CHAP 12

Every heartbeat in my chest is powerful. In just a few minutes, the expected guests will arrive at the mansion. I almost went crazy with the possible scenes that could happen during their meeting. "You should calm down," said Miro from my side, perhaps noticing my anxiety. I rolled my eyes. Yes, they assured me that they wouldn't leave me with Seniorito, but what if their guests get mad? If they bite, I will lose. What could even my teeth do against their sharp fangs, anyway? "Go to your room." My thoughts were interrupted when Seniorito came to the living room, where Miro and I were. Manang was busy in the kitchen preparing; she didn't ask me to help anymore because she said she could handle it alone, and I didn't bother anymore. Later, I might see blood there; I will run in no time. I suddenly raised my eyes to Seniorito, who had a serious look at me. "Yes?" "Go to your bedroom. Then go out after the meeting," he clarified. "Alpha—" Miro's defiant call was cut off when Seniorito turned his gaze to him, seemingly telling Miro not to interfere anymore. "B-But why?" I interjected to get his attention again. "I mean... you said you needed me?" I added. I felt my cheeks heat up afterwards. I want to slap myself because I'm jumping more and more into disaster. In fact, I should have just obeyed and not asked any more questions because his wishes were in my favor. "I don't need to explain; just leave," he said coldly. I blinked a few times while looking at him, and I felt a little pain in my chest when he sent me away. I can't figure out why. Disappointment? Dissatisfaction? I do not know. "Okay," I said briefly, and I completely stood up from my seat. I looked at him once before I started walking away. My steps were heavy; I didn't know, but I hoped he would call me back, but that didn't happen. I smiled bitterly as I closed my bedroom door. He doesn't really need me. I lay dumbfounded on my bed. It's funny because I'm still thinking about something, but the truth is that my brain is blank. I tried to close my eyes to take a nap, but sleep never came. I finally sighed and got up. I'm restless. What's with the sudden change? I want to take a peek. I'm curious. I want to stand beside Seniorito while he talks to their kind, but... I also thought that it might be better if I wasn't there. Not because he doesn't like me or I fear him, but because I'm a mortal. I'm not like them, far from it. It was crazy because I felt like I didn't really fit in there. A knock interrupted my chaotic thoughts. I frowned and looked in the direction of my door when it slowly opened. Miro's poker face was immediately exposed to me. I couldn't help but glare at him. "What?" I uttered. "Let's go," he said, which surprised me. "It's your decision. That's not Seniorito's order, right?" I struggled to say. Damn this, awoo awoo. I almost hoped, but luckily I'm smart. He closed his eyes and massaged his temples. "Are you coming or not?" "Why, and I was given an ultimatum? If I get out, I'm dead." He took a deep breath. "He truly needs you there, and I'll take the responsibility if you come with us," he stated. "I could handle his rage, but I couldn't take the risk of this meeting. You understand me, right?" he added. I was silenced by his seriousness. There was his worry and concern for Seniorito. I don't know if it's because he's a beta or because he's his brother that he doesn't want Cleon to be harmed. "You're sure you would take the blame?" I said as I stood up. A ghostly smile appeared on his lips. "I don't break my word." "It should be, because if you do, you're the one I'm going to slaughter." I let out a sigh before walking toward him. "Anyway, may I know what kind of awoo awoo is coming?" He winced slightly at my question. "They are the Epsilons." "Epsilons? Why are there so many types, you're all barking the same way?" I uttered straight. He immediately looked at me. "Obviously, because we are a pack," he said. "Like you mortals, those who lead you also have different ranks. In a barangay, in a district, in a country. Epsilons are within the highest range of the pack's middle rank; they are the old werewolves. Young Epsilons will usually make Gamma, Beta, or even an Alpha later in life. Our alpha holds the highest rule, but we still respect it. That's why meetings are held to maintain order in our area. Like what I've said before, there could be trouble—an invasion—if other packs find out about Alpha's situation. I snorted and then nodded in understanding. "They are already here. Are you coming?" His manner is serious. My forehead creased. "You are too frank. Are you really like that?" "Do I still need to answer that?" he replied back. I just winced, even though my chest started heaving with nervousness. "You go first; I'll follow. I'll have a breathing exercise first." He let out a loud breath that seemed to end the hope for me to be serious and then shook his head. "Okay. Don't take too long." I want to glare at him and tell him that I'm serious about this situation; if that's nonsense, why did I agree with him? He turned his back on me and walked away. I remained standing in my room while facing my door. I prepared myself again and again. "Okay, Faraiah. You have nothing else to do but go with Seniorito. Keep your mouth shut because they might bite you. Behave, okay?" I talked to myself. "Just imagine you're in a stage play. You're the tree on the side, that's all." I slapped my forehead as I grunted. I'm going crazy! I stayed at my place for a few more minutes. The truth is that I'm not that afraid of visitors; I'm more nervous about Seniorito's reaction if I go. I don't want him to kick me out a second time. Well, wish me luck, hello kitty. I bit my bottom lip and started to move my legs out of the room. My eyes immediately searched, and I gradually heard them as I approached the office of the mansion. When I finally reached it, Seniorito's serious speech dawned on me. There were three old werewolves at the table; there was also a woman, and a man with his back to my place. Seniorito and I met eyes which made him stop talking. Everyone's attention was focused on me. "A mortal?" the woman asked with raised eyebrows. She's beautiful. That's all I can say. I felt diminished because there was a trace of power in her aura. Senior cleared his throat and continued talking. "Don't mind her; she's my new maid," he said coldly. I noticed the gentle turning of the man who had turned his back on me earlier. My breathing hitched when our eyes met. I got chills, and I don't know why. I don't know, but his eyes are familiar. A smirk flashed on his lips. "Your maid is beautiful." "You are here for the meeting. Don't mess with my people, Konnor," Seniorito said, a hint of threat in his tone. "Come here," he said after looking at me. I swallowed involuntarily and shakily walked towards his place, behind him, where Miro was also there. "Chill. I'm not doing anything. I just complimented her," the man said, laughing. Even though I couldn't see Senior's face, I noticed the tension in his hand on the cup he was holding. "Who is he? I thought only old people would be here?" I whispered to Miro. "He's an Alpha of the other pack," he replied sparingly. My eyes narrowed in surprise. Why is he involved in this? Even though I wanted to ask more, I was afraid to speak because there was a possibility that everyone could hear me. "So, back to what we are talking about. Why did you just have this meeting now?" I don't know, but I don't trust him. Besides being the leader of a different pack, his aura has a different effect on me. I couldn't help but stare at him. "I just finished some things," replied Senior sparingly, and he drank from his cup. I stood up properly when I noticed a slight tremor there. Is he okay? The guy chuckled. "It's been a while since you fixed it." My jaw tensed at the tone of the man's speech. I don't know, but it looks like he deliberately annoys Senior. "Did you just come here to ask that?" Cleon said. The guy shook his head. "I just came here to make sure that you were still alive, and now that I saw you breathing perfectly, I can now leave the table." "You've been talking out of line," the girl interrupted, looking at Cleon. "Hmm. Have I been too straight?" He let out a chuckle. "Sorry for that," he said and stood up from his seat. I was surprised when he looked at me and smiled—a grin that made my hair stand on end. "Can you walk me out, young lady?" He started walking towards me. I didn't move at all. It was like I was paralyzed at that moment until he finally arrived in front of me. I noticed Senior bending down and lowering his hand under the table; it rested on his knee. Later, my eyes widened when his sharp nails started to show up. Even Miro's little gasp at my side did not escape my senses. Senior slowly stood up and faced our direction. My lips parted when I saw the change in the color of his eyes. The man facing Seniorito was about to turn around when I quickly walked towards him. "Cleon," I called with my eyes closed in fear as I hugged him tightly. Gasps echoed all over the place. I was even more afraid to open my eyes because they might have found out about Seniorito's situation, but that fear quickly disappeared when I felt a warm arm wrapped around my waist. "She can't. You can leave on your own." That was Seniorito's voice. At that moment, a tear escaped from my eye. It really works.
