2. Mate

The dread I feel increase as I head to the pack house, my mom must have used her wolf form to get there already. I nodded at a few that waved at me and trudged forward..

I don't even want to know how my wolf would turn out, many squeal about it but not me, it's a competition for me.

Dozens of us moved to the halls for the seminars. Many of them would be happy to become the pack's warrior.

Some stepped aside for me to walk past into the hall.

My parents were the pack's Beta so it's not surprising that others will be nice to me just to gain favours.

"Stay in front of the crowd,"

I sighed in frustration as mom's voice rang through my mind. I don't even want to go to the seminar or the banquet.

It meant a lot for me not to go but I know mom, she won't let me be. After she used her powers on me, I can only expect the worst.

I entered the hall and the whispering grew, all must be excited about learning about their new abilities, not me.

A part of me secretly hopes that I'm not special, mom would leave be or my brother Ray who loves the responsibility so much would just magically be powerful but reality sunk in as Alpha Theo walked in.

The hall went pin dropped silent and all movement ceased. The Alpha looked powerful and dangerous as always. His well tailored shirt show off his ripped muscles.

He raised a hand and his Luna stepped beside him along with my parents.

His eyes moved from each one of the attendees and stayed for a second or more before they landed on me.

His pair of silver orbs, my psychic abilities kicked in and a bile rose from the pit of my stomach to my mouth, bloody.

I snapped out of my daze to realize that his eyes had wandered away from me. Dread washed down my body, the alpha was going to die, soon.

"What the hell is wrong with you."Mom's voice rang in my head.

I snapped my gaze forward to see my mom glaring daggers at me. My head sunk low and I fidget with my fingers as her stare still burn at the front of my head.

"You all know why you have been gathered here today,"Alpha Theo asked.

The hall was silent, head bowed.

"You don't have to be scared, I'm not only your Alpha today but your father, here to help you out with your powers."He said.

I wanted to roll my eyes, if only that was true but he was lying. Your powers might make you the Alpha's favorite or his enemy and if you were not good enough, the pack turns you into a punching bag like they do with some Omegas.

"Yes Alpha,"We all chorus.

"Tomorrow is the full moon, when the moon is at his peek, all of you will transform and your wolf will make your abilities known."He said.

A tiny murmuring broke out and I can see happiness on all of their faces, those ready to please the alpha.

"Hey Rose,"A brunette whispered beside me.

"Hi,"I replied.

"Your brother have been ignoring me for weeks now and I don't know why,"She said.

I glanced at her and back at my mom, she wouldn't be pleased if she saw me talking while the seminar is going on.

"Does it matter if he ignores you Ava,"I asked.

Ava Stone is the pack's warrior's daughter, long brown hair, grey eyes and perfect set of teeth.

She has been training since she was a child and is the best female fighter in the pack.

"I guess he didn't tell anyone about it."She muttered but I could still hear her.

"Tell what?"I asked.

Ray didn't talk to me anymore but that doesn't mean I don't still care about him. He's still my brother.

I feel a pair of eyes on me and I keep quiet. My mom must have noticed Ava and I were talking.

".. Since it's something a lot of us have been through already, your family will be there for you, guide you through the pain."

I must have missed out on a few words. His gaze swept over us,"Do you have any questions."

I hoped no one will speak us and allow this agonizing moment to be over. The aura was oppressing and suffocating.

The pack could be in trouble. The neighboring pack have rumors circulating about them. They were taking in rogues.

"Since you don't have any questions, I would just let,"

Just as we were about to be dispersed, a young shaggy looking guy walk in looking dishevelled.

He bowed to the Alpha and both stood motionless. They were communicating through the mindlink.

The Alpha bowed his head and the Luna wrapped her arms around herself.

Something bad had happened. Their aura grew dreadful.

Ava hit my shoulder and I turned to her,"I think that they had been another rogue attack,"

I turned to the stage, my parents and the Alpha were still there, probably talking through the mindlink.

"All the measures and ideas brought out seems to be known by the rogues already."She continued.

Her parents were the pack warrior so it isn't surprising she has access to the most juicy news in the pack. My parents barely talk to us about anything.

"Are you saying there's a traitor in the pack,"I whispered, not like it made any difference.

Ava raised her brow in exasperation and winked, "Not just the pack but in the board of trustee and the warriors but I heard that it has been narrowed down to just the board."She said with a shrug.

I feel shaken by the revelation. The board of trustee was the core of the pack, the decision making panel consisting of the Alpha and his Luna, the Beta and that is my dad and mom, The Gamma, pack warriors and two other elderlies.

"That's serious,"I nodded.

"Are you excited about getting your wolf and knowing about your powers, I would love to get my mom's abilities."She sighed.

I looked forward. The Alpha smiled a bit at his Luna and turned to us. "Since you are all here, I want you all to know that the pack isn't safe as it used to be, three of our warriors have been killed by rogues last night."

Loud gasps broke out and a few people started crying.

"I'm sorry for your loss but there's nothing that we can do but to move forward and hope.."

A loud shrill cry broke and my ear drum almost burst in pain at the intensity of the sound.

"Cool.."Ava gasped.

Cool. I had a hard time dealing with the pain and she thinks it's cool.

"I guess a lot of your abilities are beginning to break forth before the full moon anyway."The Alpha said.

A jet black hair girl pant behind me after making the terrible yet painful sound.

Ava jerks my arms,"Although it's a pretty cool abilities, some consider it weak.''She winked.

Those some would include my parents. Ray had the same coming at him. I don't even know what abilities he got or how his wolf looks.

"You may all leave now,"The Alpha added.

We all bowed and made our way out of the pack hall. Ava clung her arms around mine and we struggled out of the hall.

She kept glancing at me, hesitant about saying her mind. I didn't have any friends but I didn't have enemies. Ava used to hang out with me and my brother but that stopped two years ago.

She spent more time in the training ground than anywhere else.

She held my arms as we stepped out of the pack house.

I raised a brow at her and she smiled warmly.

"Did you get any cool abilities yet."She asked with an expectant look.

My mind wandered to the few times that I have controlled birds. I know how weird it sounds.

I discovered it once after my mom shouted on me and threw out my shirt. I was really sad and stood staring out of the window and down at my shirt.

I felt a rush of adrenaline and I could see through a birds eyes. I needed the clothes and a second barely passed when a owl grabbed my shirt with it's beak and brought it up to me.

I was terrified. I have never told anyone.

"Rose, are you okay.."Ava asked.

I nodded.

"You just zoned out on me,"

I shook my head, "I'm sorry, I was distracted."

We both seem to be the only ones left, everyone else were gone.

"Uhm have you..."

I snapped at her, "Can you stop stalking and all of that, what do you want to ask??"

Ava rubbed her palms on her jeans and then looked round. "Okay uhm, it's about your brother."

My forehead creased in confusion. "What did my brother do."

"He ran away from me this morning."

I chuckled, "Do you have a crush on him."

She nodded, "I mean not like that,"She shook her head.

I raised a brow at her. Ray is good looking with blonde hair and killer dimples and a dope gray eyes.

"It's just a crush, you will get over it."I said and tried walking off but she held onto my arms.

She swallowed nothing,"He called me his mate and just ran off.."She said.

"What??"My mouth fell open.

Ava face fell. "Is it that bad, am I that bad for him."

I shook my head.

"He must have known for a long time."
