1. The Beginning
The bell next to the city hall kept ringing as I laid in bed drowning in my own thoughts. I can't control the fast tempo my heart is taking all of a sudden.
I dreaded the bells somehow. A night to the full moon, the bells are rung and those who just turned sixteen are sent to the city halls to be groomed for the big events, the full moon, where you get your wolf and know your abilities.
I was supposed to be excited but I couldn't be, last two years after my older brother, Ray had his wolf, my parents were disappointed. He didn't have a strong wolf and hence the responsibility fell on me and I hated it.
My father didn't do so well in hiding his disappointed and my brother slowly hated me or so I believe. He doesn't tell it but he shows it pretty well. He goes out of his way to make me uncomfortable but I never asked for any of this.
We never had the normal brother-sister relationship and we have never talked about it, my parents act like nothing is different allowing Ray and I to drift apart.
I get out of the bed and walk to the window and pull the edge of the curtains slowly and peek out on the streets. The Silver Pack, where I've been my whole life and probably where I'll also die just like clockwork, I have no control over my life.
We had to serve, stand by the pack, fight for the pack. I didn't want any of this. I just wanted a normal nice life.
I pull open the windows and my head tick as the metal scraped together. I breathe in the fresh morning air, my nerves ticked and I feel connected to every single sound out there.
I have weird abilities too. I've never told anyone about it too, it isn't much of an ability. I know how disappointed my mom would be if she realized that I control birds.
"You should be thinking of something better this than looking at an empty street."
I'm startled by the sudden noise and I stumbled away from the window. I rubbed my hand on my dress and looked away from my mother's penetrating gaze.
"You should get ready for the seminar, I don't want you slacking off, our legacy rests on you after your brother disappointed us."
I nodded and she was gone. I sighed. I would never get used to her powers. She can teleport over short distances. It sounds cool but it's pretty creepy most times.
I close the window and walk to my closet, I can hear my mom whispering down the hallway.
"The Alpha's son is coming back on the night of the full moon,"My mom whispered.
"A celebration would be held after the full moon."My dad whispered back.
"I overheard the Alpha and his Luna talking,"My mother continued. "His son might have to take a Luna from the pack."
I raid my closet and pulled out a black halter top and a black ripped jeans. The Alpha's son, Leo left the pack few years back to train in the mountains with some old master.
I might have five that time he left, he was only ten and now, it has been 11 years and now he's coming back and then more pressure from my parents, a worthy Beta beside the Alpha.
I quickly took a shower and changed into the clothes I picked out and headed out. My brother, Ray was just climbing up the stairs as I stepped out. He snubbed me and climbed past me without saying a word even after I muttered a greeting.
He became like this after he got his wolf and my parent rub his weaknesses all over him. My mother came from a long line of Alphas and my dad was a Beta. So I understand they might have expected more but their behavior destroyed Ray's and I relationship.
I got to the end of the stairs and made my way to the door, the door is pushed open and I paused as my mom walked in.
Her eyes dropped off my face and rakes painfully slow down my outfit and I could almost feel them burn on my skin.
I inhaled a sharp breath as her eyes meet mine and I quickly look away.
"What do you think you are wearing Rose. You are not twelve anyone and I expect nothing but the best from you."She spats out with her index finger pointed at me.
I shift in discomfort but nodded. It has always been like this anywhere. I could never do anything right in her eyes.
"Get out of those rags and find a dress, you will be addressed by the Alpha, I don't want you embarrassing me."With one last glare, she walked past me and headed up the stairs.
I bite down the frustration, looked up at her and headed back to my room.
I pulled out a dress and changed. I inhaled before walking back to the door.
I had a peach dress with wolf imprints on, my mom bought it and I don't have to be told, this is what she wants me to wear. I'll easily stand out in the weirdest way.
I meet my mother also climbing down the stairs in a leather pants and black jacket. I'm envious of how beautiful she still looks even after two children.
"That's a bit better, you looked like a lost soul the first time."
I don't know if I'm supposed to smile at her sarcastic remark or just keep mute.
"The Alpha's son will be here after the full moon,"She began and I hurried down the stairs beside her and she continued,"He's here to take control of the pack but he has to take a Luna if he doesn't find his mate in the pack."
As I listen to her words, I don't know how it concerns me in any way. I have never heard of wolves not finding their mates, not like I listen anyway.
I have never thought about having a mate, growing up in a home like mine, it's pretty tiring to fantasize about things like that.
I stumbled into a hard block snapping me out of my daze, I barely stumbled back on my feet when a slap landed crisply across my cheeks.
"Ouch,"I whimpered as my face felt hot and tears rushed to my eyes.
"You are no more a child Rose, the responsibility of the pack will soon fall on your shoulder."She pointed out angrily.
I bowed my head hiding the tears that slipped out of my eyes.
"Weak,"She spats out in disgust.
For a moment I wished to forget everything, her condescending glance, her hateful glare and all but I couldn't.
The clicking of her heels brought me back to reality and I quickly followed behind her.
I could feel the anger radiating off of her. Sometimes I wonder how my mom and dad even got together anyway.
"Rose,"
My eyes snapped up at my mom had stopped walking in front of me with her hands clutched to the back.
Her face remained expressionless as she stared at me.
"Mom,''I stopped and waited for her to continue.
"The Alpha's son will be here after the full moon and a banquet, everyone is invited to the banquet."She added in a crisp tone, I glanced at her and quickly looked away when I found her eyes on mine.
Leo was the aloof kid, he shouldn't have a problem with the banquet, I don't know why my mom keeps making it a big deal.
"You might not know but Alpha Theo, Leo's father is weak, he was poisoned.."
"What.."I gasped. A weak Alpha is very bad for the pack, especially if other packs know about it, they might end up attacking the pack.
"The Pack needs a strong Luna too, I went to a talisman last week and he told me that you are destined for something great, you will lead our pack to new heights."
I shiver and look slowly up at my mother, "We are from a line of Beta's, mother, you shouldn't have gone this far."
I shivered as she glance at me again. "Pathetic, I won't die without a legacy,"
"I'll just head to the seminar now."
"Rose, you are beautiful, even if you have to seduce the Alpha's son, you have to be the chosen Luna."
"Mother, can you even hear yourself."I balled my fist at my side and stared at her intently.
She rolled her eyes and I felt my neck clutch, I couldn't breathe. I opened my mouth to speak but I couldn't form any words.
"You don't get to disrespect me, young lady or next time, you will lose your tongue permanently."
I clutched at my throat trying to ease my pain as tears rushed to my eyes. My mother used her powers on me.
She turned and walked out of the door and I fell heavily on the floor panting as I breathe in as much air as possible.
"Get out of the house now,"Her voice echoed in my head.
I clutched my throat and struggled to my feet.
The discomfort was still there, my mother's powers were stronger than Dad's. She came from a line of Alpha's.
She has never used her powers on me before, I must have angered her.
I walked out and followed her to the pack house.
