“This exercise is going to help you to see that having a partner is vital. Here is how it is going to work, each one of you will take the time to choose a partner. A survival partner. Once you have done this, I am going to divide you into groups of three. Do not take choosing a partner carelessly, as this will be your partner for life,” Felicity smiled at the group of warriors standing before her. She knew that referring to a survival partner was critical, and she could only hope they chose wisely. “Alright wolves, you have an hour,” she nodded at giving her instruction and turned to Jackson. “I feel that you and I would make good partners, but since I am the Luna, it may be best you find yourself a partner out there,” she looked over at the warriors once more and she couldn’t help but feel proud as she watched them.
“Actually, I feel we would make good partners as well, and I won’t be able to choose one out there,” he nodded over at the group. “Because once they are all paired up, that’s it, there isn’t an extra wolf over there for me,”
“Well, in that case, howdy partner,” she teased playfully whilst giving him a big smile. She was quite fond of Jackson. Her survival partner at Night Drifters pack would have had to find a replacement. As warriors, you have a partner for three reasons, someone to watch your back, someone to assist with senses and lastly, someone to assist with staying alive. Felicity scanned the crowd and saw how the wolves slowly started pairing up.
“I’ve heard about having a survival partner but that’s about it,” Jackson commented.
“Yeah, my dad, he created the concept. We were out training and one of the wolves got left behind in the woods. He had fallen carelessly, and no one noticed until we were all back at the training grounds. We searched the woods, but nightfall had fallen upon us so quickly, so it slowed us down, it took us about three hours to retrace our steps to find him,”
“So, you found him?” Jackson asked.
“Yeah, we did, but he was dead,”
“Wait? What? How?”
“The fall had left him defenseless; his leg had been broken in three places and he had hit his head really hard. He lost so much blood. His wolf was weak, we still don’t know the reason for that, but because of it, he wasn’t healing. By the time we found him, the critters of the night had started to feed off him. It was not a pretty sight,” Felicity shuddered at the memory. “Anyway, so my dad came up with this concept of having a survival partner, someone to watch your back, someone to assist with senses and to assist with staying alive. Once we established that, training became a lot more challenging, because now it wasn’t just about you but about your partner too,” she stopped as she noticed the wolves had finished pairing up.
“What now?” Jackson whispered in her ear.
“You’ll see,” she whispered back. “Ok, so now that you have your partners, I want you to split into groups of three, do it now,” she told them and waited as they split into the groups of three. “Right, now I want you all to listen very carefully, the purpose of having a survival partner is of course to survive. Hunters hunt in groups, never alone. Don’t underestimate that, rogues hunt however they feel like but are never far from one or two other rogues. Group one,” she looked at the group closest to her. “Today your sole purpose is to stay alive, don’t get caught and don’t get hurt. Group two,” She looked over at the next group. “Today you are the middle man, and this is the hardest to be or do. You are the hunted and the hunters. Group three,” she looked at the last group. “Today you are the hunters, your sole purpose is to capture each and every one of them,” she pointed at the other two groups. “Group One, do you understand your mission?”
“Yes Luna,” they shouted out.
“Good, go and grab survival kits and return here,” the small group left, and she turned to the second group. “Group two, although you need to survive, you won’t be given any survival kits, you must not get caught but you can search and track down others, do you understand your mission?”
“Yes Luna,” they shouted out and she finally looked at the last group.
“Group three, go and gear up, get ready to hunt, do you understand your mission?”
“Yes Luna,” they shouted out before they ran off to gear up. Group one had returned with their survival kits. Felicity turned to Jackson.
“Do you have colored flags?” she asked him, and he quickly nodded before running off. He came back with the last group carrying three bags. She took one bag from him. “Come forward group one,” as each member came forward, she handed them a red flag, when each of them had one, she smiled at them. “Alright group one, is red, come forward group two,” she instructed as she took the second bag from Jackson. Each member came forward and she handed them a green flag. “Group two is green, come forward to the last group,” she told them. She took the last bag from Jackson and smiled wickedly at him as she handed him a white flag, she took one out for herself and then handed one to each of the last group members. “Group three is white, now does everyone have a flag?”
“Yes, Luna,”
“Alright, now for the rules, no one is to hurt a fellow wolf, your gear group three, is, of course, paintball guns, have fun with that,” she winked out at the group who all looked eager to get going. “Group one, you have a twenty-minute head start, hide, run, do whatever it takes not to be found, stick to your survival partner or in groups of four, your choice,” she looked down at her watch and then called out. “Time starts now! Go!” she watched as group one grabbed their kits and ran towards the woods. Jackson returned with their gear and she smiled in thanks. “Group two, you can hunt group one or group three, but be warned, if you get caught, its game over,” they nodded eagerly. When the twenty minutes where up she gave them the go-ahead and they rushed towards the woods. “Group three, our mission is to track down, capture or hit group one and two, don’t get caught, don’t allow your gear to be stolen,” she waited for a further twenty minutes and then she smiled. “Right team let’s go!” she grabbed her gear and they all made their way to the woods. The minute they entered, the group split into their pairs and she was alone with Jackson.

Warren watched from his office window as Felicity disappeared into the woods with the group. She had explained to him about the exercise she wanted to run and had given him strict instructions. Three guards had been posted at the towers and the security team had already been given the additional mission. He smiled as he thought about his mate, she was a force to be reckoned with and he wished he could’ve been a part of this exercise, but Felicity had promised that next time he could be. He turned away from the window and sat back down at his desk. He still had a lot of paperwork to go through and although Jason had kept things in order whilst he had been away, there was a lot he needed to catch up on.
Warren stretched out lazily as he got up from his chair. Felicity had invested in a really comfortable office chair but sitting for so long wasn’t comfortable, to say the least.
“Jason, what is the status?” he mind-linked his beta.
“Four have come back already after being hit,” he announced, and Warren wondered who had shot those four.
“Where are they now?”
“In the dining room,” came the reply. Warren made his way to the dining room and spotted the four warriors stuffing fried chicken into their mouths.
“Well, well, well, tell me, boys, how’d the exercise go?” he asked them, they gave him sheepish grins.
“Luna is one hell of a tracker, my partner and I,” Brent informed him and nodded over to Harry, who Warren assumed was his partner. “We made our way to the river and washed before rolling around in the mud to disguise our scent. We covered our tracks and hid out, not staying too long in one place, but yeah, ultimately Luna caught us, unexpectedly but yeah,” Warren could see that both Brent and Harry were unhappy at being caught.
“And so early too, the exercise is for three days,” Warren commented.
“f*****g sucks to be out on day one but as Brent said, Luna is one hell of a tracker,” Harry remarked, and Warren beamed with pride. Felicity had barely mentioned her love for being a warrior, but she hadn’t mentioned any of her skills. He looked over at the other two.
“What about you?” He noticed that Brent and Harry had red flags attached to their vests and Max and Logan had green flags. “The color flags mean what?” he asked curiously.
“We where group one, red flag, we got the survival kit,” Harry explained. Warren remembered Felicity explaining about the three groups.
“Logan got caught trying to steal gear from Oliver, and I got caught trying to help,” Max explained. Warren couldn’t help but laugh.
“Well, I think for the first run, you guys didn’t do too badly,” Out of the sixty-odd members they had, the half where warriors. “Four down, twenty-six to go,” he commented.
“Make that twenty to go,” Kyle remarked as he and five others entered the dining room. Warren smirked as he checked their color tags, red and green.
“What color are the hunters?” he asked.
“White,” replied Max.
“Ah, well come on in guys and get some grub,” Warren also sat down, listening to how they had gotten caught. Felicity had sent home seven out of ten wolves and he was so impressed. She was a great hunter, but he had to wonder how handy her skills were when it came to hiding.
“Jackson and Felicity make one hell of a f*****g team,” another wolf commented. He was new to the pack and Warren couldn’t remember his name. Wyclef paced angrily at the mention of their mate being teamed up with another male, but Warren pushed aside the jealousy. He continued listening to their tales as he finished eating his food. When he was done, he bid them goodnight and retired to his bedroom.
“All guards in place?” he mind-linked Jason.
“Yes, alpha,”
“Good work, I’m heading to bed,” he informed him.
“Alright, goodnight Alpha,”
“Goodnight,” he stripped and went into the bathroom. He took a shower and enjoyed the relaxing moments before he heard loud noises coming from downstairs.
“What’s going on?” he opened the mind-link to his pack.
“Another two just got back,” Max or Kyle informed him. Warren chuckled and closed the link as he stepped out of the shower and dried himself. Slipping into bed, he wished once again he could’ve joined them, but he respected Felicity’s wishes.
“She wanted to be with him,” Wyclef sneered, and Warren chose to ignore that comment as he closed his eyes.

Felicity crunched down as she scanned the area. She had picked up a scent and Jackson had been following it for easily thirty minutes. Maybe longer. It was dark now and getting cold. She wanted to make camp, but she knew that they couldn’t. Jackson tapped on her shoulder and she turned to look at him.
“This way,” he whispered so softly that if she hadn’t been a wolf she wouldn’t have heard. She followed him silently as they made their way from tree to tree. The scent got stronger and she went left, feeling in her gut that this was the way. She hadn’t let Jackson know and she cursed herself for not having the link with him. She couldn’t back away now regardless. She stopped to listen, and she could hear the two wolves quietly discussing their next move. She lifted the paint gun and aimed at the one that had his back to her. Boom! She hit him in the center of his back. She saw the other one stand up looking around and she didn’t hesitate to shoot him in the shoulder. Boom!
“Ah! Come on!” the one yelled and she smirked.
“Nice shooting,” Jackson complimented her, and she turned to him in surprise.
“When?”
“I heard the first shot and came running, I didn’t realize you weren’t with me anymore, why didn’t you say something?” he asked her. She felt guilty for leaving her partner.
“I forget about us not having a link,” she informed him, and he nodded in understanding. They made their way over to the two wolves.
“Luna, Jackson,” they greeted, and she smiled.
“Sorry boys, but you’re out,” they didn’t look happy but regardless they packed up their stuff and left.
“How many left?” Jackson asked. Felicity wasn’t sure, as she and Jackson weren’t the only hunters.
“Mind-link Jason, he is the one keeping tabs, inform him another two are coming back,” she watched as Jackson did his thing.
“Four left from group one, the red team and two left from group two, green team,”
“Almost done, that’s awesome but also concerning,” Felicity thought about the numbers and realized there was still a lot of training that needed to be done.
“Oh, scratch that, group two is all done,” Felicity smiled at the news. They were close, she was proud of her team regardless. A lot of work still needed to be done, but she had no problem in helping them train.
“Felicity,” Jackson whispered fiercely, and she looked in the direction he was pointing in. The last four wolves were talking about a plan and she could see other members of the white team inching forward. She wished those four weren’t being so loud. She held Jackson back, wanting her other team members to take the shots. Boom! Boom! Boom! One had gotten away and was running fast. Felicity let Jackson go and the ten of them ran after that last wolf. Suddenly the loud sound rang through the forest. Boom! Followed by: “Oh f**k!”
“Well done white team!” Felicity shouted out. Jackson pulled her into a hug, and she stiffened in his arms. Neither she nor her wolf was impressed with his embrace, but she gave him a weak smile when he let her go. She turned to see the other wolves standing around. “You guys did awesomely, showed some serious mad ass hunting skills! Come on, let’s head back,” they nodded and tiredly they made their way back to the packhouse. Jackson never left her side and she wondered if he maybe had the wrong idea about their friendship. She shrugged it off as being a bit paranoid.
“Aren’t you going to join us?” Jackson asked her as she was just about to head upstairs. The group had stopped to look at her and she shook her head.
“No, you guys go, enjoy your victory, I’m exhausted,” she explained before turning back and going upstairs. She could feel someone was still watching her, but she ignored it and entered her bedroom. She giggled when she heard Warren’s loud snores and quietly made her way to the bathroom to take a much-needed shower. She was dirty and sweaty.

Jackson watched her until he couldn’t see her anymore. He was disappointed that the exercise hadn’t gone on longer. He loved being in her presence and watching her hunt was not only amazing but a major turn on. He waved over at the warriors and headed out back to his home in the village. He was exhausted but he was too hyped up to sleep. He undressed and turned on the shower. Feeling the water cascade over his body was relaxing and he closed his eyes, thinking about Felicity and how damn fine she was. He wanted her. He wanted her badly. He didn’t even realize he was stoking himself until he shot his load against the shower door. Opening his eyes, he shook his head.
“Get a grip Jackson!” he scolded himself. He needed to get over this crush on Felicity and he needed to do it fast.
