Chapter 10

Kaia Celene

Everybody in the field started howling and clapping in approval of their king's proclamation. I heard a low growl behind me which made me look back. And there I saw Kade, an angry Kade with Alice and Irene following him. 

"What joke is this Ashton?" Kade asked through gritted teeth.

"Why are you doing this to her? To your mate." Alice asked full of disappointment in her voice.

‘Fake; way too fake.’ I know Leah’s talking about Alice and I can also tell that she’s faking the whole thing. She’s just like her brother.

"What? It's a normal protocol and you both know it. Mate or not she'll have to go through the trials, no questions asked.” Ashton argued. Right then his w***e came up stage and went to his side. What was her name again? Nora? Nikki? Oh right. Nicole.

"Mate? Did anyone say mate?" asked Nicole. Her eyes landed on me eyeing me from head to toe. 

"Kaia is Ashton's mate Nicole." informed Irene but she was taken aback when Nicole started laughing uncontrollably. Alice glared at her and Kade just growled.

"Oh I'm sorry. You know Irene I didn't know you are quite the joker." she said in between laughs.

"I mean how can she be Ashton's mate? A lowly rogue who can't even protect her old pack can't be fit to be our queen. And Ashton should have introduced her to the whole pack earlier but he didn't." she said still laughing.

"It's true Nicole. Kaia is my brother's mate." Alice said in a very serious tone. Looking at Alice's serious face, it seems like Nicole is starting to believe it. 

"Why do you think Ashton hasn’t killed her even though she's a rogue?" it seems like the w***e realized it now. She looks at me with rage and I smirked.

"Is this true hon?" she asked Ashton looking hopeful.

"Unfortunately yes." Ashton said in an ungrateful tone. Nicole growled and walked closer to me.

"I’ll make sure you won't pass the trials b***h. Ashton is mine and mine alone and I am his only queen." she whispered, anger is evident in her voice. I gave her my warmest smile pinching her cheek.

"Oh honey, I would LOVE to see you try." I smiled widely which got her more riled up. She walked back to my mate, wrapping her arms around his neck kissing him hard. Ashton automatically snaked his arm around her waist giving the exact amount of kisses. Again there's a pain in my chest but I am too pissed to show it.

"You don't have to do this Kaia. If the council will know about this they will immediately take action." I looked at Kade with a blank expression.

‘What did he just say? I never liked this guy from the very beginning and underestimating us makes me dislike him more.’ Leah commented through gritted teeth. I too, didn’t like it. I hate it when people look down on us. I growled at him which made him take a step back. I can see shock and confusion in his face but I ignored it. 

"Are you underestimating me Kade?" I growled my voice getting dangerous. It seems like my mate noticed this since he took a step towards us leaving his w***e hanging from their kiss. 

"What's happening here?" he asked looking back and forth between me and Kade. 

"Nothing. We were just discussing about the trial and if it’s okay I want the trial to start NOW." I simply said. 

"If that's what you want Kaia. The trial starts with testing your human strength, no werewolf privileges. You will be injected with wolfsbane to keep your wolf away." said Ashton. I mentally smirked. Wolfsbane's not gonna work on Leah. But it’s not like she's going to help me anyway. Leah is a noble wolf and rules are rules for her. So if the rule states that I need to fight on my own without using her strength then Leah will oblige. Even without injecting some stupid wolfsbane to keep her out.

'You know I won't help you even if you beg me to, right?'  Leah stated. I mentally rolled my eyes at her. 

'Of course I know’.’ I can feel Leah's smirk inside my head.

'I know you will succeed Kaia. I am not paired to you without a reason.'  I smiled. They will regret looking down on us. I swear in the name of the Moon Goddess.

"The second trial is to test your werewolf speed still in human form. You are going to race with our top three fastest runners in the kingdom." Ashton continued and I smirked. Can't they give me a much harder trial?

'Stop being so confident, you don't know what might happen.' Leah commented which stopped me from being so overconfident. She's right, with Ashton's twisted mind, who knows what he's planning.

"The last trial, we'll be testing your wolf's strength." my smile quickly fades when I heard this.

"What the f**k are you talking about?" I blurted out. I can't shift. I can’t let them see Leah’s form.

"You are going to shift into your wolf and you are to battle three of our warriors in your wolf form." I was about to protest when I thought of something. No matter how desperate I am to prove that I am not weak, I just can't afford to put us in trouble. I know Leah will understand but she'll be mad at me.

'You're not actually doing what I think you're going to do right?' I didn't answer her.

I was about to answer her when an idea crossed my mind. I can shift. Why did I forget that? I still have Alexia and I have ways to connect with her.

‘It’s a good thing you thought about that ahead of time. I DON’T WANT TO BE AN OMEGA. I know that’s the solution you came up just to hide my form.’  I sighed. I can’t hide things from Leah considering that we are one mind, body and soul.

I faced Ashton and smirked, “Bring it on Ashton. Make sure your warriors don’t disappoint me.”
