"Ravine!" Dom had to drag me to the side to have a word with him after I got stunned by listening to Elijah O’Dell. How dare he question my mate’s choice?
I saw the look everybody was passing me when I was walking out of the farmhouse with Dom, which was horrible. I just didn’t understand why it was all happening to me.
Not only that, but I couldn’t even kick Gina out of their lives like I thought I had. I met Elijah this time earlier, too.
"What is going on with you? Are you clinging onto topics and issues now?" Once we were in the courtyard, Dom started blaming me for spoiling everyone’s mood.
I had to close my eyes and comfort myself before I responded to him.
"Did you know she was invited over for dinner?" Instead of responding to him like he wanted me to, I questioned his knowledge of her presence.
Gina being here meant one thing only: they wanted only one of us here.
"Ravine! Elijah, Gina, and Vania had been friends for years. We are a group of friends, too, before we are anything else to each other. Even if she was invited over, what is the big issue with that?" Dom spat after he felt like I had taken it too far. Honestly speaking, it was very sad that he raised his voice at me with the royal guards and warriors around us.
"I’m just pointing out the irony. Your sister didn’t want me here for a reason," I raised my voice, but Dom stepped back and frowned at me.
"So who exactly are you mad at?" He acted like I was insane for picking up fights.
"Did Elijah disrespect me and not upset you at all? Did you not feel angry that he was openly taunting your mate?" I was whispering now, but my heart was aching inside my chest. I shouldn’t have reminded him how he needed to react to everybody mistreating me. He should have been aware of it himself.
"He only said that because you acted like a crazy, jealous Luna in front of him." Dom defended Elijah, not showing any disappointment at his words. It left me with no words to say in response to that.
His eyes traveled back to the driver behind me, and he raised his arm to point at him, "Come here,"
Vertical marks formed between my eyebrows as I tried to understand what he was trying to do.
"Dom! What are you doing?" I asked, looking for his attention, but getting ignored by him.
"Martin! Drop Luna Ravine home," As he pulled the key out for the driver, my jaw hung low in disbelief.
"She is not feeling well. She would very much like to head back to the mansion now." He decided for me.
"Sure! Let’s drop you home, Luna Ravine," Martin said, gesturing at me to follow his lead.
"Martin, can you please give us a moment?" I requested some privacy, and Martin walked away from us.
"What are you doing? Tonight is your sister’s big night, and you want to send me home all alone?" My heart ached to hear that he didn’t want me with him.
"Exactly! Tonight is my sister’s special night. I don’t want any distasteful arguments. And you have been doing that ever since we came." He didn’t even look me in the eye when telling me he wanted me gone.
I was the one who gave him the status of Alpha, and he was using that power on me.
"So you want me gone?" I asked him without displaying many emotions anymore. I was just stunned by his decision.
"Please, don’t ruin the night for me." He had his hands on his waist and was wearing an exhausted look on his face.
"Fine, have fun!" I still expected him to stop me, but he didn’t. I got into the car and Martin turned the key in the ignition.
Likewise, I was heavy-hearted, sitting alone and looking outside the window. Tears kept trying to come to the surface, but I was pressuring them back.
I just didn’t get it. What could I possibly do to change things? I kicked Gina out, but that didn’t change much for me. Not to mention, the person who killed me is getting engaged to my sister-in-law.
I had spent the day of the engagement alone in the mansion last time and tonight, I had been sent back once again. So what is the difference?
While in the car, I kept sniffling and holding the tears back. Meeting failure after failure wasn’t a very pleasant feeling.
My concentration on my sad life broke when the car came to a stop in the middle of the road near the woods out of the blue.
"Martin! What’s going on? Why did you stop?" I asked, knocking my fingers on the window to get his attention.
"I think we ran out of gas," he mumbled, getting out of the car to check what went wrong.
"Seriously?" I sighed with myself. As if the night couldn’t get any worse, the car broke down in the back of beyond. I frowned, watching the driver check what went wrong.
I stayed in the car while he inspected the car and then jumped inside the car.
"I don’t think I can get it to work," he informed me.
"Then what are we going to do now? We cannot stay here the entire night," I said, as I felt I needed to get out of here. This place was giving me the creeps for some reason.
"I would have called the driver from the mansion, but everybody is busy at the engagement party. The drivers are needed to run errands," he then explained why we can’t expect help from anyone, either.
It was shocking to me that there was not a single spare driver and car to be sent for my rescue.
"So, we are stranded for the rest of the night?" I asked in disbelief, sounding pissed off.
"There is a repair shop just a few miles from here. I will go get a guy here quick," he informed me before he left me alone in the car and sped off.
I sat in the car for a few minutes before I swung my legs out of the car and stood on the road, unsure of what to do.
It was a long, silent road with woods on one side of the road. I fretted, looking in the direction of the woods.
"What the hell is this? I’m a Luna, and I’m standing in the middle of the road while my mate and his family are celebrating my sister-in-law’s post-engagement dinner," my face contorted with rage as I muttered grumpily.
That was it.
Dom should know that his Luna is stranded whilst he is partying. The woods looked so creepy that I swear I thought a pair of eyes were watching me. Well, I wasn’t wrong.
The rustling in the woods made my heart miss a beat. I reeled back in my steps and dialed my mate’s number with shaky hands. My eyes were still fixated on the woods to not miss out on any alarm.
"Pick up the call, Dom," I whispered anxiously, sticking my back against the car and so frightened that even getting inside meant I had to look away for a moment. Two red dots were shining in the dark, watching me and growling in an undertone.
"Ah!" I almost whimpered when Dom didn’t return my calls. I then dialed Vania’s number. Somebody will pick up my calls eventually.
And thankfully, she did.
"Vania! Tell Dom I’m in trouble," I whispered, still looking straight at those red dots, "our car brokeee dow---n and Martin left to get help. I’m in the middle of the HJ road and there is something in the woods." I was breathing loudly on the phone and also talking discreetly.
"Please tell him to come to help me," I begged as I watched the red eyes move.
"I’m not Vania," the person on the other side of the call finally broke the silence, and my heart met the gutter.
It was the Alpha King Elijah.
"Vania! It’s your sister-in-law. She is stranded somewhere and needs your brother," he coldly handed the phone over to Vania without even conveying the severity of the situation to her.
The moment Vania grabbed the phone out of his hands, she expressed her unwillingness to help me.
"What do you want now?" she grunted.
"I’m in trouble. Our car broke down, and Martin left. Vania! There is something in the woods watching me. Please tell Do---," I hadn’t even finished yammering when she shut me up.
"You are crazy to think I will ask my brother to leave my engagement dinner. You have Martin. He will come back in time. Just get inside the car and wait for him. And don’t ruin our night." and just like that, she hung up the call on my face.
I was quaking in my boots because now the animal had begun to walk in my direction. I stretched my hand back and instantly opened the car door to storm inside.
And that’s when the wild rogue jumped out of the woods.
