CHAPTER 7
ALYSSA EDWARDS
When I woke up, I had been tucked into this enormous bed and the ceiling above me was not that familiar. Our house ceiling did not have gold-drawn flowers in them. Neither did the ceiling have a large chandelier in the middle of it.
I scooped myself into a sitting position and glanced at the room I was in. Nothing looked familiar. The bedroom was so huge that I felt like an ant in here.
Where was I?
I tried to remember what happened last night and then remembered that I had cried in that Ferrari guy's arms and felt myself faint.
I quickly threw my clothes a look and found out that I was still wearing my jeans and top but where was I?
Did Daniel bring me to his house? Where was he and no matter where I was, I had to go see my brother. How did the surgery go?
With that, I threw myself out of the bed, and just in time, I noticed something moving in the red couch on the side of the room. On the couch laid a very unconscious Daniel whose dyed blonde hair had covered his whole face and made him recognizable but the moment my bare feet hit the ground, he scurried to awake.
"What am I doing in your house? In here?" I asked and he sat up, threw his legs off the couch, and rubbed his eyes sleepily.
"Calm down, will you? It's still early. Look, you fainted in my arms and I didn't know your house and so I brought you here."
I nodded. That made sense. Yesterday was a lot for me.
"And you had to sleep in here?"
He ruffled his hair and c****d his head at me. "This is my house and you are a guest. You don't expect me to leave you here all alone do you?"
I looked away from his probing eyes.
"Fine. I have to get to the hospital. I need to go see my brother."
That made Daniel rise to his feet. "Right. I–I kind of need a favor from you. Look, if you do this for me. Your car debt and your brother's debt will be considered paid. I promise."
My eyes widened and I stepped back in fright. "I am not sleeping with you."
He laughed. "No, no. Not that."
I frowned. "Then what could cancel out such a great debt if it's not about my body?"
I chuckled. "You think your body is worth that much?" he teased and I was about to yell at him when he shook his head and held his hand up. "Listen, listen. I want you to pretend that you actually slept with me here."
I gasped. "What?"
He walked closer and I took a few steps back.
"Look. It's that easy okay? If you help me with this issue, consider your debt paid. Just pretend to be my one-night stand and we will call it even."
I thought about this. He looked serious and the offer was enticing.
"Just that?"
"And when the situation demands it, I might call you up a few times but it would only be for show. Nothing is going to happen between us. You just have to make my parents believe. That's it."
"Why–I hope you don't mind asking but–"
Daniel only smiled and walked to the mirror on the left. "Are you ready to pretend with me? My parents are a bit rude but..."
I shook my head. "I remember clearly what your family did to me at the restaurant the other time, Daniel. You don't need to tell me twice."
He turned to me and nodded. "Do you want to change or something?"
I frowned and crossed my arms over my chest.
"No, I mean. They need to find you in my shirt or something."
I shook my head. "I am not wearing your shirt."
"Do you know how much that Ferrari costs?"
Suddenly, the door creaked open and a woman stepped in with a surprised look on her face when she saw me. "Who the hell is this one?"
"Mom?" Daniel called, stepping between the woman and me.
"Do I know her?"
I could see Daniel smiling at that. "Yes, you do. The masala girl, mom."
I frowned. What was Daniel doing?
"Young lady, do not waste your time on my son and go study. You are too young to be living such a life."
I stepped out of Daniel's shade and shook my head. "I don't think you understand that..."
Daniel threw his arms around my waist and hugged me from behind, startling me. "She is going to become your daughter-in-law, mom. Do you like her?"
"Daniel?"
"If you and dad do not give me the oil company, I am marrying Alyssa here."
The woman gasped and cleared her throat.
So Daniel was just using me for something like this? I felt so degraded that I didn't even notice when the woman left the room.
Daniel turned to me and smiled. "Please bear with me for a few more hours, okay?"
