Chapter 9

~GUNNER'S P.O.V~ At dinner, it was strangely quiet for the main course. Today's dinner was held in the palace with the King, the Queen, the prince, and the princess. Awkward wasn't even close to the right words. The King stood up from his seat, gaining our attention with his glass raised. "A toast to all of you young Alphas and Betas. We want to tell you how much of a pleasure it was to have you all among us. I have seen grave improvements and knowing our future has leaders like all of you is a great blessing." The king states. We all raise our glasses as he continues to speak. "May you all be richly blessed and become the best leaders for your packs. Your leadership is what will keep your pack together." After he drank, we all took a drink as well. I noticed Laken looking at the Princess as her eyes connected with his and she took a gulp, quickly cascading her eyes down. I've told him many times to not pursue what he can't have. She was the princess for crying out loud. Of course, everyone here had eyes on her, well all but me. After dinner, we went back to the rooms to grab our bags to head out. Laken is the first to drive. Thank the goddess because I am worn out. We get into the car and head down the road, leaving the royal territory that leads up to the royal pack house, where we have been training for the last 2 years. Their home wasn't like a typical pack house, it was a kingdom with a castle dead set in the middle. As our car pulls out of Royal’s territory and towards a road that will eventually lead to a highway, we turn the music up, blasting through the speakers, enjoying being free from the grasp of adulthood one moment longer. Soon after, we have fun by jamming out to music. After a while, Laken turns the radio down, my eyes becoming heavy as I could feel sleep taking over. I lay my head on the window and informed Laken I was going to rest a while. My eyes open and I am once again in the familiar forest I visit so often. And once again, I am in wolf form. 'I'm starting to think she likes me better as a wolf.' I said to Timber. 'Ha, that's exactly it, she just likes me better than you.' He says sarcastically. We sat for a while watching her. In this dream, she was moving around. Picking flowers from the field. "I wished I could know her name or hear her voice." I physically said, causing her to look up, the most beautiful sound came from her mouth, laughter. I have never spoken out loud before. I wonder if she heard me. Maybe I only sound like a dog? 'Not funny dickhead.' Timber says while growling. 'I thought it was funny.' I said back to him, earning me another growl. That's when we hear another voice, one that sounded like it was right next to us. It startled me because I am so used to it only being me and Timber watching the girl that I completely forgot this wasn't just a dream but a realm of some sort. "Hello, Gunner." I heard an angelic voice speak. "You know my name?" I said as I looked up at the beautiful figure of a woman who sort of resembles the one I’d been watching for a month now in the field, except she has silver hair and blue eyes that almost look silver as well. "Of course, I do. I know all my children's names." She replies. "But how? I am not in my human form." I asked. "Ahh yes, well as a goddess I am able to see within." "What does that mean?" I asked her. "It means. That I am able to see both you and your wolf as one." "Are you the Moon Goddess?" I asked in awe. "Why yes, I am." She replied to my question. As the words slipped out of her mouth it was only her and I. The beautiful girl that had been a short distance away had now disappeared. "Gunner. We need to talk. I come to you to give you a warning." The Moon Goddess said, pulling me back to our conversation. "My Goddess, I am listening," I replied back. "She is in grave danger." "I'm sorry Ma'am, who is?" I asked, hoping for an explanation. "The one you seek." Does this lady talk in riddles? "I'm not sure who you are speaking about, because I do not seek anyone." "In time you will seek her out. But listen closely to what I am to say. Her shifting will be seen, He will lurk in the shadows watching her, she will be seen. My descendant, my true heir, the one whom your wolf craves." It all comes flooding back to me. The bedtime stories of the Moon Goddesses’ true heir. The first pure blood to walk the earth. She is said to be powerful, but not only will she reign and be queen of all supernatural beings, but her offspring will also be equally powerful. Any male species who knows of this story will be told and they will all want her; they will all seek her. "She needs you. Your second chance is in your hands, all you have to do is take it." She says. "A second chance for what?" I asked reluctantly. "Find her, you will know." "But how do I find her?" I asked, totally dumbfounded. "I don't even know who she is," I added to my question. "Just listen to your heart, use your senses. I have faith in your destiny." The Goddess says. "But Moon Goddess what is her nam-?" I started saying, but before I knew it, she was gone. I woke up to my body jerking me awake. "Damn Gunn, you sure were having a wet dream over there with all the mumbling and sweat pouring off you," Laken says while laughing. He is right though, in a sense, I am covered in sweat. "We will need to pull over for the night, I need a shower and I'm getting hungry, find the nearest motel," I told Laken. An hour later, we pulled into Motel 8. These cheap motels are normally awful, but we had nothing else in a 100-mile radius, so it will have to do. It's either that or the car. At least here I have a bed to relax in and a shower to wash my body. We walked inside and made our way to the counter. "Will it be one or two beds?" The clerk asks as she looks up from her hooded eyes, a seductive look lingering. If I wasn't so occupied with my running thoughts over an imaginary girl, I would've probably banged the human to relieve some stress, but something is holding me back. Maybe when I get home I'll stay away from wolves and f**k humans. That way, no pack members will become obsessive. That's a brilliant idea. 'NO, I am only going to be bending over that lovely-smelling blonde!' Timber practically yells. I shake my head no, mainly to my annoying wolf, but it can also answer the clerk's question. "Two Please," I say as the pretty brunette bites her lip while she grabs a key card. After the motel was paid for and the keys were given to us, we headed to find the room. "I call the shower first," I said. "No problem, I can smell your stench from a mile away!" Laken says while laughing. "Make sure you scrub really well, otherwise I'll be getting all the tail. Speaking of which, did you see the way the clerk was eye f*****g you?" Laken says while laughing. Laken can be what one would call a player. Anytime we were around the Royals or the guests of the Royals he would always hit on them. He did have a fling with the princess herself even though I told him to stay away from her for several reasons, but of course, the bull-headed man didn't listen. Once they were discovered, her mother wouldn't allow her to even come near the training grounds where we stayed. I think he truly did care for the girl; she didn't seem like just any ole hookup. I could see it in his eyes when he spoke about her. But he never admitted it. He would only say 'It's whatever, we aren't mates anyhow.' He wasn't wrong, she wasn't his mate, all the more reason why their fling was wrong. I shouldn't be the one to talk, especially after what I did back home, but deflowering the princess of all people, that's just wrong. Laken didn't know that I had already found my mate. Actually, nobody does. It's not something I like talking about. But Laken on the other hand, hasn't found his mate yet. Hopefully, he will find his mate and give her all the love he once gave to a stranger. I get out of the shower and notice that it's nearly 12am. Timber starts to become restless. 'What's wrong Tim’ I asked my wolf. 'I don't know, but I feel like someone is trying to hurt someone I love'. As he spoke, I could feel these emotions, but they were not mine. I felt scared, but then all of a sudden, I felt angry. I can only describe this feeling as I felt angrier than I did when I was 17 and I lost my mate. Maybe that can explain to you the level of anger I feel. What is this? How is this possible? This is not my anger; it is someone else's anger. 'Mate, it has to be mate.' Timber goes on about this mate he thinks he has. No, that can't be it. Or is it? Is she in danger as the Moon Goddess predicted? Is anyone there to protect her? Where is she? How do I protect her...? "HOW DO I PROTECT SOMEONE IF I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHERE THEY ARE!" I screamed out loud, hitting the wall. Timber is now growling, and I can't rest. I'm becoming more anxious the longer I stay here. I rushed out of the bathroom and, grabbing my bag, packed up what I took out to shower. "What's up dude, are you okay?" Laken asks. "My wolf, he thinks something is wrong. We need to get back to the pack house now." "But we are still 20 hours away from home." "I know... You sleep, I'll drive. We can be there in 10 if I speed." I say. "If you go that fast, we may die!" Laken was trying to reason with me at this point, but I was already dead set. "FINE, we will go to the airport, and we can be there in even less time! Once we arrive back home, I'll send some pack members to retrieve the car." "Ok." Laken never questions me too much, which I am thankful for. It's best to stay out of my way when I become like this. I've only been like this one other time that I can recall, and it was after I lost my mate. It was when we first arrived at the Royals and some jackass named Jax Lee was talking about how he would treat his mate once he found her. He talked about rejecting her on-site but f*****g her just so that she can feel what she could have had. It infuriated me and my wolf, how could one talk like that, we just lost our mate forever and we didn't even get a chance to say hello and this kid is talking about basically torturing his mate? For what reason? Is he heartless? Laken tried to calm me, but I couldn't be talked down. I became more infuriated the longer he talked until he said one thing and I snapped. He mentioned intentionally marking her just so he could mark another she-wolf so she could feel the excruciating pain of betrayal. If you mark your true mate, then mark another she-wolf, your mate will feel the worst imaginable pain. It's said to be worse than torturing a wolf with silver and wolfsbane. It is one of the most painful experiences one could endure. In some ways, it can be lethal. However, marking more than one she-wolf at a time, and neither of whom is your true mate, can likely cause death or slow torture as the venom is said to be in comparison to acid at that point. The thought of someone wanting to do that to their mate made both me and Timber angry. He took over completely and I exploded. I got in trouble that day for beating Jax until all I saw was red. The beating did nothing but make him think he was a badass for fighting an Alpha. He never spoke about it again though, at least not around me or out loud to where I could hear. I could tell he was bad news; something was wrong in his head for someone to wish that kind of pain on someone for simply being their mate. We threw our bags in the car and headed straight to the airport, which was a 2-hour drive. We booked the flights online so that once we arrived at the airport, I could park the car and get to the flight. We both rushed through the airport to where we would board our plane. Once we boarded our flight and were heading home, I tried to relax a bit. Knowing I would be home in the next 5 hours puts both me and my wolf at a little at ease, but not enough because I am still restless. 'What if we are too late!' Timber yelled. 'We will make it, Tim; we will find her.' That was all I said back. The plane then took off. This was going to be a LONG 5 hours...
