Power and Pain

“Lorana!” I shouted in my mind as an intense and electrifying burst of energy shot through my chest. It was arousing and paralysing simultaneously, sending all the hairs on my body painfully on end. “I can feel you! Oh, Mother Wolf… I can feel you, Lorana!”
We were still connected. Even after I had rejected her, I could feel her—her pain—her anguish. The intensity of her power coursed through my entire body, causing my skin to tingle and my ears to ring. She had unlocked a power like I had never known. Most wizards and witches had simple powers—telepathy, portal travel, dream travel, and manipulation of air, water, flora and things like that, but no one in my family had ever mentioned fire manipulation.
“I have no one…” Her voice was tainted
