I will protect you!

Liana's pov Jace Maxwell enters my room and locks the doorknob. He is so tall that I am like a tiny rabbit next to him. His eyes notice Cheryl on my bed. “That's your cat?” He twitch a brow. “Uhm…yes!” I answer in a low tone. The corner of his mouth curves and he slowly walks over to Cheryl sleeping on my bed peacefully. He perches on my bed and lifts Cheryl onto his lap. She opens her eyes and looks up at him with curiosity. Cheryl is quite sensitive to strangers but she is silent this time as if Jace Maxwell hypnotized her. His long fingers engage themselves in Cheryl's white fur underneath her neck and she starts snoring in pleasure. “What's her name?” He asks. “Cheryl” Her name rolls down my tongue. “Hmm…means beloved” He puts her back on the bed and rests either of his hands slightly behind him on the black blanket. “So do you like your room, sister?” “Yeah…it's beautiful.” He nods his head slowly. This is quite embarrassing that Jace Maxwell is now my brother and as his new adopted sister I am wearing such a short nightdress in front of him. Way to go for a good first impression. My cleavage, my back, and my thighs…everything is exposed. Why did Poly choose a dress like this when it's winter?! He gets up from the bed and slowly starts taking steps in my direction. My soul is trembling inside and my heart is anxious more than ever. I can feel my adrenaline rush. The distance between us closes to a few mere inches and his strong perfume reaches my nose. His scent is good and addictive, close to the scent of fresh wood. My eyes look up at him and he is already staring at me. Jace Maxwell is probably 6’2 feet whereas I am only 5’5 feet. All my brothers are tall and blessed with good looks. 6’2 is quite big for a 22 year old. “Your blue hair matches your blue eyes, very rare for a wolf.” His husky voice breaks the awkward silence. “Thank you!” “Uh ah…brother, call me brother.” He interrupts I gulp and repeat my words with slight modification as he wanted. “Thank you, brother.” A smile glints on his charming lips. He moves even closer and whiffs my neck at once…my body froze and words stuck in my throat. Stepping back, he tilts his head. “Even your scent is unique!” “Really?” My brows furrow. “You don't know?” He narrows his eyes. *Sigh “My senses are weak compared to other omegas. My nose is not sharp enough to smell anything at a distance and I am not even aware of my own scent.” “That's interesting!” He chuckles. His fingers reach my face and he slowly tucks my loose strands behind my ear. “Your brother will protect you.” His hand slowly drops back to his side. “You should get some sleep now, okay?” My head nods. He approaches the door, unlocks the knob, yet stops. “Sister” “Huh?” His head turns to my side. “Do you have a boyfriend or a man you deeply love?” I am taken aback by his question. “As your big brother I'm worried about the people around you since your real parents were murdered in such a cruel way in their own house.” “You're my responsibility now, right?” His answer clears my doubts and it feels good to know that he's really worried about his new sister. “I don't have a boyfriend” He nods his head and quietly walks out of my room, closing the door behind him. A breath slips free of my lips. His strong presence is too much for someone weak like me. Jace Maxwell… He is the best basketball player in Wind Falls College and everyone envies him for his charming personality. He never picks a fight with anyone but if someone starts a fight with him…there's no end to his rage. He is calm but dangerous. Well, that's what everyone in the college says about him. My ears have heard a lot of rumors related to the Maxwell brothers and after my conversation with Jace Maxwell…the rumors seem to be true. But they're my brothers now!! My feet enter the balcony and a cold breeze brushes through my stark skin. “Mom and Dad” “I am doing good and the Maxwell family is treating me well. Everyone is nice and they don't even care that I'm an omega.” A smile appears on my lips as my eyes look up at the night sky. “With their help, I will find your murderer.” *** Later that night… Jace’s pov There's a hidden room in this castle and the way to the room goes through a secret passage that reveals itself by turning the last book shelf of our big library. Only our family members are aware of this hidden room, not even the maids and guards have any idea about it. The room was built by our great great great grandfather as a secret hideout in the times of war to keep women and children safe from enemy clans. When an Alpha wins a war…the first thing he does is steal the mate of his enemy with or without her consent. Now we're using this room for important discussions and emergency meetings. There are seven king-size black chairs placed in front of the fireplace in a semi-circle position. Even the cushions covering the chair seats are black. There are no windows, only walls painted in deep red color. This room is the only exception in the castle with red walls. A big wooden table attached to the corner left wall and all types of alcohol brands placed on top of the table. There's even a bookshelf attached on the right side of the wall. The books on the shelf are mostly about rituals, sacrifices, and clan's rules. The four of us are now sitting on our black chairs with a glass of cold whiskey in our hands. “So what do you think about her?” Kayden breaks the silence. He is the most impatient one among us. “She's naive and way too innocent.” Words come out of my mouth. *Chuckles “I figured at the dinner table!” Royce mumbles. He is our third brother and has a dragon tattoo on his right arm. His appearance might come off as a careless, rich brat, who doesn't give a f*ck about his surroundings…but in reality, his eyes are observant even for tiny things. He is like an eagle who reads and captures his prey without leaving a single trace behind. “What else did you figure out?” Kayden asks with curious eyes. We always use Joyce's ability to understand our target. He's never wrong with his prediction. “She will be easy to fool.” He smirks and takes a sip of his drink. Even though we're brothers and our bond is stronger than any other siblings in Velverine…this time we're against each other for the ultimate power. Only one member of the secret society can become the Supreme Alpha. The lucky guy my dear sister will choose as her chosen mate. “Did you ask her that question?” Joyce raises his brow. “Hmm…she doesn't have a boyfriend.” I take a sip of my drink. “That's good or we might have to kill an innocent soul.” Kayden jokes. My fingers rest my whiskey glass on top of the fireplace and glare at each one of them with suspicious eyes. “So which one of you killed her parents?” Their eyes widen together. “I thought you did.” Kayden leans forward in his chair and looks me in the eyes, suspicious of my question. “It wasn't me!” I tell the truth. “Royce?” My eyes point at him. “Me neither!” He denies. All three of us shift our gazes to him…who is quietly reading a ritual book for the past half an hour. Our fourth brother. “Nash?" His eyes meet mine, empty as usual. “Did you kill them?” I repeat my question. “It wasn't me!” He closes the book and answers. Nash has always been a little different since childhood. He rarely talks or comes out of his bedroom. His eyes are empty and his face never shows any expression. Even as brothers we find it hard to hold a conversation with him. Sometimes mom and dad fail, too. But there's someone he likes spending time with…his pet crow. Even though Nash is the silent type, he has a wild beast inside him. He never hesitates when it comes to killings as if blood makes him feel good. He opens his book again and focuses back to reading. “If none of us killed her parents then who the f*ck did?” Kayden crosses his fingers on the edge of his knees. “Doesn't matter…” “We just need to keep our sister in control for the time being and sacrifice her when the right time comes.”
