I watched Zach open the door to let his brothers in, but I lowered my head, not feeling ready to face Sam. Caleb hadn't done anything, but I didn't feel comfortable with him yet. The three brothers sat down on the couch in the room.
Sam: I'm sorry sweetie, I shouldn't have yelled at you
I could feel his gaze on me, but I didn't look up.
Cassy: Why... Why did you react like that?
I spoke in a small voice broken by sobs.
Sam: My Angel, I don't want you to fight, it's beyond my strength, to imagine that you... that you fight... I can't... Our mother lost her life in a fight and my father never recovered. I don't want to lose you Baby...
I raised my head to look at him, his eyes were full of water and tears were sliding gently down his cheeks.
Cassy: Sam, I don't want to fight and if you had listened to me instead of panicking, we wouldn't be here
Caleb: I agree with Sam, my love, but if you don't want to fight, why do you want to be trained?
I sighed and looked at Zach. He gave me an encouraging smile.
Cassy: I can't stand feeling weak and defenseless anymore... even if there will always be someone near me, I want to know that I can defend myself. I need it for me, to heal from my fears... and I want to be strong for the pack, to help the weakest.
I saw Sam turn pale at my confession.
Sam: My Angel, I am so, so sorry. Of course, I will train you.
Cassy: Actually... Zach has already agreed...
Zach: My Luna, how about this, when you are ready, fitter and stronger, we will all train you?
I looked at all three of them.
Cassy: Yeah sure
Zach: Alright, now Sam, Caleb, I want your word that now, you're going to take the time to listen to what Cassy has to say before you panic. She's been through enough trauma as it is without adding to it.
Caleb: I didn't...
Zach: I know you didn't do anything, Caleb, but you agreed with Sam.
Caleb: Okay Zach, I promise my Love
Sam: I promise my Angel
Zach: Okay now have a nice day, Caleb and I will leave you
Zach and Caleb left the room, leaving me alone with Sam. Even though he apologized, I felt fearful. I knew I had to get over it and I understood his reasons, but a part of me was afraid.
Sam: Do you want me to take you outside my Angel?
Cassy: I don't know Sam.....
POV Sam
I could see that my Angel was afraid of me, Goddess, I had been so stupid, how can I fix things now? I slowly approached her and whispered to her.
Sam: My Angel, I don't have enough words to tell you how sorry I am, I acted like an i***t, but I promise you that it won't happen again, okay?
She gently nodded
Sam: So, do you want us to go back outside?
Cassy: Actually Sam, do you think I could have something to eat?
Sam: Sure, my Angel, I want a few things in particular?
She looked at me without understanding.
Sam: What do you want to eat, my Angel?
She licked her lips and spoke
Cassy: Actually, I don't know. In my cell, they only gave me dry bread and soup.
I swallowed my saliva with difficulty at her revelation. It was inhumane treatment. How could she have survived?
Sam: Okay, I'll order you a few things and how about we go eat them outside?
I saw her face light up and felt a great joy invade me.
Cassy: Is that possible?
Sam: Sure, my angel
I took my angel to the fountain, having asked for a meal to be brought to us. I asked the cook at the pack house to bring us beef steaks with buttered mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus. Sincerely. I hoped she would enjoy the meal. I helped her sit on the bench and took a seat across from her. I would observe her puzzled reaction to her plate and the utensils that had been placed next to it. She awkwardly took them and looked at her plate again puzzled. I frowned at the thought, then a doubt took place in my mind.
Sam: My Angel, have you ever used these utensils?
Cassy: I...
I tilted my head to find her gaze and waited slowly.
Cassy: Before... I'm locked up...
Sam: Look
Slowly, I showed her how to hold the cutlery, cut her food. She took a first bite of meat and I saw tears slide gently down her cheeks.
Sam: My Angel, if you want to talk, I'm here, you know
She looked at me with a frown so softly, I told her
Sam: You're crying my Angel
She wiped her cheeks and looked at me shyly.
Cassy: It's just that it's so good...
I smiled at her, amused. My Wolf was in heaven, his mate was there and she loved the meal. We ate slowly in a comfortable silence.
Cassy's POV
The meal was wonderful. I felt relaxed, the sun warming me gently, creating a bliss in me.
Cassy: When I was little, I was alone. I don't remember my parents. I don't know what happened to them. I was in an orphanage. But all the others... they hit me, made me fall, yelled things at me... Only Avery was nice to me. They took her to the orphanage later and didn't know that Alpha Blake had forbidden all kindness towards him. We went to a small river and those were happy moments for me. Then Alpha Blake found out that Avery was nice to me and made her disappear from my life by telling me that he had killed her for daring to be my friend. He locked me in a dungeon, with only soup and a piece of bread a day... I don't know how long I was there before he asked me to go to the torture room... the first time, he whipped me with a silver strap... he had warned me that if I screamed, cried or lost consciousness during the session, he would lock me up. I did all three...
I felt the tears slide down my cheeks. I was aware of Sam getting up and sitting next to me. Gently, he lifted me onto his lap.
Sam: My Angel, I know you may not be ready for me to take you like this, but my Wolf is crazy with grief for you and needs to do it...
I rested my forehead on the crook of his neck and placed a hand on his heart that was beating strong and regular.
Cassy: I woke up for the first time in a trunk barely big enough for me and I stayed there for a long time, too long. When I was not able to react... he started cutting me in different places. Always with the same consequences. But this time I was locked in a bigger box where I was hanging by my arms, barely able to touch the ground with my feet. The walls of the box were very close to me and full of sharp metal pieces. When the cuts were no longer enough, he started hitting the blade of the knife and marking me... my body is covered in scars Sam.… it's awful.
I felt him gently kiss my forehead and his arms tighten around me.
Sam: Cassy, my Angel, I don't even dare to imagine what you've been through, but for me, for my brothers too, you are our world now and your scars, they are proof of your courage. Despite their origins, you can be proud of your battle scars, because you survived. I promise you one thing, my Angel. One day, I will embrace and worship each one of your marks, and I am certain that my brothers will too.
Cassy: The day Beta Jake found me, I heard two guards talking, they were talking about Alpha Blake's plans for the evening. I closed my eyes, praying for a miracle. I remember the small river where I went with Avery. I don't know how I did it, but when I opened my eyes, I was there. So, I crossed the river and went into the woods before passing out. The rest you know.
