Monday had come around far too fast. I had toyed with the idea of calling in sick, but figured that would be too obvious considering all three of them had been there on the weekend, they knew how I was feeling, and they knew I had ignored their calls and messages. They knew I was avoiding them, so taking a sick day would be glaringly obvious that it was to do the same. Besides, I needed this job. Yes, it was my brother’s firm, but it was still a job and I needed to be professional. The three of them had done me a huge favor by offering me a job. They were a sought-after company to work for, and they had just let me in without a second thought, so I needed to be grateful for that, and suck it up, be professional and do my best to get on with things.
