Lina's POV
The bastard! He put the phone down in my ear! I am angry but intrigued by the bald older man of about seventy with a long white beard as I picture Marcus Green. I smile. He does not know me at all. I am one tough cookie, and even if I am younger and less experienced than him, I can still show him a thing or two. I bet he does not even know the meaning of new technology and relies on his old methods to help him through our little war. Well, I got a surprise for him. I call Kyle my trusted spy in A&G.
"Kyle, have you seen Mr. Green yet?" I ask.
"No, mam, but we have a meeting with him this afternoon," He says.
"Can you take me a picture of him, please I need to know what I am up against? I will pay you twice as much as usual," I say.
"I sure can do that for you, mam," Kyle says happily. I know he is only loyal to me for the money but who cares. I will be waiting for the photo.
"Oh and Kyle, make sure no one sees you take the photo, because I think he has high security as there are no photos of him on the internet or in the tabloid. So look out for any security around him and send the photo as soon as you take it and then delete it. I do not want you in trouble," I say.
"I will do that for you, mam. Do not worry about me. I can be very sneaky," Kyle says.
I wait. I do not know how late their meeting is or if the security is so good that they will catch Kyle when he tries to take a picture. It is about three, and I have still not heard anything from Kyle. Finally, my phone rings at four, and I see it is Kyle.
"Sorry, mam, you were right I could not take a picture as all our phone, and any other device was taken from us before the meeting, and we only got to meet his secretary as Mr. Green had an emergency and had to go out," Kyle says.
"It is fine, Kyle," I say with a sigh.
"I will pay you in some money anyway for your effort," I am a bit disappointed as I wanted to know what I was up against. It is almost time for the twins to come from school anyway. The twins come running into my office. They are very excited.
"Mom, we won the science fair project. The one you helped us with and the papers were there and took pictures of us with our project," Melinda says.
"Yes, lots of pictures, and it will be in the newspapers tomorrow. Can we buy the newspaper, tomorrow mom?" Lucas, who is hardly excited about anything, asks. I feel my heart stop. I have to stop the photos. What if their father sees them? My heart beats at a hundred miles an hour.
"What newspapers?" I ask.
"Only the newspapers of the schools that took part. School newspapers," Melinda says.
"I know it is not much, but please, mom, can we buy those papers?" Lucas asks. I sigh in relief. I do not think any man will buy a school newspaper.
"Sure, babies, we will buy the school paper tomorrow," I say. I am not thinking of it any further.
The following morning I go drop off my kids at school and pick up the school newspaper. I will have it framed for them, so they will have a cutout framed in their rooms and a newspaper on each of their beds when they get out of school.
Markus' POV
My sister calls me, and she is mad at me, screaming at me. So I had to calm her down to find out what the hell she was talking about. Something about my children being in her children's school paper as they won a science fair and her children's school also took part, so the winner was published in all the school papers that took part in the science fair.
"Emily, sis, calm down and tell me what the f**k you are talking about. I have no children!" I say calmly.
"Well, I have seen the photos for myself, and they are twins, and the boy looks just like you, and the girl is blond but has your eyes! You could have at least trusted me and told me you had kids! I am so disappointed in you, Marcus," She says. I am dumbfounded. I have no idea what my sister is talking about.
"Sis, I do not have children, and you know it. If I had, I would have told you," I say.
"Well, come to my house now, and I will show you the evidence," She says.
"Fine, I will be there in an hour," I say. I have already missed the meeting I wanted with the team of A&G as I had a problem at one of my factories and now this. I think my sister is overreacting, and so far, I did not have a great day. I guess the cat lady from NH&R will have to wait another day before I start taking her on. As I was about to walk out of the door, Jackie storms into my office. Oh great, just what I needed now.
"Baby, I am so sorry about yesterday I was not thinking straight. Can I please have my ring back? We can wait for the wedding until you are ready," She asks.
"No, I am done with you, Jackie O'Conner, sorry, I got things to take care of, and I already threw the ring away," I lied.
"How can you throw my ring away? Did I mean that little to you?" She asks.
"Yes, I can not give a second-hand ring to the woman I am going to marry, can I?" I ask her.
"What woman?" She asks.
"The mother of my children," I say and am thinking of the photo my sister is talking about. I can at least use it to get rid of Jackie. I know I have no children. Or do I? I think of my one-night stand ten years back. Please let it be! If I had kids, I could find my green-eyed girl! If I ever wanted children, it would be with her!
"What are you talking about! I thought you never wanted children!" Jackie shouts at me.
"I never wanted children with you! So get lost," I say as I am very excited to get to my sister's house now.
I walk out of my office with a screaming, crying Jackie behind me. Noah takes care of her before I leave the building through my underground parking. The last thing I want now is a woman putting attention on me.
I drive fast to my sister's house, and as soon as I walk in, she is standing in front of me with a school newspaper. It is in color as all school newspapers are.
"Look at these two children and tell me they are not yours!" She screams at me. I take the newspaper from her, and I look at the two little faces. The boy called Lucas looks just like me, and the little girl has my eyes, but she has her mother's blond hair. So it is my green-eyed girl's kids and mine! I am sure.
"Sis, calm down. I did not know about them, but I know they might be mine. I had a one-night stand with a woman ten years ago, and I have always been looking for her. So I think they might be mine," I say.
"There mother is a Miss Harris, and she is the owner of NH&R. I have been searching her on the internet but no luck," My sister says, and I feel my heart sink to my shoes.
"Then they can not be mine. The girl I had a one-night stand with was married, and she got drunk because her ex-husband chased her out of the house. So she can not be a Miss," I say.
"Oh, you stupid man! Don't you know many women take their maiden name back after a divorce, and she might use the miss to mislead other people? So what was her name?" Emily asks.
"She told me to choose a name for her, and I called her Linda. She said that night I was so close to her real name. Miss Harrison is my biggest competitor at this moment, and I do not think she is the mother of my children," I say.
"Uncle Marcus! There is someone on video call who wants to talk to you. I got the number of the twins from their school, and they really want to talk to you as they do not know who their father is," My oldest niece says as she comes running down the stairs. I want to decline, but the cellphone is pressed into my hand, and an angel face is looking at me before I can.
"Are you my daddy?" The young girl asks.
"I don't know," I say.
"Well, you look just like my brother Lucas," The little girl says.
"Let me talk to Lucas then," I say with a smile as I already love this little girl even though I am not sure if she is mine. But then, a young boy's face appears before me, and I am stunned he is a mini-me.
"Dad?" He asks.
"I do not know, son, but show me a photo of your mom, and I will confirm," I say. He runs to what looks like his bedroom and takes out a photo of him and his sister with my green-eyed girl! She looks older, and her hair is shorter, but I know her. She is my greed-eyed girl!
"What is your mommy's name?" I ask.
"Nevermind, if you don't know her name, you are not my dad," The little boy says and wants to hang up.
"Wait! Please let me explain why I ask," I say, but the phone has been hung up.
Dammit! I need to find out all I can about Miss Harrison and the twins. I can not leave it like this! I have to find out if she is really my green-eyed girl! But I saw the photo, and I am sure she is. Her green eyes are still the same. I saw it from the picture the boy showed me. Why would he not freak out when I asked him about a photo, but he did when I asked her name. You stupid ass! I shout at myself in my head because they are rich, and he may think this is a scam to trick his mom into paying him off. She probably warned them about scams like that. So what now? What do I do? Fly to New York and scare the living s**t out of all of them. She can probably not even remember me, and that is why she never told her kids about their dad. I tell my sister everything.
"Well, bro. I think the best thing to do right now is for me to fly to New York and make friends with your green-eyed girl. Find out her story and see what I can report back to you," Emily says.
"Yeah, maybe it is not even my green-eyed girl, and all of this is a misunderstanding from our side," I say.
"Maybe or maybe not. Who will know, bro? I am packing for New York, and you, my brother, are moving in with my kids and husband for as long as I am gone," Emily says with a smile.
"Okay, but don't make it longer than a week," I tease.
"If they are yours, then well, you will have to get used to children," She teases me.
I sigh. I do not think they are mine, but they are twins like my sister and me, and they have my eyes, and Lucas, the boy, looks just like me. Damn, what are the chances of them not being mine? To top it all off, her voice did sound familiar on the phone. Now I know why. She can only be my green-eyed girl!
