goodbye. "Please stop the car, Henry," Diana said suddenly. Henry frowned but stopped anyway. "What's wrong?" "I need to get something inside that store, please." Henry nodded and let her get down. He saw her go inside. He sat there for a couple of minutes but she wasn't coming out. He got down and entered the small mart. "Please do you know where the short girl with long hair, went?" Henry asked the cashier when he couldn't find Diana around. "Oh, she asked for the back door and went that way. Why?" "What?" Henry was surprised. He looked around, still baffled. Why would she run away like that? He called Myles finally when he couldn't find her anywhere the busy place. "What's it, Henry?" "She ran away, Myles Winchell. That savage girl ran away." ***
