8*The Accused Mate*

1250 Words
I have returned to my room to get my head into the act. "I need to stop sulking and find out the truth. It was no coincidence that one night I’m stranded and a rogue happens to come out to eat me alive. Whoever planned this knew I would be there," I kept talking to myself while sitting in my bed. If only I had a wolf for companionship, I wouldn’t be talking to myself. "Dom!" I whispered, but instantly shook my head to discard the thoughts. "No! I cannot doubt him. He is my mate and the only one who I can trust." I sounded like a fool when I convinced myself I could blindly trust Dom. He was the one who sent me home, and he was the one who didn’t come to my rescue. "Oh goodness! I wish I knew more about my past." I sighed at how stupid I had been my entire life. Especially in my past life, where I never questioned anything and let everything slide. No wonder I ended up dying horribly. I slept the rest of the night and awoke to find out that my so-called new family was coming over for breakfast. I have let the maid take over the kitchen and prepare food for them. I’m not going to work for them anymore. Instead, I took a warm shower and wore a black dress with light makeup. I didn’t leave my room to receive them for the first time. I had been in my room ever since they arrived, which wouldn’t be more than ten minutes. Once I didn’t leave my room, Dom had to come to collect me. "What is this behavior?" I heard him say the very first sentence when barging into the room. I was sitting in front of the dressing table and combing my hair. "Ravine! I’m talking to you," he walked closer and snatched the brush out of my hands to slam it down on the dressing. "Now you remember you have a mate when I am needed to greet your family and your guests?" I got on my feet to look him in the eye and question him. He was taken aback for a second before keeping his posture and asking me, "What’s up with you?" He asked me the same question he had been asking me nonstop. "Did you try asking yourself once why I’m acting like that?" I questioned him instead. He scoffed at me, making me continue, "A rogue attacked me last night while you partied." As soon as I said that to him, the folds on his forehead turned prominent. "Why didn’t I get notified of that?" He asked, showing shock and concern at the same time, "Are you okay? Did he hurt you?" He grabbed my hand to pull me closer and then cupped my face as if he was scanning me. "I survived." I replied, "Your driver left me stranded and came all the way back to the mansion to have a gleeful conversation with the guards." I added. It wasn’t my habit to get any of my employees or servers kicked out, but Martin rubbed me the wrong way after last night. I wouldn’t want anyone who could be a threat to me around me. "He left my Luna on the road?" Dom was getting angrier by the minute. "Why didn’t you give me a call, Ravine?" He huffed, stepping back and clenching his fists angrily. "I did. You didn’t receive a single call from me. I spoke to your sister and informed her about the condition, but she hung up on me because she didn’t want me to bother you," I was able to say what I had been preparing in my head all night. I needed to tell Dom what had been going on and that I wasn’t being a brat. "Vania never told me about any calls. How did you get back home?" as he looked sadly at me. I realized I needed to tell him about Elijah saving me. Without looking suspicious, I answered, "Your future brother-in-law came on time." He didn’t know anything, but I was aware of how things went last time. The last time I was accused of having an extra-marital affair with Alpha King Elijah, "How did he come there?" Dom scowled, waiting for my response. "He said something about hearing me talk to Vania." I played it cool, acting like it wasn’t a big deal that he came and I was just relieved I survived. "I can’t believe Vania acted so irresponsibly." Dom gritted his teeth and then held my hand to make me follow him. "I cannot let it slide," he added. It was his reaction to the incident that relieved me. If he hadn’t acted so explosively, I would have suspected him. He took me to the living room, where everybody had gathered. Elijah wasn’t in view, which made it easier for us to talk about it. "Vania! Ravine called you last night and told you she was stranded. Did you think it would be appropriate to tell your brother?" He stopped right when we were facing his mother and his sister. "She didn't come to greet us, but she sent you here after setting you on fire," Lady Helen said as she turned to face her son. "Mom! My Luna was stranded on a road with a wild rogue ready to attack her and you are focusing on greetings? Vania! I am talking to you," Dom raised his voice once he noticed Vania wasn’t taking him seriously. "She never told me she was stranded. She did call me, but only to inform me she had reached the mansion." Once Vania noticed she was in trouble, she lied to his face. I told her, "She is lying. I told her everything, but she dismissed--," I argued back with her. She had lied enough times about me and had ruined my life. This would be the appropriate time to take a stand for myself. "No! She is lying. She is just not happy that I am getting engaged to an Alpha King. In fact, she was talking and giggling with my mate when he attended to his call. It was only later on that I found out from Martin that she sent him home and asked my mate to come to save her," Vania yelled at the top of her lungs and shocked me with her craziness. I gasped and watched Dom lower his face as she manipulated him perfectly. "I swear to you it’s a lie," I murmured, feeling sad that no matter what I do, I end up in the same mess. "Is everything alright here?" It was then that Alpha King walked into the living room and passed each of us a glance. "Yeah! Let me show you the guest room." Vania hesitantly grabbed his arm to pull him away from us. The only person who could tell Dom Vania was lying was Alpha King Elijah, but I knew he would never take my side. Is this why he came to save me? They played me again. But it wasn’t over yet because Elijah spotted the vertical lines on Dom’s forehead and questioned his enraged panting. "Are you okay, Dom?" he asked, freeing his hand from Vania’s grip. "Are you angry because of what happened last night?" He brought it up himself. Something didn’t feel right. He was going to blame me for everything.
