CHAPTER 9

1497 Words
Cailean's POV    I went out of my room to start looking for Dr. William when I saw Mia standing by the stairs.      "Mia!" I called her, and it was quite loud. I did not care if everyone on this floor would hear me, all I care about is getting Mia's attention, and I did.     I started walking towards her as she turned to look at me.      "Hey, Cai! What's up?" She said, wearing her cheerful smile as always. That's one of the reasons why I feel comfortable around her.    "Do you know where I can find Dr. William? I just need to do a follow-up check-up." I told her, hoping that it will avoid any questions that she might think of.    "Hmm—— by now, he will be at the infirmary." She said.    "Where is the infirmary?" I asked.    "It's near the training grounds." She paused, and I saw panic in her eyes as she continued. "But you don't need to go there!" I will call Dr. William and send him to your room to check on you. Just wait in your room, ok?" She winked at me and started climbing down the stairs without waiting for my response. Obviously, she ended the conversation like that to avoid any questions from me. The hell she anticipated it correctly. I do have a question. They have training grounds?! What is this some kind of military school? And the panic I saw in her eyes when she mentioned it clearly pointed out that she's not supposed to tell me about it. What are they hiding from me?    I went back to my room as Mia instructed and waited for Dr. William. After five minutes, I heard a knock.    "Cailean? This is Dr. WIlliam. May I come in?" I was surprised to hear Dr. William's voice. That was fast. Maybe the infirmary is just nearby, or isn't he busy with other patients?    I pushed my thoughts aside and opened the door for him. "Hi, Doc! Please come in, and sorry for disturbing you." We sat down on the couch near the fireplace.    "It's ok. I wasn't busy, and you are my priority." I stared at him for a while after hearing what he said. I am his priority? What does he mean by that?     "I mean, since you just recovered from an accident, it's my priority to check on your well-being." He said as if he read my mind. "How do you feel right now?" he added.    "I feel better. In fact, I feel great. You are an amazing doctor." I complimented Dr. William, which made his cheeks a bit red and smiled at me.     "Well, thank you for seeing me that way. I'm glad to hear that you are satisfied with my care." He said with a grateful tone.    "By the way, Doc, I was looking for you because I want to consult something." I said, and he nodded. "Go on…"    "Since I came here, I've heard a voice in my head. Is this some kind of a side effect of the medication you gave me?" I observed Dr. William's face for any kind of awkward reaction, but I see nothing but calmness.    "Hmm… This is the first time I heard of that, but the medication I gave you doesn't have that kind of side effect. In fact, it doesn't have a side effect at all. Or maybe your body reacted to the medication differently." He paused for a while before asking me about the weird voice that I am hearing. "But can you elaborate on this voice that you are hearing? What does it say?"    "Mate. That's what it says. Only that word." I said.    "How often do you hear this?" He asked, and he looks relatively calm.     "Well, I heard it twice. First was this morning when I went for breakfast with Mia and the others, and the second time was when I was in Dylan's office." As I explained to Dr. William, I noticed that I can hear the voice whenever Dylan is around! And what's with the word "mate"? Why does the voice in my head keep on telling that? I heard Dr. William cleared his throat, which snatched my attention.    "I see. Here's what we're going to do, I will draw some blood samples from you to check, and I want you to observe more about this voice in your head if ever it will speak to you again, especially the occurrence. I will be checking on you from time to time." He reached for his bag and pulled a 10 cc syringe, a test tube, and some other stuff for taking blood samples.    "May I?" He said, asking for my arm. I offered him my left arm, and he started tying the tourniquet around my arm just above the elbow joint. Using a cotton ball with alcohol, he disinfected the area where he found a good vein to extract blood. I flinched a bit as the needle poked my skin, and he slowly pulled the plunger to extract my blood. After getting the amount he needed, he pulled the syringe and replaced it with plaster, applying pressure on the punctured area. He transferred the blood into the test tube and marked it with my name.     "Here's my number, do not hesitate to call me if you need anything," he said while handing me his calling card.    "Ok, Doc. I will. Thank you." I said. We stood up, and I escorted him to the door. "Take care of yourself, Cailean." He said. I gave him a nod then he left.    I flopped on the bed, thinking about the incidents when the voice spoke to me. It's always with Dylan like he is the trigger. Is it a love potion? S**t, that's it! Maybe they injected me with a love potion. That's why I am so attracted to him! Or maybe not. I remember, when I saw him that night in the woods, I was already attracted to him just by looking at those beautiful grey eyes. "Because he is your mate!" I sat up quick as a flash when I heard the voice.  "What the hell?! Who are you?!" Did I just ask the voice in my head a question? Right! It's a perfect sign of losing my mind.    I released a deep sigh and lay down again. I closed my eyes and tried to clear my mind off any thoughts, especially Dylan's. But then my thoughts drifted to my mom and granny. Mom cooks my favorite food if I am having a bad day like this. Every day, granny makes for me her specialty juice in which she never shared the ingredients, but it tastes delicious, though, so I don't mind drinking it every day. How I miss them so much. I felt tears rolled down in the corner of my eye as I thought of them. I just let it flow freely until I drifted off to sleep. Dylan's POV    I couldn't find anything about Cailean's condition at the werewolf search engine, so I tried the human way. I found some conditions, yes, like some people will have a sensitivity to silver that can cause irritation and rash on the skin. Same with wolfsbane though clinical manifestations are different. But I haven't seen any information regarding a human allergic to both, and nothing was particular.    When Will's mind linked me that Cailean wanted to see him, an idea came into my mind. I told Will to get blood samples from her to check her blood's initial reaction once it's exposed to silver and wolfsbane.    I closed my laptop and looked at the picture of my mom and dad on my desk. Then I started talking to them. "Mom, dad. I found my mate. But she's a human, so it will not be that easy. If only both of you were here…" I stopped and felt a tightening on my chest. I couldn't continue to say what I had to say. I can feel tears were forming in my eyes and blinked them away. I already found my mate. I will never be lonely again. I will build a family with my mate, and I will make sure that our lives will be filled with nothing but happiness.    "Alpha? Are you in there?" Our pack doctor called.    "Yes, I am. Come in." I said. Will immediately opened the door, went straight to my desk, and sat down on one of the visitor's chairs.    "Did you get what you need?" I asked. And he gave me a nod.    "But there's something you must know." He said with a thrilling tone.    "What is it?." I asked impatiently.    "She can hear a voice in her head and…" He paused and gave me a sadistic grin.     "And what? What does it say?!" His next word caught me off guard and took me to the brim of my emotion.    "MATE!"
