His green eyes reminded me of the night of my demise.
My past with him flashed before my eyes, and I remembered what caused Dom to suspect I had cheated on him.
Flashback
This night was special. Vania had spoken nicely to me for the first time. It was a minor triumph, but it meant everything to me. I would do anything to please Dom, even if it meant making amends with my sister-in-law, who had been an absolute nightmare in my married life.
It shocked me too when she asked me to join her for a run. We didn’t shift; it was just a gesture to spend time with me.
I never got my wolf, so she suggested we take a run through the woods and bond.
It felt nice.
Maybe it could be the beginning of something. Now that Dom had already accepted Gina and everybody loved her, I would love to have somebody on my side too.
When I returned to my room, I came to know that my shower was not working. I needed to take a shower because tonight was my night to spend with Dom. I wanted to look perfect for him.
"Don’t worry about that. Why don’t you use my bathroom?" Vania suggested when watching me stare into space for too long.
"Really?" I asked, parting my lips and letting out a sigh of relief.
"Of course, I don’t see why not?" She had never been this nice to me. Her entire demeanor changed after she had a petty argument with Gina in the morning.
I felt bad for saying this, but I was glad they argued because it went in my favor.
"Thank you so much. I’ll be quick." I grabbed my towel and walked behind her to her room.
"The lock is not working, but don’t worry, lock the room, and it will be fine," she suggested when watching me swirl the doorknob of the bathroom.
"Here," she snatched my clothes out of my hands and put them on the bed, "Now go, take a shower." After smiling at me, she turned around to get something from her closet.
"I will leave and lock the door behind you in a minute," she voiced to let me be aware she would be gone in a minute. Although I entered the bathroom, I didn’t start taking off my clothes until I heard her steps walking in the distance, and then the door got locked.
Now that she had left the room, I began to shower peacefully.
I was in the shower when the lights turned off out of the blue. It wasn’t common in my mansion. It could only mean one thing; somebody had switched the power off from the cellar or the circuit blew up.
I didn’t have my phone with me, and neither did I have a flashlight. Who brings a flashlight to the bathroom, anyway?
I wrapped a towel around myself and rushed outside for my clothes. The instant I came out of the bathroom, I realized I was not alone.
In a panic, I zipped around to spot the bathroom in the dark when I slipped into something and the guy came forward to help me.
The moment he held me, the towel slipped down my body and the lights came back on.
Now I was naked in the arms of the Alpha King, and the person entering the room was my mate: Dom!
He saw us in a state no mate wants to see their mate in.
End Of Flashback:
I didn’t comprehend how it all happened. Among the howling and accusations, Alpha King left the room without getting a scratch on himself. That night, I got beat up for seducing the Alpha King, who told everyone I knew he was going to be in the room, so I walked naked to get him to bed with me.
His indictments turned Dom against me. That same night, I also acknowledged Vania and Elijah played this dirty game to assassinate my character in the eyes of my mate, and their plan was carried out perfectly because of my gullibility.
"Ravine!" I felt Dom hit me with his elbow to bring me back from the past, and he eyed me to greet Elijah.
"Hello, I welcome you to my pack. Hopefully, you will have a great time here." I said without a hint of a smile on my lips.
"Thank you." He was tall and broad-shouldered. His green eyes went well with his black hair and the black suit he was wearing.
I noticed how he lowered his face and shook his head as if he was holding back an urge to comment.
"Elijah!" Vania, who had already greeted him, rushed for a showcase with a huge smile plastered across her lips. Everybody watched her put her arms around his neck and get on the tip of her toes to kiss his cheek.
That’s when I was met with another shock.
I turned my neck around to pass a quizzical stare at Dom, who, from the looks of it, knew what was up.
"I am sure you have met my sister-in-law," she said, before splitting from him and mentioning me. Gina, however, sneakily paraded in our direction and stood with Vania.
"I did." Elijah had a deep and husky tone. I tried to avoid picking up on every little detail, but the past and the accusations didn’t allow me to ignore his existence.
"I’m sorry! Am I missing something?" I felt betrayed. Everybody knew what was going on except for me.
The way Elijah stood tall with little to no movement of his muscles and his eyes darkening. I felt goosebumps.
"I told you," Vania eyed me into silence, quickly changing her mood when she saw Elijah looking at her, "She loves to create a scene, remember, what I told you about her?" she whispered, but almost like she didn’t think I would hear her talk about me.
"I would love to know what you have been telling your friends about me as well." This was the moment her jaw met the floor. She was too used to the doormat version of me, who would never take a stand for herself.
"Ravine! Please don’t start it here," Dom’s whisper almost felt like he, too, was judging me.
"Why are you not saying anything to your sister?" I know I should not have lost control over myself, but I did. Call it my trauma from dying, but I felt like arguing with everyone.
The look everybody gave me when I spoke back to my mate was truly judgmental.
"This is what happens when you don’t marry your one true mate and choose someone who isn’t compatible with you." Elijah’s comment left me shocked. My eyes roamed around, and everybody's nodding was in agreement with his crude judgment of me and my relationship with Dom.
