After Cofer came clean about Valin’s existence, they shut him out. Josey spent most of her time tinkering and studying in her lab. They had lunch and dinner at different times than him. They always had an excuse for why they couldn’t go for a walk or why they didn’t feel like talking. They were avoiding him like the plague. He thought his reason for keeping Valin’s living status a secret was a good one. He thought eventually they would move on but Sueli’s pain was too loud.
Valin’s wedding was tomorrow so he contacted Lincoln to make sure their clothing was ready for the trip. After he met with Valin that day after he woke up, he realized Valin had no clue he was a vampire. No clue that he was the one who killed his ex-wife or assisted with helping him kill his father. There was no way Cofer could show up to Valin’s wedding without everyone cowering at his feet and silently judging their king.
That was the last thing Cofer wanted. The point of killing his father in such a way was to make sure no one doubted his innocence. Valin, being the gentle giant he was, said that since Cofer was a new king of a new country on their continent, there was no way he would deny a fellow king access to his wondrous day. He also pointed out that he didn’t want to make an enemy of the Vampire King.
“Wondrous day, uh?” Cofer whispered to himself. The memory of seeing Valin cheerful and living day to day like Josey didn’t exist, hurt on a different level. Before the day Valin died, Cofer didn’t see him as just a friend. He was his wife’s life line. She needed him because she loved him, and he needed him because he loved her. “Damn it. It was either save him and he loses us or just let him die and I lose them.” Cofer sighed the choice was obvious. He and Josey could easily watch and still love Valin from afar. In the end, he had planned on shouldering the burden on his own.
“Your Majesty, preparation for your departure in the morning is completed.” Lincoln mind-linked Cofer. It had only been a little less than 2 months since they saw him but it felt like decades. Human years were tedious. If he was alone, time would’ve flown by, year after year of him flowing with every breeze unchanged. He chose to walk against the current in order to be with his wife. “I don’t regret it one bit.” Cofer said then mentally asked himself who he was trying to convince.
He sat in his office chair staring at the ceiling. He had felt jealousy before but this was maddening. It started the moment he heard the distorted screams of the 2 souls. Both in severe pain over the loss of a man who had stalked them for years. Here he was going through the motions accepting his wife’s destiny as a succubus, and tossed to the side like a nobody. He leaned forward then rubbed his eyes with his fingers. It was all unfair. She still had him.
The day turned into night and Cofer remained alone. He took his shower and prepared for bed. He attempted to link with Josey but she did not respond. He was 1 step away from begging her forgiveness. “Why am I losing you over Valin? You are MY love, MY Queen.” Cofer mind-linked Josey.
“You are not losing me. I love you with all my heart but you know it's been an emotional rollercoaster. Her voice echoes and screeches in my head." Josey explained to Cofer.
“Please come to bed. Don’t make me lie here without you.” He yearned to hold her and kiss her like he used to. Josey did not respond. He laid in the darkness of their shared room wishing for her warmth. He missed Josey and she wasn’t very far from him. “Will I be able to leave her for a month? I am struggling with just being less than a quarter mile from her. “ A tear escaped his eyes then he heard a light screech from the door.
He could smell her. [Josey.] Every hair stood up on his body. He sat up and kicked his feet out of the bed. As she walked, she started taking her clothes off. She took them off slow and with intent. She knew he was watching her. Her hand pressed hard against her skin. She turned her back to him and continued to take her panties off with her blossoming flower in full view.
Before she could lift her leg to slip out of the silk undergarments. Cofer was praying at his altar. He pressed his tongue into her as she bent over, massaging her bottom, tasting her. Josey stayed bent over with her hands pressed against the floor enjoying everything he wanted to give her.
“Why do I feel like I’m losing you?” He muttered. Before Josey could correct his misunderstanding, he pushed himself hard and deep into her. She screamed out his name then lost her balance. He gripped her hips without missing a beat and floated their bodies a couple of inches from the ground. He grabbed for her ponytail that had fallen over her shoulder and gently tugged on it. “Harder Cofer! Pull it harder! f**k me harder!” Josey screamed. The flames in eyes that had flickered out over the past months were ablaze again.
The night was filled with Josey’s screams and Cofer’s yearning not to lose the love of his life. As they laid in bed holding each other. Josey played with Cofer’s ear. “I’m not going anywhere. You are my sun. We have a beautiful child growing inside of me. “ She said then stared at his small lips. Then she pressed her face against his. “My heart beats for you. You remember when we first met, not the time in the closet, but when you bumped into me. I could feel this sinful electricity running from your hand to my own. I was scared that you felt it too. And you were probably disgusted like most men in Nethersigh were. But you smiled, though you ran off, I could tell you were genuine.” Josey kissed him then snuzzled their noses together and pulled him tight into her arms. “I chose you but she chose him. It may take a while to adjust to possibly never having him again but we will work through it. Please be patient. Please don’t think I don’t love every old bone in your body.” Cofer chuckled at Josey's last comment then returned all of her kisses. They played with each other's tongues and bodies, throughout the night.
When the gray rays of light pushed through the curtains, Sueli almost jumped out of bed and Josey before Josey could wake up. Her stinch stung Cofer’s nose almost immediately. “Calm down before you accidentally kill our love.” Cofer said with his eyes still closed to the world.
“I’m ready.” Sueli whispered as her dark fog was absorbed back into its vessel. Cofer slowly opened his eyes and stared at the window, he wasn’t ready. He could already see how she was going to react in his head. He sat up on the edge of the bed and prepared himself for a day full of emotions.
By the time he had gotten out of the shower, Josey was smiling and giddy while looking at the wardrobe Shion prepared for their time at the wedding ball. He carefully watched her with a partial smile on his face and heavy heart.
“Cofer this is going to be our first outing as King and Queen of Nethersigh.” Josey was trying to get Cofer to acknowledge the weight of the situation, outside of seeing the once dead, Valin again.
“You’re right. Let’s have fun.” He then walked over to Josey and kissed her cheek. Since they had to be around humans they did not conjure their outfits but their look exuded darkness. They wanted all that gazed upon them to fear them.
While Josey was not going to be in her succubus form, her feet were not going to touch the ground of Wilshana. They would move on a cloud of darkness like any being from the gates of hell. The thought made Josey giggle. She loved having Sueli as a part of her.
Shion pinned only the top of Josey’s hair up and left the back down. She wanted everyone to see her Queen’s long pitch black curly hair. Josey’s dress for the parade was a form fitting black velvet midi dress. Shion gently placed her event’s crown on her head. Cofer walked back in and asked, “Are you ready, my Lilac?” Josey excitedly turned to him but froze at the sight..
“Wow. You are magnificent!” She whispered. Cofer wore a black suit as usual but his hair was pulled back into a sexy ponytail.
“Your ‘hawk’ has grown long.” Josey said jokingly.
“I know. Do you like it? Should I cut it? I should cut it shorter.” Cofer turned to get his haircut..
“NO! I like it. Come here.”
Cofer walked over to Josey. She rubbed her hand over his crowned skull tattoo then gently kissed him. He smelled sweet like fresh cut mango. Before Josey could take a bite. Cofer reminded her they were in a somewhat of a rush. Even though they were taking the portal they did not want to miss Valin passing the visiting royalty area.
Josey understood. Sueli was doing cartwheels in her head, impatient about seeing him. It warmed her heart for her succubus to be so happy but she knew it wouldn’t last long. If he had forgotten them, then that unconditional, unwavering love he showered them with would be channeled towards his bride.
Josey wrapped her arm within Cofers and he led her to their entrance portal. Shion and Lincoln would go directly to their living quarters at the guest palace. As the portal opened, Josey and Cofer took deep breaths and stepped full stride into their newest nightmare.
