Cailean's POV
Dylan took me to his office, where he left his cell phone during the entire breakfast.
"Have a seat," he offered, and I sat down on the couch in front of the desk.
As he said earlier, he will let me call my mom and granny, but I must not tell them where I am.
I asked Dylan why I couldn't tell them, he just said that it was for my safety and also theirs. I wasn't really convinced of his explanation, but I controlled myself not to push further, so I just let it go. Let him think that I believe whatever he says. I have to gain his trust because, as far as I can see, that's my best bet to escape this place. I have to play this game well.
What he told me at the fountain really scared the s**t out of me, but there was one thing that frightened me more. That was when he was about to kiss me, and I was going to let him! And what's worse, I was eager to feel his lips on mine!
I got pissed when that butterfly flew between us and felt thankful at the same time because I didn't know what would happen to me if I got a taste of him. Ugh!!! Pull yourself together, Cailean Miller!
"Got it!" Dylan said, pulling his cellphone out of the drawer, then he walked towards the couch and sat down beside me.
"Here, call your mom." He smiled and handed me the phone.
As soon as I got the phone in my hand, I dialed my mom's number at once.
"Hello?' My mom answered.
"Hi, mom! It's me, Cailean!" As soon as she heard me say my name she started crying. Well, I can't blame her. She hadn't heard from me for almost 48 hours.
"Cai-Cai, my dear, how are you? Where are you? Why aren't you coming home?! Do you have any idea how worried I am and granny?!" My mom's tone keeps on changing from worried to angry and back to being worried.
"I am really sorry, mom. I didn't mean to make you and granny worry about me, but I am okay. Something came up last night when I was on my way to the club to meet my friends. I got a call from the company where I applied for a position as a marketing assistant and requested to come to their office as soon as possible because they have a big event to prepare for. Without thinking twice, I drove here, at Roseville, as fast as possible. I got so excited in a way that my senses left me and forgot to call you, even my friends. You know how much I wanted to get this job, mom. I was just desperate." I lied to my mom and hoped she would buy it because my excuse sounded so lame. Well, that's the best excuse I could think of on such short notice, and since my mom knew about that application and how hopeful I am about getting that job. Somehow, I felt a twitch in my stomach as guilt started to eat me.
I glanced at Dylan to check for any reactions, but he was just sitting quietly, indulging himself with an old-looking book.
"Alright, honey, but please, next time, don't do this again, please?" I was really surprised by my mom's reply. I couldn't believe she bought it.
"Okay, mom, I won't do it again. And again, I am sorry." I said with sincerity.
"Oh, by the way, mom, I lost my phone. My manager lent me his phone to call you. I will be getting a new phone tomorrow and some clothes. They are giving me a clothing allowance, can you imagine that?!" I added. Another lie!
"I am so happy for you, sweetheart. Just take care and don't forget to contact me as soon as you get your new phone, okay? I love you, my Cai-Cai." Mom said, and her sweetness broke my heart. If only mom knew that I was lying to her, all the sweetness would have turned into bitterness.
"I love you too, mom. Kiss granny for me," I replied with a shaky voice, and we both hung up.
I looked at the window just behind the desk and felt a warm liquid run down my cheeks. I felt awful for lying to my mom. I betrayed my mom's trust!
I stayed that way for a while, then I felt a hand touch my face. I was so lost in my thoughts that I forgot that I had company.
Dylan gently wiped the tears on my left cheek with his right thumb and gave me a sympathetic look.
"I know this is hard for you, but trust me, it will protect them. Someday you will understand what I'm saying," he said, cupping my cheeks.
"Why can't you just tell me now?" I asked with pleading eyes.
"Now is not the right time. But soon, it will be," he muttered, never breaking our eye contact. I could see the sadness in his eyes and also endearment, those eyes which hold a powerful effect on me. A powerful pull that I couldn't resist. And then the powerful effect of his touch. Whenever his skin brushes on mine, it gives a tingling sensation that spreads all over my body, which eagers me to be near him. I want to feel him very close to me. I want him! I need him!
My body started to move on its own, leaning closer to him and pressing my lips against his. Dylan stiffened from the unexpected kiss, but not for too long. His body relaxed, and he began reacting slowly.
He wrapped his hands around my waist, pulling me closer to his warm chest. I felt a jolt of electricity flow all over my body as my body collided with his. He licks my lower lip, asking for permission, and my lips parted deliberately to grant him access. A moan escaped me as he slid his tongue without hesitation and started kissing me possessively but at the same time passionately. I wrapped my hands around his neck, drowning in his taste. He pushed me slowly to the couch without breaking the kiss until he was lying on top of me. Our kiss became more intense and hungry, but then, a voice inside my head started to speak out of nowhere, saying the same word as last time, "mate," and this pulled me back to my senses.
"Wait," I said, placing my hands against his chest to signal him to stop while looking straight into his eyes.
"I'm sorry. Did I upset you?" Dylan asked with a worried tone.
"No, you did not. I'm sorry too. I don't want to give you any idea about anything," I told Dylan without looking at him as I sat upright. I don't want him to see my face. I am pretty embarrassed about what happened, but I don't regret it either.
I looked at Dylan this time. "I'm feeling tired. I'll rest in my room for a while." Then I stormed out of his office and went straight to my room without waiting for his response.
I couldn't stay in the same room with him any longer. I don't know what would happen next if I did.
I lay down on my bed to calm myself and let out a deep sigh. As soon as I closed my eyes, Dylan's face and our heated encounter were all I could see. Then, I remembered the voice and the word that it kept repeating to me, "mate!", causing me to sit bolt upright.
Am I becoming crazy, or is this the side effect of my accident? Maybe the side effect of the medicine they gave me? Because this thing started to happen only when I came here. There's only one way to find out. I need to pay Dr. William a visit.
Dylan's POV
I was shocked when Cailean kissed me. It was totally unexpected, but I was glad she did. Maybe she was starting to feel the pull of the mate bond.
Her kiss, along with her scent, was so intoxicating, and I couldn't get enough of it. I tried so hard to control myself not to claim her at that sensual moment. But her sudden reaction to stop what we were doing and storming out of my office made me really worried. Even though she said that I did not upset her, I could tell that something was bothering her.
I must take things slowly and avoid myself getting carried away, even if Cailean was the one who would make the first move. I should start thinking of plans about how I am going to court her. But before that, there is something I must do first.
I stood up from the couch where she left me and went to my desk. I opened my laptop and started searching using a unique search engine designed for werewolves.
I typed in, "Humans reacting to Silver and Wolfsbane."
