Chapter 8

~3rd PERSON P.O.V~ I've been having the same recurring dream every night this last month. It always starts off with me running in a forest, in my wolf form. Of course, I've dreamed of running as Timber before, seeing how my dreams are of my wolf's thoughts. But this, this is different. I've even asked Timber why he keeps thinking of this forest and he also says, 'It’s not me, it's her'. Every night was the same. Across the field, I saw the most beautiful girl I have ever seen. Long blonde hair, that flows so well against her ivory skin, with the most mesmerizing blue eyes. Deep blue, like the ocean. She had the perfect glow that surrounded her. I could physically see her aura. She smells flowers most days. Some days she will look at me, but she never says anything or walks to me. Today's dream was different, however. The wind blew, as her hair danced in the air, the breeze bringing over the most amazing smell as it hit my face. I took a deep breath, inhaling her scent. 'Lavender' Timber groaned in my head. 'Yes, and also morning dew'. Her scent was so faint, but I could still smell her. That was all that was different. Nothing else. I wished I knew who came to me every night in my sleep. Did she know I was there or was she looking straight through me, like I wasn't visible to her? I jumped out of bed as the whistle was blown. I hate waking up to a whistle, it's literally the worst way to wake an Alpha. But patience is one of the key factors they want Alphas to learn and so this is how we are woken up every single day. I was on such a strict schedule here that I felt like I was part of the human military. 'Might as well be' Timber says while laughing. Timber tends to have a sarcastic personality; he speaks his mind and doesn't care for the repercussions. He has a strong will, beyond loyal, incredibly tactical, and smart. Believe it or not, he can be pretty wise. 'Don't forget very powerful,' Timber voices his opinion on my thoughts. He is definitely an Alpha Wolf in every way. 'In 3 days, this will be over' I said to him. 'And we can find MATE!' Timber screams with joy. Timber thinks that this mystery girl in our dream is our mate. I've told him countless times that the Moon Goddess doesn't give second-chance mates, he just doesn't believe me. He thinks that since we lost our mate so soon before he could even present himself, it doesn't count. Like there is a redo button on mates or something. Our mate died 2 and a half years ago. She was so beautiful, her red curly hair bouncing in the wind. Only I hadn't known her but for 2 seconds before she was killed, with me standing across the road. Right there, before my eyes. I knew she was my mate because when our eyes met, my wolf screamed 'MATE', the realization hit as fast as it was taken. At that moment, I only saw her. For a split moment, I forgot we were under attack, and, because of that, her life was stripped away by my idiocy of letting my guard down. I am an Alpha, how could I let my own mate die right before my eyes, all because her beauty and this mate bond distracted me? The pain consumed me, and I fought hard to overpower it. It took me a moment, but once I got my s**t together again, I didn't hesitate to rip his heart right from his chest. Feeling the last beat of his heart in my hand wasn't revenge enough for Timber. But all that hate was useless, our mate was long gone, and I didn't even know her name. So, Timber might have hope, but mine was long gone the moment my mate died. The Moon Goddess doesn't give second-chance mates, that is just a known fact. Nobody in centuries has had a second chance. We are no different... She didn't look of age, so maybe she didn't feel the instant connection that I did. After I lost my mate, I started sleeping around. I slept with many she-wolves. Most of them were older than me, some younger, and even some full-grown women. Yes, I know, sleeping around like I did at the age of 17 is bad. Trust me, that's exactly why I did it. I had several months after the Rogue attack and before I was shipped away to Alpha school, AKA hell, to sleep around and in that time, I had slept with several of my pack members and some of the surrounding packs of unmated she-wolves. Now that I am almost 20 and will be taking over as Alpha in 3 weeks when I officially turn 20 on January 1st, I realize my mistakes. I just hope none of those females remember it or, hopefully, they are mated by now. 'Who are you kidding? Any she-wolf we slept with would never forget all this.' Timber states. I laughed but chose to ignore his comment. It is now 3 days before I return home. I'm getting pretty nervous since I have been gone for 2 years now. We are not able to have outside visitors and talking over the phone is timed, with a strict no-cellphone policy. It literally feels like a constant lockdown. It's not that I have to be here. I could've passed it up and my younger brother Jude could've taken it. But why would I pass that up? I am a born leader; I am the first-born son of Alpha James Reed and so I do as any sane wolf would do if given the opportunity. I went away to better myself to become the best, strongest, and wisest, an Alpha that my pack deserves, one fair and who knows how to protect and lead, like my father. I am not the same person I was when I left a few years back. I don't plan on going back to f*****g all the available girls who spread their legs at the given chance. But in the same breath, I haven't been laid in about 2 years. Maybe sleeping with at least one female won't do me any harm? 'MATE ONLY!' Timber screams in my head. I tell you; this dude has no chill. I started to think while rubbing my forehead from the headache his screaming in my mind had caused. I walked over to the bathroom that I shared with 5 other guys. I do my business. When I am done showering, I look in the mirror at my reflection as I brush my hair. I was 6'4 with an 8-pack of rock-solid abs, I have sun-kissed skin making me slightly tanner than my natural skin tone. I have blue eyes and brown shaggy hair that I run my hands through a lot, especially when I am nervous or under pressure. I finish brushing my teeth and head out to the training grounds. Today is the last day of training. Some of us have already left and returned home. But Laken and I are still here. Laken is my best friend and future Beta. We were both shipped out here together to become better leaders for our pack back home. I see Laken is already stretching on the field. "Hey dude!" I yelled across the field. "What's up Gun, ready to get the f**k out of here man?" Laken said. "Hell yeah. I am ready. Luckily, today is our last day before we have to head home." The trip takes 2 days via vehicle and that is how they require us to travel. "Let’s get this training over with so we can hit the road!" Laken exclaims. We fought for 4 hours with a 15-minute break after each battle. "Next up, Gunner Reed, and Daxton Lane." We heard the referee holler through the megaphone. Daxton was our top fighter. I can barely keep up with him. Honestly, I never expected to be seeing how he is a royal wolf. Royals are the highest-ranking wolves known to our kind. They have been said to be direct descendants of the Moon Goddess herself. How much of that is real, you got me. But I sure am glad that he will be my last battle. "It is an honor, your majesty," I said while shaking his hand. "An honor it is, indeed, Mr. Reed." His Highness spoke. We circled one another waiting for the right time to attack, studying one another. Without knowledge, how else would one counteract the others' movement? I have seen His Highness in many battles over the years. His stance is different. I keep playing matches in my head as he attacks. He leaps in the air, tackling me to the ground and pinning me under his foot. "First mistake, you think too much." The prince spoke. "Second is, you took too long, allowing more advantages to attack." He speaks again when I don’t respond. He was very talented. I do give him that. I twisted my legs around, knocking him off his feet and onto the ground. "First mistake, you let your guard down," I said as I did a 180-degree turn which now had him pinned to the ground. "Very good young Alpha, very good indeed." He says with a smile. Once we got up, we began to fight, combat. I got a few hits, so that made me proud. But unfortunately, the prince had the upper hand most of the fight and got more hits than I did. As I went to dodge his hit, another came upper cutting me in the face, causing me to bust my ass. He came closer and smiled while he held his hand out to help me up. Timber growled in my head at his defeat, but I gladly took his hand as it was always an honor to battle against a Royal. "That was a great battle," I said to the prince as he was exiting the arena. "Thank you for giving it all you had in the arena today and I hope one day, we cross paths again." The prince says back as he nods. "I pray if we do, it's under good circumstances," I say as I also nod in return for respect, while he smiles and then turns to leave the training ground. "BRO THAT WAS EPIC!" Laken screamed as he ran over to me, and fist-bumped my hand. "Yeah, I got my ass handed to me." "You lasted longer than anyone else, y'all's battle lasted an entire 10 minutes!" He said loudly as if 10 minutes was an accomplishment. I shook my head as we made our way back to the room to get freshened up for our last dinner at the royal palace.
