Cofer left his office right after his meeting, trailing behind Lincoln who was heading to Cofer’s room to gather some multipurpose clothing and his hiking bag.
“I love her so much, Lincoln. What if she hates me for lying to her?” Lincoln listened, he knew the question was rhetorical. “What if I kept her chained up in the dungeon? Wouldn’t that solve everything? “Cofer quietly chuckled.
“Lincoln, Sueli loves Valin like I love Josey. She could easily take Josey from me, just out of spite. I’m so angry with her. She’s corrupting my heart, my Josey. I realize I can’t fix this and I can’t tolerate watching it. Please tell me it's okay to take a break from this madness. Lincoln, you have been by my side so long. If you tell me that I should send someone else and then spend my time chasing my wife as she chases another King, I will listen.” Cofer felt the coldness of his tears ad the repetitive breaking of his artificially beating heart.
Lincoln paused and slowly turned to him. He had never seen his king in such a state. He had been walking on eggshells for the past two months. Now Cofer was allowing him to speak freely.
“Let’s step into your room. I don’t want to draw any unnecessary attention to you.”
They continued walking in silence to the room. Cofer walked with his head hanging low and Lincoln studied the ceiling, thinking about every word that he was going to say.
As soon as they entered his room, Lincoln continued towards the closet and Cofer sat on the bed.
“Sire, it is very nice to see you so deeply in love, married, and expecting a baby. Josey is perfect for you but she is not alone, correct? You were aware that a Sambofahn requires a human lover?”
“Get to the point real quick.” Cofer growled.
“Why did you lie to her? “ Lincoln quickly asked.
“At the time it was just easier to tell her that since she was pregnant with his human baby, she would still maintain her human soul.” Cofer said quietly.
Lincoln cleared his throat. He knew Cofer was trying to keep Josey to himself, he had said it several times. “What’s the truth?”
Cofer laid back on the bed and took a deep breath, “Even though he lost his memories,
subconsciously a piece of Josey still exists in his heart. That’s why she didn’t die.”
“And that’s the real reason you are leaving her in another kingdom with another King? Got it.”
“I despise the fact that she needs him to live. I should be all she needs.” Cofer said then covered his face.
“Yes you should step away. Take a breather. While you may have understood what you were getting into physically, since you have never been in a relationship it's wearing you down mentally.” Lincoln said as he folded a couple of tank tops and shorts.
“Thanks Lincoln.” No matter how much sense it made for Cofer to leave. The guilt he felt from running away from his problems was immense.
Cofer continued to stare at the ceiling. He wanted to stare at the stars. He wanted to see the face they made when they were truly happy.
“Sire, your bag is ready. Shall I gather the gargoyles?”
“Yes, do that, Lincoln. I am going to change and I will be down in 10 minutes.” Cofer stated.
----
As Josey floated through the castle, many eyes tried to divert themselves from her. Solely out of fear of facing the vampire king or becoming one of the souls that guided her body. Their fear brought Sueli and Josey joy. She looked around checking the gaps she knew existed in their security. The thought of working on such a large project made her anxious to meet her team.
Her bodyguards were quiet and stealthy. She kept forgetting they were walking behind her. Liv and Adiv were beautiful men. Other than her father, they were the tallest men she had ever seen. They were lanky and fully toned. Their eyes could hypnotize the most popular of women. She found herself a little aroused by their obsessive need to protect her at all costs. If she hadn’t met Cofer or Valin, she would be married to one of these sexually uninhibited brown men. “I bet the s*x is mind-blowingly crazy, but it couldn’t compare how Cofer ravages me.” She thought to herself.
Josey stopped in her tracks. Her mouth sat open, her heart beat increased. “Cofer?” She whispered. She played back the night before and her early morning time with Cofer in her head. There was something different about it. She was so wrapped up in losing Valin and making this plan to make him fall back in love with her while denying a plan existed, that she completely ignored the feelings that Cofer was sharing with her. She wanted to cry.
“Liv..Adiv…Let’s head back to my room. I need to go back to Nethersigh.” She said with a sense of urgency. The sun was already starting its descent for the evening and she had not seen or spoken to her king. “This is what happens when you start your day at noon!” She muttered angrily to herself. Josey had always believed that she could feel Cofer’s thoughts and feelings when he touched her. The images of his intense love for her would flow through her mind and body. As she pushed her guiding souls in the direction of the guest hall, tears started to accumulate in her eyes.
The twins opened the doors to their suite and Josey summoned the portal and took her leave. She stood in their room. The chill in the air and his scent welcomed her. She rubbed her hands across the top of the bedding as she thought back to the previous night. She had her legs entwined in Cofer’s legs. He had stopped moving . She was cumming hard. She pushed herself fast and furiously on his length, unable to open her eyes as the feeling of his hard, pulsating length, teased and bullied her walls.
His breath tickled her cheeks as he firmly pressed himself deeper inside of her shaking body and a searing heat enveloped her. Every time they made love was like a new adventure. Even if they did the same thing, the feelings they shared were always growing and intermingling. Among the searing heat, was a tinge of violent pain, like someone had ripped a small piece of her heart out of her chest. Then he kissed her. Before she could reconcile or question the pain, he kissed her deeper. He engulfed her lips while gently and thoroughly penetrating her most sensitive places.
It was like he was trying to keep their souls forever connected but there was an obstacle. “You are still lying to me, Cofer.” She whispered then made her way to his office. Half way there she ran into her grandfather, General Evansly De La Croix. He bowed and said his pleasantries but he avoided eye contact with her. Although he was her grandfather, they had little to no connection, so she wasn’t expecting a hug or anything. “Why are you avoiding making eye contact with me? What’s wrong?” Josey asked while staring deep into his eyes.
Before he could answer, the answer was written all over his face. “Where is Cofer?”
The general took a deep breath and said, “He left some time ago, my Queen.”
Josey turned from him and increased her pace. She mind-linked with Lincoln to meet her in Cofer’s office. Lincoln was already there. When she walked through the door, he stood next to the sofa. He invited her to take a seat. “Where is Cofer?”
“My Queen, I will be relaying his message, starting now. ‘My love, I am but an inadequate man trying to love a more than capable woman. There are errands I need to run, things I need to rethink. I will be back in 2 to 3 months. Good bye. Please don’t forget that I love you more than the existence of time and life..’ End message. Do you have any questions, my Queen?”
Josey stood up. “An inadequate man? Who does he take me for?” She mumbled. She tried to mind-link with Cofer but was unable to. “f**k! I told him I was going to give up on Valin!”
“But are you really?” Lincoln interrupted her personal rant.
She looked at him, angry that he questioned her loyalty to her King. “What?”
“If I may be so bold, my Queen. This isn’t a test. You can not deny the heart, what the heart wants.”
Josey knew she was lying. She had not been honest with him. She shook her head left to right, trying to find a response suitable for a valid accusation. “Damn it. I felt his sorrow and I ignored it. Now he’s gone.” Josey whispered then started to cry. She stood up and quickly made her way back to their bedroom. She ran into the room and slammed the door behind her. She had been in denial for some time. Last night wasn’t the first time she felt Cofer’s despair. “I’m a horrible wife.” She yelled and then laid in their bed, reminiscing about the night before. He had left an impression of very graphic s****l images all over her body. [This had always been your plan….]
