“What was that?” I puffed, propping myself against a light post. “It wasn’t giving up… Remind me to notify animal control later!”
Onyx sniffed the air and continued to do so until he felt satisfied. With a snort that flicked blood out of his nose, he turned to me.
“I think we should call it a day,” I suggested. Once I could breathe properly, I stood and dusted black fur from my arms. “Let’s get you a bath and something to eat. And… I won’t tell Cole about the wild dog if you don’t... Not that he’ll believe it... I don’t even know if I believe it.”
He rubbed against my leg, turned away and started trotting in a different direction from where we had come.
“I’m not sure where you’re going,” I shrugged, “but I trust you.”
