Dylan's POV
The breakfast was superb. The atmosphere was filled with nothing but laughter. Even Cailean seems happy and laughs at everyone's jokes. She even laughed at mine. And that's a good sign.
After breakfast, everybody excused themselves to do something important that left Cailean and me alone, which was part of Mia's plan.
At this moment, we both felt at ease with each other's company, so I decided to invite her to go for a walk and give her a tour of the garden, which she willingly accepted. This is my chance to win her trust. I cannot say winning her heart yet, for it's too sudden, especially for a human. Werewolves' mate bond is way less complicated and more straightforward compared to the human courtship thing.
As we reached the fountain in the middle of the garden, I stopped in front of it and started talking.
"Cai, about last night. I didn't mean to scare you. I also didn't mean to sound so possessive. I just couldn't help myself not to be overprotective. I saw you in your worst state, and I will never forgive myself if something like that will ever happen to you again." I finished and never took my eyes away from the fountain. I didn't even spare her a glance as I waited for her response because I was scared. Scared to see her reaction to what I said. She slowly reached for my forearm, which made my heart pound. I turned to look at her as she spoke.
"First of all, I would like to thank you for saving me that night. Only God knows where I will end up if you did not find me that night. And I really appreciate your concern for me. I find it really sweet but unnecessary." She smiled at me and continued talking.
"To be honest, I got so scared and furious at the same time when you said those things to me. You were nothing but an asshole back then, but now, I can see that you are a good person and very caring. Not bad at all," She said, giving my arm a light squeeze.
"You have no idea how happy you made me, saying that." I smiled and tucked the hair behind her ear. I started reaching for my pocket and pulled out a necklace with a diamond-studded crescent moon-shaped pendant.
"I want you to have this." A gasp of surprise escaped her mouth, and that gave me a feeling of satisfaction because that's exactly my plan to surprise her. But then, her emotion abruptly changes into worry.
"Ahm, is this silver?" I stared at her in confusion. Why would she ask that? As she sensed my confusion, she started explaining.
"Well, I am allergic to silver. And if you have any plans of giving me flowers, I am allergic to wolfsbane. I am glad that it's not easy to find," She said with a playful smile.
"Don't worry, it's white gold. I am not fond of silver either. And for flowers, I prefer giving you roses and tulips," I said and winked at her as I started putting the necklace around her neck.
These facts about her really put me in shock, but I made sure that she would not see it. This was the first time I had encountered a human who had weaknesses the same as werewolves?! And this human is none other than my mate. I made a mental note to research more about it. Now is the time to convince her to stay, at least for a while.
"I will be honest with you too." I paused for a while before I continued. "Right now, you really can't leave the house because of the animal attacks happening. It's really dangerous for you, especially since they already know your scent. Once you set your foot in the woods, it will immediately alert them." This is partially true. It will be my scent that will put her in danger, not hers, and what's worse is that if the rogues find out that she's my mate.
Her eyes widened with shock and bewilderment. I cupped her cheeks and leaned a bit closer to her face. So close that I can feel her warm sweet breath all over my face.
"Don't worry, sweet, I am here to protect you." She stared at me for a while and nodded.
We kept staring at each other for a while without moving an inch. Then I felt my body leaning closer as if it had a mind of its own, wanting to taste her thin pink lips. I noticed that she was not moving, and I could see from her attractive hazel eyes that she wanted me to kiss her. Before my lips touched hers, a butterfly flew between us and pulled us back to our senses.
"What shall I do then? My mom and granny will be worried about me. I need to speak with them at least to let them know that I am okay!" She said, breaking our physical contact and started pacing back and forth as panic arose.
I reached out for her and gently placed my hands on her shoulders, giving her a sympathizing look.
"Hey, calm down. Let's call your mom and granny to let them know that you're okay and in good hands, but you must promise me one thing. You can never tell them where you are."
