Fated mate

Liana's pov Royce grabs my wrist and questions Rayon’s identity in his devilish tone. “Rayon used to work for my parents.” “Is that so?” He tilts his head. All of a sudden, his arm circles my waist and snuggles me closer. “Nice to meet you, Rayon.” He greets him. “I am Liana's brother.” His deep voice further continues. Rayon bows his head. “Nice to meet you, sir.” The atmosphere doesn't feel good as if something is not right even though nothing wrong catches my eyes. Royce looks at his silver wrist watch. “Let's go back, sister.” He looks at me. I say goodbye to Rayon and leave with Royce in his car. “Are you close with that guy?” He inquires. “Uhm…not really…” “That's good.” A mischievous smirk glints on the corner of his mouth. My forehead wrinkles at that smirk. “Why?” I ask. “You're our precious sister…so as your big brother it's my job to protect you.” He says with a pure smile. Jace said the same thing a few days ago. It makes my heart happy that I have people beside me who truly cares for my well-being even if we're not blood related. But what if they find out my secret? I was born on the night of a rare eclipse that happens once in a hundred years. My rare blue hair color is the result of that eclipse…that's what my parents told me since mom had black long hair and dad had brown hair. People would often question them if I was really their daughter. But for my parents… I was a blessing. A special child born out of two wolves…but is not a wolf herself. Every wolf in our clan was able to transform from the age of six, but not me. Even at the age of 10…I couldn't transform. My wolf was gone, no, it was never there to begin with. Years passed and at the age of 18 my parents finally realized that their blessed daughter was no wolf. They always told our curious neighbors that I have a weak body which doesn't allow me to shift. It was a pretty much convincing excuse for everyone who ever doubted my identity. If the truth comes out… I will be banished from the clan or the worst case scenario…executed in front of the whole clan. Velverine is ruled by five clans and only wolves are welcomed here. Anyone who is not a wolf is considered a threat. Humans, witches, vampires, hunters, angels, ravens, devils, all of them are a threat to Velverine. The five wolf clans in Velverine signed a protection treaty among them to fight together against anyone who is not a wolf or a full wolf. Except for the treaty…they're always at each other's neck. Velverine is a sacred town that is believed to be blessed by the Moon Goddess itself and this is the only reason why everyone wants to rule it. Five Alphas of the five clans rule Velverine together but there's an empty seat in the Rosemary sacred church…for the supreme Alpha. The priest said one day a supreme Alpha will rule Velverine as a sole ruler and all the five clans will kneel to him. Deep inside I just feel like I don't belong anywhere in Velverine but on the other hand something inside my heart tells me that I am more than a human. Maybe not a wolf, but something else?! No matter what happens… My secret should always remain a secret. We arrive at the castle before dinner and step inside together. Everyone else is waiting for us at the table. “Oh! You two were together?” Evelyn smiles. “I just helped out my sister a bit.” Royce answers. “That's really wonderful. Now come and join us for dinner.” Evelyn pulls out my chair next to her. As soon as I take my seat…a glass topples on the black floor and shatters into a thousand pieces. “Oh my God!” My lips mumbles. Jace's palm is bleeding. “You're hurt, brother!” He gets up from his chair and heads towards his room without saying a word. “Don't worry about him, Liana.” Evelyn rubs my back. “He's always like this…gets jealous at every small thing.” Royce taunts looking into my eyes. “What does that mean?” “Jace is offended that I gave you a ride instead of him!” Royce explains. “Your brothers are already so possessive about you.” Evelyn laughs. I am just in shock. *** Later that night… Since he left like that I decided to check on him as a sister should do. *Knock *knock He opens the door without wearing a shirt and twitches a brow at my unexpected presence. I shouldn't have come here at this hour. His abs are all exposed. “Sister?” “Can I come in?” My soft tone asks for his permission. Since things have already come to this, why not just enter the room and have a normal conversation? This is my first time entering one of my brother's rooms because till now it was them who visited my room. He opens the door wide and welcomes me inside without hesitation. His room is dark and filled with his perfume that smells like fresh wood…I like his scent a lot. There's a glass window next to his king size bed and the only light in the room is coming through it. A shiny bright moonlight. “Is your hand okay?” I ask. He shows me his palm and it is already wrapped in a brown bandage. “Why did you do this?” “Brother Royce said you were jealous that he gave me a ride and you couldn't.” His eyes darken and he moves closer. His stark chest touches mine and I feel a few loose strands on the back of my neck slowly rising. “It's true!” “I am the jealous type, sister.” My whole body is tense and my breath is stuck in my throat. He is overpowering me with his strong presence. “I don't want anyone close to my sister, except me.” His lips move to mine and I flinch immediately…he notices the paleness on my face and chuckles. I am clueless!! The direction of his lips slowly changes to my ear...softly brushing through my cold cheek. “Don't make your brother jealous next time or there will be severe consequences.” His sinister voice whispers calmly. My feet step back. *Gulp “Goodnight, brother.” I rush out of his room and a breath slips free of my lips. *** Three hours later in the secret room of the library… Jace's pov All four of us gathered again in the same place to discuss something very important about the mate stone. A mate stone is given to every household for sons to recognize their fated mate. Whenever the son comes close to his fated mate…the white stone turns to a pinkish color. It's been years since we received the mate stone in our house and it never turned pink because we brothers always maintained our distance from women for the sake of our different ambitions. But today just a few seconds ago… It turned pink. “One of us is her fated mate.” I announce. Silence replenishes the air. The fated mate has the highest chances to win the competition but accepting it will only bring death for him. Everyone will eliminate the fated mate first to secure their chances. “Who is it?” I question them. No one replies. The silence is the sign that our bond is no longer stronger…we're now enemies to win her heart.
