An innocent bird

Liana's pov A sudden noise wakes me up from my sleep. I look around my room but there's nothing inside. My lips sucks in a deep breath. I grab my sheet and rest my head on my pillow only to hear the noise again. “Who is here?” “Show yourself!” My voice commands. My gaze shifts to the window as a shadow flashes upon the glass. I slowly approach the window and slide it to the right but nothing suspicious catches my eyes. “Is someone playing a prank on me?” Unexpectedly, someone throws a stone into my room wrapped in a white paper but the person escapes from my gaze. “What?” I walk over to the stone wrapped in a white paper and pick it up in my hand. The white paper is actually a note. “If you want to find out the truth behind your parents’ death then meet me at the fountain park tomorrow at 12 pm and don't tell anyone from the Maxwell family.” I am stunned. Someone knows the truth behind my parents' death. It's dangerous to trust someone without proper knowledge but there is no other choice for me. My parents are dead and I have to find out their murderer by all means…even if it demands putting myself in grave danger by choosing to trust someone unknown. *** Meanwhile… Kayden’s pov The environment in the house has changed and everyone is suspecting everyone. One of us is her fated mate and that's why the mate stone changed color. But who? It's not just Liana in danger but every man who participated in the competition. The competitors try all sorts of tricks and violence to eliminate the other. And the fated mate will be the most targeted one!! It's natural for a wolf to be attracted towards her fated mate compared to anyone else. Not just that, but her parents were murdered and I strongly believe it's one of us. I searched her room when she was out with Royce and found a black card of our secret society. The Night Wolves!! And the fun fact? One card is missing from our collection. Now we brothers are against each other…for the supreme power. The special bond between us is no longer the same and she is our greed to achieve that power we have long craved. No matter what, I will find her fated mate before he wins her heart. Before the mate stone turned pink…Liana went to Jace's room and they spent at least twenty minutes with each other. Don't tell me… Jace is her fated mate? Whoever it is they already have felt the connection with her. He knows very well that Liana is his fated mate but will try his best to hide it from others. Royce takes a sip of his whiskey. “Our sister has a guy friend!” He breaks the news to us. Royce accompanied her to her parents' flower shop in the morning. We made a deal between us that we would report everything to each other despite our differences. “A guy friend?” Jace twitches his brow. “Yeah…his name is Rayon!” He further explains the situation. “And do you think he's a threat?” I ask. A smile glints on Royce’s lips. “Well…the way he looked at our sister…was kind of suspicious!” He mutters softly. Royce is never wrong with his observation. He has a keen eye when it comes to reading faces. “Then who will take care of him?” Jace asks with a devilish smirk on the corner of his mouth. Everyone is silent. No one wants to reveal their card. “Nash?” He points him out. He looks up at Jace and gets up from his chair, grabbing a glass of whiskey. “Why do you always come to me?” His deep voice answers. Rage replenishes my soul and my strength pushes him against the bookshelf aggressively. “You have been acting strange, do you know that?” My voice groans. “Really?” He smirks. “Yes, really!” My arm presses against his neck. “You even lied about her cat being sick!” “Tell me…” “Are you her fated mate? Nash is the most dangerous one among us when it comes to muder people. He's a f*cking psychopath who enjoys blood on his face. We were expecting him to make the first move on her, yet he didn't do anything. He uses his strength and pushes me back with quite a force. “Look who's talking!” “If I am not wrong…you stopped Flerena from touching her clothes in her absence.” Words come out of his mouth. “Were you worried about your mate?” “Kayden? Is that true?” Royce questions. I clench my fist tightly. “It didn't seem right that she was going to touch her clothes in his absence…so that's why, nothing else!” “F*ck! You all are suspicious!” Royce scoffs. “So are you? I mean you were with her the whole day, brother!” My frustrated voice flips back on him. “Enough, guys!” Jace steps forward. “Whoever wants to take care of Rayon…do it before midnight.” Having said that, he leaves the secret room. *** Half an hour later… Liana's pov I couldn't sleep after receiving that note about my parents’ death, so I stepped out in the greenhouse for a walk. My feet step into the Maxwell greenhouse for the first time and it is incredibly beautiful beyond words. Everything around me is green and in the middle there's a glass table with four chairs. The top and the four huge walls are one big glass window. Only the ceiling glass is transparent whereas the glass covering the green house from all four directions is reflective, flashing greenery upon them. My eyes look up at the transparent ceiling and the stars shining above my head bring a smile to my lips. I should have taken a warm shawl…my white lace nightdress is too thin to manage the chilly wind. There are so many different types of flowers and their scent embellishing the entire greenhouse. “Why are you here at this hour?” His deep voice interrupts my walk. I turn around and see Nash standing wearing a thin white shirt with its sleeves rolled up and black pants. “Brother?” My eyes widen. He comes closer and my waist nudges the glass table behind. His gray empty eyes look into mine. “I am here for a walk.” My lips answer. All of a sudden, his fingers tucks my loose strands behind my ear and moves even closer to my tiny body. “This is our personal space!” His devilish tone whispers inches apart from my face. “Uh…I am so sorry…I should leave…” In the blink of an eye, he grabs my waist and lifts me up onto the glass table like he was carrying a feather. “Brother?” His fingers reach my thighs and he slowly slides them apart to make space for him between my legs. He leans forward and touches the table on either side of my presence. I can feel his heavy breath on my face, neck, and bre*sts. My heart is jumping inside my chest. “You shouldn't wander around alone in this house, sister!” He smirks. His aura is mysterious but attractive at the same time. It is as if a strong magnet is pulling me towards him. “What if someone kills you?” He mutters. My heartbeat stops for a second. “Kill me? Who will kill me?” I sort of panic. Nash always says something suspicious and it makes me wonder if he is giving me a hint or messing with my head. His lips approach my neck and he whispers…“Who knows there might be a dangerous wolf waiting for you to come out of hiding, sister.” His long fingers swiftly engage themselves in my blue hair while his lips touch my cold neck skin. “Brother?” “Shhhhhhhhhhhhhh” It feels like he is about to mark me!! Why??? His fingers slide down from my hair to slightly above my left bre*st. He then brings his lips closer to my ear and pauses for a second. “F*ck! I'm losing my mind!” His husky voice whispers into my ear. My chest is breathing faster than usual. “Sister” “Don't trust anyone in this house!” His eyes slowly look into mine again. “Why? What do you mean?” He frees my body from his grip and takes a few steps back. “A bird wanted to fly higher but she didn't know anything about the outside world and trusted everyone blindly only to be eaten by a group of eagles.” He mutters another mysterious story. “If there's anything I should know then tell me in clear words!” My voice raises. He smiles mischievously. “There are eyes everywhere, sister!” I stay quiet upon hearing that. One thing is for sure…my new family is suspicious and that's what Nash meant behind those words.
