Kyle's POV
Two days passed in a blur. I couldn't stop thinking about those pretty grey eyes. They were in my dreams making my desire to meet her again grow.
I did try looking for the blonde girl but to no avail. It was like she disappeared into thin air.
Okay that was dramatic. I just didn't know where she lived.
"Why the gloomy face human?" Tim asked from beside me. We had to deliver one letter and collect another. It was a light work day so once we were done, I had to go back to the castle and help the other delivery people to sort out more letters.
"I'm not gloomy at all." I said indignantly. Since we only had two stops, Tim and I decided to simply walk. He was wearing a cap because he didn't like the guarded looks he normally received from the humans. They were always wary of vampires and I didn't really blame them.
"I know gloomy when I see it. What's the matter?" He asked me again.
"Huh? It's nothing really." I shrugged it off.
Once we reached the main square, we walked along a row of small shops on the left side. I stopped when I saw a simple clothes shop owned by a certain Mr. Remmy.
"Sir Robins. Good morning!" The owner stopped his needle work and greeted me with much enthusiasm.
"Morning. Here you go." I took out his letter from my bag and handed it over to the eager man. He tore it open before he could even say thank you. Let's just say he was a very happy man when we left the shop.
"Where's the next stop?"
"I'm not sure about this. It's three rows behind and it doesn't seem like a house." I answered Tim flatly. He quietly followed me to our next stop.
After a while he looked at me with those curious eyes again. "Come on human, you were so happy two days ago. Especially when you almost ran over that woman. Wait, is she the reason why you're so down in the mouth?"
I could feel my cheeks heating up so I quickly looked to my left, avoiding Tim's gaze.
"I knew it. You have a childish crush." Tim muttered.
"Whoa! What?! You don't get to use the word childish you child!"
"So it is her."
"Maybe. So what if it is? It's not childish. I thought she was pretty and quite brave. There's something special about her."
"Then why do you feel so terrible?"
"Because I can't find her."
"So you like someone you just met? And that someone is already taking over your mind?" Tim raised a brow and looked at me accusingly.
I absentmindedly touched the side of my head. "Are you....?"
He just gave me that look which said 'I don't have to.'
"Liking her means I just wanna be friends first. There's no harm in wanting to be friends." The brat scanned me from head to know, obviously skeptical about everything I said. Errghh sometimes I felt like I was talking to a f*****g grown up.
Just when I thought of a sassy reply, his eyes flickered behind me for a split second.
"I found her. She's over there." He looked at me playfully and suddenly pointed behind me while we came close to our next stop.
Feeling infuriated, I glared at him. "It's not funny okay!" I gritted out.
"I'm not lying human." He said firmly.
"Of course not. You just expected me to turn around and snap my own neck. Then once I've done it I would hear your booming laughter." I crossed my arms over my chest.
"Whatever you say." The little brat shrugged and continued to look at me. I continued to glare at him and soon we were having a staring contest.
"I won't look." I grumbled.
"Yes you will." The brat said flatly as if this was going to be an easy win for him.
"No I won't."
"Any second now."
With that I turned around.
Shit.
He wasn't lying.
She was there. I recognized her luscious blonde hair immediately. She was facing a little girl and talking to her. That woman had a gorgeous smile on her face as she listened to the child explaining about something.
What if it was her daughter?!
No, no she was too young to have a kid.
I could feel my heartbeat quicken. She was so beautiful. Then I realized that it was our stop.
This was our stop?!!
Means it was finally time to talk to her. This letter must be for her. But my heart was pounding. I was so f*****g nervous. What do I say to her?
That's when I looked around and fully understood where we were standing. This wasn't a house. This wasn't a shop.
"Damn this is a nightmare." I shuddered as I looked what stood before me. The place was filled with the cries of the innocent. Were they being tortured inside this run down building?
That must be the case.
"Why aren't you going inside? Are you afraid of schools?" The brat hit my arm.
Yeah I guess it was a school.
It looked terrible. But bearable for a make shift school. Children littered everywhere. Some were mindlessly running around and laughing for no apparent reason. All of them were so loud.
"Would you at least walk in already?!" Tim scolded me while he shoved me through the rusted gates that were hanging off its hinges.
I let my nervous feet take me towards the beautiful blonde girl. Now, she was openly laughing at something the child had said. The crinkles at the corners or her eyes and her rosy cheeks made her look adorable.
As I wobbled closer, she stood up straight and stared at me with those grey eyes. They immediately widened and the first thing she did was push the child behind her protectively. She then looked back and whispered a few words. The next thing I saw was the little girl running inside the run down building.
"Good morning sir." She greeted me with a hint of dread.
"Good morning. I um....I have a letter?" I stupidly asked her. My brows were beginning to sweat and when the f**k did I start stuttering?!
She nodded meekly and reached her delicate right hand towards me. Without thinking twice, I too reached out and shook her hand. Her eyes observed our hands for a moment and looked up at me confused.
The little brat smacked his forehead before sending me a glared.
"She means the letter!" He gritted out.
I could have sworn my face looked redder than a watermelon.
"Oh....shit....I mean....of course. Wow!" I quickly dug into my bag and looked took out the letter. I knew damn well that the little brat was going to tease me about this for the rest of my life. I stole a glance at her face as I gave her the letter. It was only for a brief moment but I caught the laughter in her eyes.
I have made a fool out of myself and she was silently laughing at me.
Good job Kyle.
She took the letter and read the address.
"Sir, this is for the principle. Do you wish to give this letter to him yourself or shall I? I assure you, it is not a problem for me to give my boss this letter."
In this line of work, letters are not to be given to a third party. Unless the addressed is dead or truly unable to receive the letter by him or herself.
"I think it would be best if I gave it to the principle myself."
"Alright then, this way." She politely spoke as soon as she handed the letter back to me. "And please watch your heads."
She took us inside the old building. The paint on the walls were either discolored or coming off. The classrooms looked old and they all had this dingy atmosphere. It was way worse than I thought.
She led through the main hallway and there was an office at the end of it.
"This is all we can afford for now." She said sensing my thoughts. Tim quietly followed us.
She finally led us inside the office. It was smaller than any room and consisted of a small cupboard, a table and two wooden chairs. Everything else was grey and bland. It was also very creepy.
Looking straight ahead, I saw an elderly man sitting behind the old desk.
He had white hair, and a wrinkly face. He was also skinny and frail. However, the look on his eyes said otherwise. They were a steely dark brown that carried years of bitter experiences. One look at him and I knew he was a tough old man.
"Good morning Mr. Robins. What do you have for me?" He stood up and greeted me. He didn't bow like other humans did. He knew who he was. A highly educated, well respected elderly man. He wasn't going to bow down to just anyone.
"Here you go Mr. Rhysand." I handed the letter over to him.
"That will be all. Good day to you Mr. Rhysand." I wanted to get out of this place.
"Thank you young man. Would you kindly show them out?" The principal looked towards the blonde girl.
She simply nodded and looked at me.
"This way sir." She said politely. When we finally walked out of the building, Tim sighed and took off his cap due to the stuffiness inside.
Bad idea.
The moment he showed his face, the girl gasped in shock and took two steps back. Tim's sharp features said it all.
"You....you're a..... you're a....." She couldn't even finish her sentence and after that she didn't bother to. She just gaped at Tim and slowly her eyes darted from him to me.
"Y...your Highness." She whispered and bowed.
Hmmm, so she knew who he was. Great. Just f*****g great.
"You may stand." He grumbled and looked at me, silently ordering me to leave this place at once. I ignored him and looked at the girl instead. She was way more approachable and carefree when we first met. Now knowing that a pure blood prince was close, she was fully guarded.
I couldn't help but notice how she would nervously look at Tim from time to time. She wanted to stay as far away from him as possible. I bet she, like most humans had horrific experiences with the vampires that were always above us. She couldn't understand that Tim was just like all the other children in Red Kingdom.
Wanting to ease her worries, I took a small step towards her. It worked. I had her full attention now. What's next? Small talk? Yeah that's it.
"Thank you for showing us into the office. What is this place?"
"A...a school?" She looked at me oddly.
"Ahh, I see. So, you teach?"
"Yes I do. Children aged eight to eleven." She nervously answered me.
"I've not met many teachers in Red Kingdom." I made it a point to sound casual and friendly but it didn't seem to ease her nerves.
She just continued to speak stiffly.
"There are a few others. Most of us are not officially certified. We just help out and contribute anyway we can. The certified teachers teach the older students."
"Are you....?"
"Yes, Mr. Rhysand is training me to be a teacher."
"That's great." I said and just stared at her pretty grey eyes. I didn't know how to prolong the conversation so we both stayed quiet.
"I'm sorry sir, I have to attend to the children." She said slowly. She wasn't sorry at all that much I could tell.
"Yeah okay. I do hope to see you around." I smiled like an i***t before walking towards Tim. She gave me an awkward nod and rushed into the building.
"You took your damn time." The brat grumbled as we walked back towards the castle.
"She's not interested in me in the slightest!"
"Why would she?! She just met you!"
"Let me rephrase. It's not only that she isn't interested. I really think she doesn't like me."
"Who cares what she thinks? There are plenty of other young women in Red Kingdom. Why would you narrow them all to one? That's just unintelligent." The brat huffed and walked with his cap secured over his neat blonde hair.
"Why are you being like this?" I grumbled.
"Open to other possibilities?" He raised a brow at me.
"I want to get to know her Tim and I will. I think I'm attracted to her. I don't know what I feel but there's only one way to find out. I have to get to know her." I said more to myself.
The little brat rolled his eyes and eyed a nearby candy store.
"No." I grumbled
"Just because you think your day was bad doesn't mean mine has to be." He sassed and ran inside the shop that was located opposite the road.
~~~~~~~~~
The next day I woke up with determination. I did my collecting and delivering work as fast as possible. I needed to see her again and that was exactly what I was going to do. The little brat constantly reminded me of how I made a fool out of myself the day before. I chose to ignore his insults.
After collecting the last of the letters from the town square, I drove my carriage to the castle to drop Tim off.
"I'm going to see her, Tim." I stated for the ninth time.
"Is that why you drove your carriage like some race car?! Is that why you put my life in danger today?!"
"You're a royal pure blood vampire! What's the worst thing that could happen to you?!"
"A lot!! I could have fell into a puddle of mud and ruined my clothes!"
"But did you? No! Did you get hurt? No! Did you die? No! So get over it! Now go do some studying while I go to the school again."
"To embarrass yourself?" He snarked.
"You be careful with that tongue of yours, you spoilt brat. I'll see you tomorrow." I then left the castle with a very smug looking vampire. He looked as if he knew I was going to do something stupid.
I shook my head along with the many negative possibilities.
~~~~~
"This is it. She should be here or around this place." I muttered to myself. The terrible looking school was mostly quiet so I assumed classes were ongoing.
I always felt bad about not being able to get myself properly educated but after looking at the building before me, and listening to the horrible screeching yesterday, I am grateful I wasn't stuck in a place like this.
Ewww.
After an hour of waiting, I couldn't take it anymore. How long does a child need to study?! I mean what do they teach the kids in there? For five f*****g hours!
Just then I saw a passerby and stopped him. He looked to be around my age and turns out he wasn't passing by. He was there to pick up his little sister.
"What time does it end?" I almost snapped at him.
"Um, in about ten minutes sir." He said slowly, studying me from head to toe.
Oh right. The uniform.
"Err thanks." I muttered and continued to wait.
Thankfully it didn't take long. Ten minutes later the children of all ages poured out through the front doors. It looked as if the damaged building was leaking!
I immediately stepped to the side, away from the front gates. They ran out of school screeching, laughing, and talking loudly for no reason.
"Okay get lost you little midgets." I whispered to myself as my eyes searched the compound looking for a certain blonde beauty. "Where are you? Where are you?"
I continued to look around but all I could see were kids. I sighed and walked into the compound. I zig zagged my way through the children effectively avoiding them the best I could.
"Move it!" I sneered at a fat kid who stepped on my foot. He rolled his eyes at me before moving away.
Who does he think he is?!
I showed him my fist and walked further into the compound, right until I was standing in the centre.
"Great job Kyle. She's not here, now get out before you murder one of these midgets." I muttered. Just then I heard the most irritating whine ever.
"Miss Vidarr! Miss Vidarr help me!" I groaned and glared at the little girl with that screechy voice that just penetrated my skull. I wanted to tell her to shut up because I was in a shitty mood but obviously I couldn't do that. So I turned around and continued to look for a certain teacher.
Where could she be? Maybe it was her day off? That would totally suck and I'd have to vent out my disappointment to India later on.
"Yes Neirin. What is it this time?" I stopped dead in my tracks and slowly turned around. My body followed the one voice I was dying to listen to. As I fully turned around, I saw her. She rushed towards the whiny little girl and carried her on her hip. Her pretty blonde curls were slightly messier today. I wonder if the kids here made her go crazy.
Nevertheless, her eyes shined with passion and dedication for her job. She listened attentively to Neirin who I presumed was the little girl's name as she went on and on complaining about something. The teacher listened to the girl as if she was having an important conversation with an adult. She would smile at times but otherwise she was focused on the child's blabbering.
I would call it blabbering because I wouldn't listen to a single word.
I patiently waited for their conversation to end. In a way I was envious of young Neirin. She was the centre of her attention.
Must be nice.
I waited for a few more minutes and then finally, she set Neirin on the ground. The child took off running at once. She found a group of girls her age and started playing around with them.
As for the teacher Miss Vidarr, she had her back to me while as she faced Neirin and her friends playing happily. I padded towards her and suddenly stopped a few feet away.
What the f**k am I doing here? How do I explain myself? What do I say to her? How do I start a conversation? Was this creepy? I showed up unannounced! And for what reason?
"Sir? Mr. Robins?"
Shitshitshitshitshitshitshitshit!!!
"Huh? What? Hey I didn't see you there!" I smiled and pretended to look for someone else. She came towards me with a curious expression on her pretty face.
"You're here to pick someone up?" She tilted her head to the side.
"Why else would I be in this place?" I scoffed and looked around.
"I would be very interested to know which student it is. I have never seen you in this part of town Mr. Robins."
"Excuse me miss, for your information I deliver letters for a living. I have been to almost every part of Red Kingdom." I said confidently and stared her down, secretly hoping she wouldn't catch my lie.
"I meant no disrespect sir. Of course you travel a lot. I only meant that I've never seen you here while you're off duty." She said cautiously. I didn't say anything to that because I couldn't find the right words.
"So can I help you with anything? Who are you looking for?" Ahhh s**t. Not this question again. I thought she forgot about all that stuff.
"You know what? There aren't many students here now. I'm starting to think that the boy's mother had already picked him up. I'm going to have a word with that lady! Sending me all the way here for no reason!" I put on my angry face and stared at a distance, hoping it would give me more effect.
"Ahh, I see." Miss Vidarr muttered. I bet she knew I was lying. She had this sparkle in her eyes. Just like yesterday. She was laughing at me.
"Well, it's getting late and they're almost all gone now. It would be a pleasure to show you out sir."
What is with this woman?! One second I amuse her and the next, she wants to be as far away from me as possible.
"Yeah okay. I think that's best. It's just that woman should have told me that she was going to pick her son up. I left early without having any lunch. Do you know any good places nearby?"
The teacher's eyes snapped up to mine in surprise.
"Uh...um... there's one or two along the backstreets. You can try them." She answered quickly as she fastened her pace towards the gates.
Hah! She was trying to throw me out. How adorable.
"I have a confession to make. You were right earlier. I seldom come to this part of Red Kingdom. That being said, I'm not familiar with the streets here. Would you be so kind as to show me around the backstreets? It would be nice and I will give you a ride home myself, I promise. I will be the perfect gentleman."
"Um..." She sucked in a breath and looked at the school building. "That would be nice sir but you see, I have a lot of paperwork to finish. Perhaps some other time. The backstreet isn't hard to find, I'm sure you won't miss it." She tried her best to give me a genuine smile.
There was something about her. She wouldn't mind coming out with me but there was something holding her back. She was afraid of something and I didn't know what it was.
"Do I scare you?" I blurted out.
"Excuse me?!" She spluttered.
"Do I make you uncomfortable? Do I scare you?" I asked again.
"No of course not sir-"
"Kyle. My name is Kyle." I stopped her. The formalities didn't sit well with me.
"I just don't think it's very proper to call you-"
"Damn it lady. It's my name isn't it? Shouldn't it be my choice of what I prefer myself being called?" She looked taken aback by my response and so she looked at her shoes for a few seconds.
"No Kyle, you don't scare me." She whispered.
"Then why does it seem like it?"
"I don't know what you're talking about."
"I just want us to be friends. Are you that angry that I almost hit you the other day? I'm still learning to control my carriage. I always tell Sorin and Selene to take it slow but they never listen. Those horses are really-"
"Your horses?" She asked hesitantly while she raised a brow. "You speak to your horses?"
"Doesn't everyone?"
"Um..." She trailed off not knowing how to place her words. "I suppose so but they don't refer to them the way you do."
"I think people should. My friend encouraged me to speak to Sorin and Selene this way. I'm starting to get a little more response from them."
"Response?" The teacher's eyes widened.
"Not like that! Though it would be amazing wouldn't it? But no. No I don't need that." I think I might have scared myself just by imaging Sorin and Selene talking to me. What would they say? No doubt complain about my horrible driving.
"Sir, K..Kyle are you okay?"
"Yeah...yes. So about today?"
"Maybe next time. I have a lot of work today. I'm sorry. I sure you're busy too. I bet it's hard working for a Royal Pure Blood." I couldn't help but laugh at that.
"He's a handful alright but-"
"Must be hard seeing how your life is always on the line." She said all of a sudden.
"Actually it isn't." I said slowly. "I have it better than most people here."
Her look seemed to have a slight change when I said that.
"Oh?"
"I have a good paying job and a home. So that's really good."
"You enjoy your job, with...with them?"
"Yes, I get to go places and the prince is quite nice once you get to know him. He's the one that helped me with this job." I shrugged.
"Oh I see, well I better get going." She said sounding a bit withdrawn.
Huh. What did I say?
"Alright. Go ahead and finish that work. Soyoucanhavelunchwithmetomorrowbyeeeeee." I quickly rushed out of the gates towards Sorin and Selene.
I didn't know I missed the sparkle in her eyes as I rushed out.

That's all for now. What do you guys think of Miss Vidarr?
