Maddox's POV
I sit in my chair with the silver arrow head before me. This looks like it is specially designed. At the tip of the arrow, there are tiny spaces that can hold wolfsbane when the arrow is dipped in it.
So someone knows so much about werewolves before creating an entire army of werewolf hunters. I gulp down another glass of whiskey, still looking at the arrowhead. How something this small is taking down my race right now.
I am not talking about one continent. Everywhere across the world, the werewolves are afraid of the revealing identity. The mass murders and hunt because of the werewolf hunters. It is slowly getting out of hand.
I place the arrow head in the drawer of the table and I walk towards the pack house. It is long past midnight and I don't feel sleepy. I take a shower and fall on the bed with nothing on me. It is slightly warm tonight and I stare at the crescent moon until I fall asleep.

I wake up with a headache thanks to sleeping with my hair still damp. I get up and get everything done quickly. If I need to persuade Zelda to come out with me by Sunday, then I should start it by now already.
I have breakfast with Ian and tell him about my plan. With The Vampire King and Zelda too. He should start knowing if he is going to be the Alpha to this pack in no time.
"But why Zelda?" Ian asks me as he has his breakfast.
"Maybe because she already feels sorry and I have a chance to at least use that for myself?" I ask him back and he nods.
"But let me tell you brother, human girls are fragile. Before you know it, they fall in love with you" he says.
"In that case I will make sure to be on my best behavior" I say making him chuckle.
My best behavior is always when I am the grumpiest. Dad joins us for breakfast and it is the usual, we make small talk here and there. I end up driving Ian again because this time, I gotta talk to Zelda.
"Okay if you want to get close to Zelda, then I guess I have a tip for you" Ian says as I drive and I nod asking him to tell me already.
"She is exceptionally close to her sister. They do pretty much everything together. So try getting close to Ophelia. You'll automatically get close to Zelda" Ian says.
I think about it for a minute.
"Why cannot I just get close to Zelda directly?" I ask him and he shakes his head.
"Because she is popular among students. She rejected almost a quarter population of the college boys and did you see her standards? She wouldn't pay attention to you, brother" Ian says.
"Oh! I smell a challenge, brother. I am all up for it" I say.
"Will see then. What will the winner get?" Ian asks and I wonder why he is so confident.
"If you win, I would take up the Alpha title" Ian says and I narrow my eyes at him.
"That is something you should do when you want to. Not when you lost a stupid bet, which you'll definitely lose by the way," I pause and drive towards the parking lot.
"How about you don't talk about economics to me for a week?" I ask and he acts all offended until he smirks and nods.
If you know Ian, that means you know his smirk can sometimes be dangerous. He smirks exactly before spilling beans or when he is about to declare a war.
I stop the car and look at him, asking him to tell me what his betting is on.
"If I win I get to drive this car for a week" he says and that is when I realize this is far worse than him declaring a war against me.
"You can't do this," I whisper.
"Oh! You are so confident about your win, brother. Then you have got nothing to worry about" Ian smirks.
And right at this moment, I feel terrible about being the big brother. Because no matter what, I look at my sibling's faces and I just cannot say no.
I take a deep breath and nod at him before getting down. I walk to the library and Ian tells something to the librarian before walking away to his class. So I guess I can sit here until she shows up.
I grab another romance book and sit in the same spot I did the last time. Just a few pages into it, and a girl sits before me. I look at her and she smiles at me. I smile back and get back to reading again.
"Hello" she whispers and I smile again with a nod. I look around to see if Zelda is coming but she is not.
"I never saw you around" she whispers again and I try my best to focus on reading because I have no intention of talking.
Right at that moment, Zelda walks in with a frown on her face. But when she notices me, she actually smiles wide. No one has ever had that reaction when they saw me except for Ian and Kelsie. Everyone else is just bowing their heads already.
"Oh My God! Didn't expect to see you here again" Zelda almost screams but the librarian shushes her. She apologizes and walks to me.
"Yeah. Waiting for Ian. What are you doing here?" I whisper, asking her. She is about to sit beside the girl who was annoying me earlier but the girl wouldn't budge or give her some space.
Zelda rolls her eyes and walks around, to sit beside me and I don't know why but even that seems intriguing to me right now.
She takes a glance at the book I am reading, takes that into her hand and starts telling me about the story. I have no idea what is so intriguing about her, but she is different. Someone who can fight and is still fragile for me to rescue. Maybe girls like that are exactly my type. I don't know.
"And she has a silver arrow head" Ajax quickly says and my face straightens again.
She has a silver arrow head. I should keep that in mind.
"So if you see through that point, I don't think it is love that they had. They just thought they were because the pair was good on paper. Not in reality" she says and I nod.
"And then comes the one. Hardin Scott" she says.
"You are telling me Tessa leaves someone like Noah because she falls in love with Hardin?" I ask her and she nods.
"Well he is an asshole" I say but she just laughs.
"That's the point. Not every girl is into good boys who would provide for them and make them feel special. Sometimes it is all about the spark. The fire. The spontaneity" Zelda says.
I just look at her and nod.
"So how come you are here and not in your class?" I ask her.
"Well, Mr. Bohen kicked me out. I guess he is still holding the grudge" she says with a frown and I instantly get it that Ian sent her on purpose.
"What else do you have for the day?" I ask her.
"So much but I don't have the mood to do all of it anymore" she says and I nod.
"Shall we go out?" I ask and she narrows her eyes at me.
"Out as in?" She asks and the girl before me clears her throat.
"Out as in out. We can drive around and grab lunch" I say.
"As much as I would love to, I don't think so" she says and gives me back the book and walks to the fantasy genre section.
Okay Zelda just turned me down. Alright. I think I have till afternoon to change her mind or I will have to give my car to Ian. Something I don't want.
I wait for her to choose a book and come back. She does and sits by my side again. She smiles at me as if she did not turn me down a minute ago. I smile back at her and look at the book in my hand.
I lost interest in this book now that she told me Tessa and Noah are going to break up.
"How about this weekend?" I asked her again.
Zelda closes the book and looks at me. She raises her eyebrow and tucks a few strands of her hair behind her ear.
"I am so sorry. But I don't even know you to be going out with you" she says and this time, the librarian shushes us with an angry look on his face.
"Let's at least get out of here. We cannot talk" I say and she looks at the librarian before she nods.
She talks to the librarian before signing on a register and shoves the book into her bag. I take a small sneak peek and I don't see any arrow heads this time.
We both walk to my car and sit in it. We didn't go anywhere, we just sat in it. She pulls out the book she bought from the library and opens it.
"What is this about?" I ask her.
"I don't know. The cover seemed pretty so I just bought it" she says and I read the title.
"What kind of title is that!! Creepy" I say but she just laughs.
The title says 'The Orenda' and I don't even know what the Orenda means. These humans write anything and everything, naming it as a fantasy novel and bagging money out of it.
We are silent as she puts her blonde hair in a bun. I don't know why, but I just sat there watching her. I know there are more important issues to deal with. But I don't even know how to start a conversation with her.
"Ugh! This is not at all interesting" she says just after a few minutes and I smile inside.
Moon Goddess finally decided to help me.
"I thought so, the title itself is creepy" I say and she laughs.
"So Ophelia and you are sisters? I did not see that coming" I say and she just smiles.
"She is one year younger than me. My entire life revolves around her. Ophelia doesn't talk to anyone much and the one time she did and agreed to go to a party, you know what happened" she says and I nod.
"She trusts people so easily, Mr. Bohen. Maybe that is another reason why I always want to stand before her as a shield. As much as I don't trust anyone, she trusts everyone" she says again.
"Trust me I understand this. Ian was like that too. And we both have a little sister, Kelsie. We were like that to her too" I say and she nods with a smile.
"By the way you can call me Maddox" I say and she nods.
She pulls out sandwiches she brought for lunch and we share them. We eat, laugh as we talk about most silly topics and even have a debate on what it is like being the older sibling.
Zelda has this aura around her that is much like Deborah's but still unique. In a good way. Maybe that is why I like talking to this girl.
"So.. what are your hobbies?" I ask her.
"Books, books and more books" she says and I chuckle. I signal Ajax to use his werewolf senses for the next question I am about to ask her.
"What about hunting?" I ask her.
"Anyone who hunts animals should be hanged in my opinion. Just two days ago, I went back to Nathan's place to get my purse because I forgot it there.. I saw the boys with hunting weapons. I had a fight, broke a few and walked out" she says and I nod.
"True. Her heartbeat didn't even miss a beat" Ajax quickly says.
So I guess Nathan and his friends know what they were doing. Because she went for the bag and had a fight because of those weapons, she had one in her bag accidentally.
Makes sense. Someone like Zelda wouldn't do it anyway. I don't know why I am taking her side, but I just am.
I don't even know how the time passed, but when I see Ian.. I groan. He smirks as he walks towards the car. Zelda and I get down and she greets Ian with an apologetic smile.
"So did you two go out?" Ian asks with a smirk.
"Why would we, Mr. Bohen?" Zelda says and that answer alone is enough for Ian.
He extended his arm and I just had to give him the keys. Zelda quickly greets us bye and meets her sister. Ophelia smiles and waves at me before walking away with her sister.
I groan and sit in the passenger seat of my car. Ian drives like a mad man and I just couldn't resist anymore. I was about to scream but Ian slowed down for my sake.
"So what do you think? Will she come with you on Sunday?" Ian asks.
"I should probably talk to Ophelia" I say with a straight face making Ian smirk as he shakes his head almost saying ``I told you so.
"She is tough yet fragile" I whisper and look out of the window.
Now that the possibility of her being a werewolf huntress is off the table, maybe I can get close to her. But even for that, I need to get close to Ophelia first.
She said Ophelia is different and trusts easily. I should handle this delicately.
