Preparation for birthday party

AFTER ONE WEEK

AT ATLANTHEA'S POW:

It is exactly one week since I turned into a mermaid. It seems that dad does not want me to know if I am a mermaid or a siren. I have tried to ask him, but each time he changed the topic. I also have no idea what happened to Atlanthea's mom. He is also not telling me about it. I guess it really has some secrets if he is hiding stuff like that. I understand that it is hard for him to be a king and a father, but I do want to know the truth.

-Dad, why can't you tell me the truth?-I asked.

-I will tell you the truth when it will be the right time.-He said.

I sighed and sat down. It seems like the 'right time' will never be for him.

-Dad, can you please tell me what is going on?-I asked.

-Sweetie, I told you that I would tell you everything at the right time.-He said.

-I know that, but I do not want to wait for a long time.-I said and sighed.

He looked at me and sighed. It seems that I have won our conversation for the first time.

-I will tell you everything after your eighteen birthday.-He said.

-Promise?-I asked.

-Yes, I promise.-He said and hugged him softly.

-Thank you dad!-I said with a happy tone.

I saw how he smiled and patted my head softly. It seems that I am a weak spot for him. I smiled and left to my room.

It was only a few days left before my birthday, but I saw that dad was pretty worried about something. I do not like seeing him like that. It seems that before my birthday dad got a lot of stuff to do. I understand that, but I am still worried about him. I decided to go to his room. I knocked at the door and smiled.

-Hi dad, it's me. Can I come in? -I asked.

-You can.-He said.

I nodded and walked inside of the room. Inside the room, I saw dad sitting near his work table and doing some stuff. It's already eight pm and he is still doing something.

-What are you doing dad?-I asked.

-I am fixing some of the problems in the kingdom.-He said.

-You look so tired, father.-I said.

-I know but I need to finish it.-He said.

I nodded and sat down near him. It seems that he is going to do so a lot of stuff and I want to help him somehow. I looked at him and smiled softly.

-Can I help you somehow?-I asked.

-You were not interested in it before. Why do you want to help me now?-He asked.

-I realized that one day I am going to help you somehow to rule it. I am soon going to be eighteen so I want to know more about it.-I said.

-I understand sweetie and I am so happy to hear that. Of course I can teach you.-He said.

I nodded and smiled. Back in my normal life I helped my dad with everything, so it's so weird not to do it here. I want help since he cares about me a lot. I haven't met my 'mother' so far, but I think that she is probably an amazing woman.

-So what exactly are you doing right now?-I asked.

I saw how he took out a map and showed me some fishing lands. It seems that they are marked in a different kind of colors.

-Those colors mean something, right?-I asked.

-It means places where we can find fish. Red means less of it and green means most of it.-He said.

-I see. So do you take care of all the fishing? How can you control everything?-I asked.

-It takes time and skill, but I am able to do it.-He said.

-I am impressed by you, dad.-I said.

-I am happy to hear that, sweetie.-He said and smiled.

I nodded and started helping him with his stuff. I am happy that I was able to do something. It is mostly paperwork, but I can see how exhausting that is. I understand that dad is getting tired and it is taking a lot of his time to do everything.

-Dad, you should have some rest.-I said.

-I do not have time. I must finish this before tomorrow.-He said and sighed.

-I understand, but you would do everything better if you rested.-I said.

I saw how he sighed and nodded. I am glad that he understands that I am right about it. I hope that he understands that we are family and we are supposed to help each other. I know now that Atlanthea hasn't thought of helping him with it and it's kinda selfish. I wish I could help him more, but maybe I could learn more in the future. I watched how he laid down on the bed and I smiled. It's good to see him feeling better than before.

-Good night dad.-I said.

-Good night sweetie.-He said and soon fell asleep.

I smiled and covered him gently. He looks so tired but I am happy that he is at least getting more rest than usual.

I was spending my free time with him and I feel pretty excited since tomorrow is my 'birthday' party. I can not wait for it. I know that I am going to get some birthday gifts and also I am glad that I am going to spend a longer time with him. Dad said that he was going to tell me if I was a mermaid or a siren. It seems that those two are completely different here. I wanted to read some books about it in the castle's library, but it appeared to be hard to find some information about this topic.

-Are you excited, princess?-Zoe asked.

-I am. What am I going to wear?-I asked.

-I already have prepared an outfit for you, so you do not have to worry about anything.-Zoe said.

- You are amazing, Zoe.-I said.

-I have been taking care of you since you were a baby, so of course I know more about you.-Zoe said.

So she is a maid and almost my babysitter in my world. That does seem interesting. I think I could later ask her about 'my' childrenhood so I could gather more information about Atlanthea's life. I think I must do it. Now I must get some rest, so tomorrow I can be fully prepared for my birthday celebration.

Little did I know my eighteen birthday party would be one that is going to change my life in the castle forever.
