“We will land in 30 minutes,” the pilot announces.
Margaret rouses from her nap and looks outside. The daunting demands of her position, the President’s failing health, and the expectations of the upcoming elections all overshadow her magical week with her lover. She grimaces as she thinks of what lies ahead. Margaret fingers the ring Ivan gave her, and her mind transports back to the promises they made. I must stay strong.
The pilot starts his descent, and Margaret watches as D.C. comes into sight.
