Chapter 3

735 Words
Sky Pov I came home late. It was never a new thing in my life. After my encounter with Max at the shop, I left to fetch the kids and drop them hope while giving them their ready to be heated dinner. I left again to continue my work. I open the bedroom door and headed straight to the shower. I sigh as the hot water sprinkles my back. I needed money. I wanted the twins to continue studying. It's the only thing I can give them after all, well, as you can all see; I don't have anything to call my own. Maybe I do, but it's just an old Acer laptop I use for college and an old phone. Should I sell it? Nah. No one will get interested plus, I kind of need this too much. I stepped out of the shower after I dressed in my pajama pants and an old cotton shirt. Everything about me is old. Not that I could afford anything though. I noticed Alexon standing near the door with a blanket around him. I approached him and picked him up. He stared at me tiredly. "What's wrong baby?" I ask. "My tummy aches daddy. I'm hungry." He smiled sheepishly when I heard his stomach grumble. I put him down and looked for food in the ref. I found a-day-old bread and eggs in the dinner compartment I reserved. I opened the pack and laid it on the plate. I scrambled the eggs and cooked them. I hand half of the food to Alexon and begin to eat mine. I watch him happily devour the food. I smiled sadly. If only I have a better job, they'll be in better shape. I fell a stray tear ran down my face. I vigorously wiped them but they keep on running down. "Daddy? What's wrong? Does your tummy hurt?" He asked while scooting closer to me. I chuckle and pinch his nose. "No silly, I'm just happy the eggs didn't burn." He let out a small laugh and breathes a yawn. I kiss his forehead and carried him to the bed that we've been sharing. I tuck him in and cover myself. This is really depressing. I don't have anyone to help me except for Marie, and she has her own family. She'd done enough for me and the kids. I can't ask for more than her taking care of Alexon every day. And the kid's birthday is coming up. I was too lost in thought until I found myself in the dark abyss of my sleep. - - - - I wake up early to the sound of banging on my door. The boys are still fast asleep as I make my way to the door and open it to find my landlady. "Your rent is up, Young man." Yeah, the b***h. She raise her brows at me as I mouthed an "oh" "Umm, you see Madame, paycheck still a few days away and I'm kind of low on funds." I let out a nervous laugh. "And I don't see any of that as my problem now is it?" she put her hand on her hip. Like Ursula is she? "Please please please Madame, give me some time." I used all of my charms and beg. "I'll pay you in time next month. Please." She let out a sigh of defeat making me fist pump and do the happy dance. "A week is all I can give. Pay me in a week or you can pack and leave." She huff and turns around. I close the door and sank low to the floor. Why does the world need to pour this on me at once? I rub my face with both my hand and rose up. Since its Saturday, I cooked food for the kids before leaving. I only have a class today so I could take my time and the library only open for a few hours on weekends. I wake them up and give them a bath before feeding them. I'm aware of the risks of leaving them alone but I need to work or we'll starve. And I need to find money for these bitches clawing my back. I turned the TV on and gave them money to buy lunch at the nearby convenience. I head to the school and my life for the day begins.
