CHAPTER 6

923 Words
Cailean’s POV        Mia escorted me to the back of the house. As soon as we reached the backyard, my jaw dropped out of amusement. This is the most beautiful garden I’ve ever seen in my entire life; it’s like the one in fairytales. Before reaching the garden, there’s a covered lanai furnished with rustic-style outdoor furniture, both on the left and right sides. The garden was full of different kinds of roses and tulips.     Mia took me to the gazebo, located on the right side of the garden where the others are waiting. As we closed our distance to the gazebo, Dylan turned to us and locked gaze with me. I froze, and my heart was beating fast. I wanted to look away, but I couldn’t. Then I heard a voice “Mate!”. The voice sent me back to reality and turned to Mia. “Did you say something?” I asked Mia and turned to face me. “No, Cai, actually, I was about to say something because you suddenly stopped walking,” Mia said. “I know you’re nervous, but don’t worry, ok? I will always be on your side.” She put her arms around my left arm and started dragging me towards the group.     “Good morning, guys! I would like you to meet our guest of honor, Cailean!” She said, and I can hear a high level of enthusiasm in the way she said it.    “So Cai, this is Jean, and Lance the lovebirds.” As Mia started the introduction. I gave them a smile, and they smiled back. “This is Greg, the girl magnet.” He smiled at me and gave me a playful wink. I smiled back and heard a growl. My body stiffened when I listened to the growl. I tried to look for the sound source, but Mia continued with the introduction like she hasn’t heard anything, so I let it go.  “This is Bryan the shy guy, Phelan the genius, and of course you met him already, Dylan, the boss!” Both of them gave me a friendly smile. I’m quite surprised that Dylan did, though.    “It’s very nice to meet you all,” I said, giving them the warmest smile I could ever wear, and took my seat. I am sitting just opposite Dylan while Mia is sitting right beside me. I felt uneasy sitting in front of him, so I looked down to avoid his gaze. I can feel his eyes on me, and it made me shiver, not with fear but excitement. Oh my god, what is happening to me? Why am I becoming emotionally unstable all of a sudden? I took the courage to look up and look Dylan straight in the eyes. As soon as we locked our gaze, a sudden realization hit me, my feelings were clear, I like him! Dylan’s POV        As Cailean walked at the breakfast table, I couldn’t take my eyes off of her. She is stunningly beautiful. The dress she’s wearing fits her body perfectly, and the color complements her fair skin. I can feel butterflies waltzing in my stomach like crazy. She looks so perfect!    I kept staring at her, and to my surprise, she never let go of my gaze too, and it gave me hope. I can see different kinds of emotions in her eyes. Admiration and confusion are the most obvious, but there’s no hint of fear nor hate. Maybe I did not screw up after all.    Mia started introducing us one by one. I have no patience for this. All I want is to be with Cailean and talk to her. When Mia introduced Greg to Cailean, I growled at him when I saw him winking at her. Greg chuckled and looked at me and said, “Easy man!” through mind link, but I gave him a deadly glare. “No one can flirt with my mate! Know your place.” I replied through the mind link.     I panicked for a while, thinking that she might have heard me, but when I looked back in her direction, she’s just smiling and getting along with Mia. I gave a sigh of relief and pulled myself together.     After Mia introduced us, I smiled at her, and she smiled back. Well, it was for Phelan and me, but I’ll take it. They took the empty seats opposite me. Cailean is sitting exactly in front of me! This made me nervous, and a lump started to build up in my throat. Mia’s plan was perfect, and she played her part well, the ball is in my hands now, and I should play my role well too. I don’t want to screw this up. Not again!     I noticed that she’s trying to avoid me, and she’d instead look at the plates than my face. The hope I felt earlier has been replaced with disappointment.    I was about to start a conversation with her when I saw that she’s slowly moving her head up. Is she trying to look at me now? I swallowed nervously as I watched her move. As soon as our eyes met, the fire of joy burned my body. I can see it in her eyes, she likes me too!
